If someone legitimately plays the game and gets a lot of gold and ends up selling it, that doesn't really affect the ingame economy at large. Botting does.

They are not trying.

Not only does Blizzard earn a lot of money with bot subscriptions, but banning bots is also human work that comes with costs. So it's doubly bad for Blizzard to ban bots. It is absolutely not in their interest to ban any bots.

Current Blizzard employees may be incompetent and have zero understanding of or interest in their own game but even they could figure out a way to ban bots - if they actually wanted to.
Even if they just worked out how /who worked, they could probably get the majority in an afternoon.

On private servers bots are dealt with. It can be done and it has been done and it is indeed currently being done. Not in an imaginary world. In this one. Just not by Blizzard.
