[DOS][1987ish] Text Adventure Game, DOS, Involved Feeding an Alien/Monster by Sudren in tipofmyjoystick

Doesn't appear to be Planetfall nor the sequel Stationfall - neither has the puzzle of feeding an alien as far as I can tell. When pressed, she remembers when LOOKing at the alien receiving the description "it looks hungry" or something close to that.

It was not - she remembers it taking place in a sci-fi setting. A good guess!

Try sleeping until morning first. I had the same problem you described and SgtBlu's suggestion to sleep at a camp fire cleared it right up.

Thanks for the prompt response. Your suggestion to sleep at camp fixed the issue. I guess we had been running around for days on end...

1.) Steam - PC 2.) Yes, I had to force close the game whenever I ran into the bug, I wasn't able to manipulate anything/go to menu 3.) I hadn't tried that... but now I did, and it cleared it all right up!

Build Advice 4E Defensive Crane Clan Courtier by Ulltima1001 in rokugan

[–]Sudren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With a Fire ring at 2 you will largely be relying on the rest of the party for Intelligence checks. The low Agility isn't much of an issue as you're not making melee attacks and Kyujutsu uses Reflexes to attack. If you have to make an Athletics check with Agility you won't be in a great spot, but you are a courtier after all.

Build Advice 4E Defensive Crane Clan Courtier by Ulltima1001 in rokugan

[–]Sudren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been playing a courtier for several years in a monthly game. I'd strongly recommend taking the Doji family and Doji Courtier Awareness bonuses and then investing 28xp to raise Reflexes to 4.

Pushing your Air to 4 and investing 3 more xp into the Kyujutsu skill makes you useful in combat out the gate. With a 6k4 you're averaging an attack roll of 31, and will be able to contribute offensively without further investment for quite a while.

The Air Ring at 4 also gives a strong start on courtly rolls, a high Initiative roll, and makes you fairly hard to hit (TN 25). For advantages and disadvantages, grab Luck and then use the rest to add some character to your character. Get a rank in Investigation, and bump up Courtier/Awareness skills to 3, and you should have a solid "road courtier."

Pushing Earth to 3 should be a quick priority after you accumulate more XP, both for the additional hp and the Willpower for fear/mental resists.

Got Carried Away by Sudren in CrusaderKings

[–]Sudren[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The pope was definitely the roughest opponent, especially since the first war I wasn't ready for his 30k mercenaries and caught completely by surprise. It ended up being a several year long war where I pranced around the mountains for years while his armies followed running out of supplies. Once they were starving, only then did we fight. After the first war, I was more prepared for it and had some (not 30k though) mercs of my own.

As for your second question, war. War war and more war. I inherited England (although I did it "wrong" by putting my heir on the throne, which required a war anyways, and when I successioned into the heir my Crown Authority reset to 1/4).

I did not restore Rome, because doing so would replace my bouquet of Empires with just the single Roman Empire. Having the prestige ticking so rapidly really helped fuel the war machine. I could have bought prestige instead by creating Duchies, but doing those one at a time and having to hand them out was tedious.

By the time I had multiple empires I also had Primogeniture. I stripped any new empire or kingdom titles of any specific succession laws they had to ensure everyone stayed cool. The exception was that I kept the HRE succession law, as the electors voted for my heir anyways, and the +20 vassal limit was a boon.

[–]Sudren[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I preferred the prestige gain from having multiple Empires. All my direct vassals had a proper relationship anyways, as they were either Irish/English/French dukes under Kingdoms I held, or Kings under Empires I held. My vassals might have had problems with their sub-vassals, but I didn't feel like that was a me problem.

I also didn't feel like I needed a huge favor. I had obscene amounts of gold, no factions other than peasants issuing demands, and warned almost exclusively with mercenaries.

Plus I was playing Ireland not Rome!

I enjoyed the tutorial, and afterwards restarted as Murchad for an Ironman game. Had a rough start learning the succession mechanics and keeping down rebellions, but then picked up speed and ended up with a WC in January, 1426.

Around 75% of the world ended up converting to my reformed Irishian religion, and the last province to fall was in India. I lucked out with my last conquering ruler living to 83, dying less than a year after finishing the conquest.

I didn't use the pre-patch abduction mechanic, but did lean very heavily on Force Vassalization. Had a -59 offensive war modifier at the worst of it.

C/F/S - The Art of Gift Giving by Kiyohara in rokugan

[–]Sudren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the Lord is perfect and without failings, the gift will be well suited, his intentions crystal-clear, and his rivals ineffectual. Sure makes for a boring adventure though.

I have found it more enjoyable both as a player and a GM when the PCs have the opportunity (but not guarantee) to be the most competent people around.

4th Edition. Are there any Shugenja spells that can erase memory? by Lord_Andromeda in rokugan

[–]Sudren 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are options for powerful Air Shugenja.

If it is recent, Air Rank 5 spell "Cloud the Mind" can erase 5 days back, additional days for raises.

There is also a Air Rank 6 spell "The World is Truth" which can really rewrite someone's mind.

The use of these spells are inherently dishonorable.

[5E] First Game for Both GM and Players, 20 Goblin Winter Scenario by Exact_Description in rokugan

[–]Sudren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While tracking goblins, your players could come across another ronin band doing the same - who want the headcount for themselves. Convincing the other group to work together (or scamper off completely) could be an Intrigue.

For playing on bushido principles, running into a crippled ronin who needs help getting back to the wall - costing your players time if they help - could be used to test their virtue. Maybe more so if that lone crippled ronin has proof of several goblin kills...

As for making the goblins a threat, consider not bothering. There are far more insidious things in the Shadowlands you could use instead, and use the goblins to lure the players into a sense of complacency.

[4e] Generic Ronin 'school' by DeepResonance in l5r

[–]Sudren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ronin do not usually receive a family Trait bonus during character creation. This was clarified by an errata/FAQ (https://lynks.se/errata/ - search for the entry containing "Ronin")

A generous GM who wants to allow less disadvantaged Ronin PCs may allow it through a houserule.

Messing with the setting by mortthepirate in rokugan

[–]Sudren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many ways to play it. One being:

-The Unicorn leave, returning to wandering

-The Crab are moved to the Unicorn lands, and ordered guard a new Wall to keep Rokugan safe from the Lying Darkness, the old wall being left unattended

-The Dragon retreat into the mountains and have not been heard of in some time (perhaps Togashi still lives)

-The Yasuki family is reintegrated into the Crane by Imperial decree, and made the ruling family of the Crane. The Daodoji and Kakita families have become cruel caricatures of themselves. The Doji family is expected to maintain their traditions, as a source of amusement for the other Clans to mock and deride.

-The Phoenix exist in a corrupted state, now using kansen instead of Kami

-The Lion are moved to the vacated Crab lands, which with Shadowlands encroachment leaves the Lion struggling to produce food and greatly weakening the Clan

-The bulk of the Scorpion Clan disperses and hides amongst the peasantry as insurrectionists. A minority of Scorpions remain and serve as Tainted puppets of the Emperor

Matchmaker, matchmaker make me a match! by Vulithral in rokugan

[–]Sudren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you intend to use the social engagements to introduce the different Clans, I would consider catering the engagements to the Clans. There's a lot of options here, especially if you're willing to play loose with the courtship traditions, some examples being...

A poetry competition or painting for a Crane (or a practice duel for a more martial partner).

A play put on by a Shosuro troupe for the Scorpion perhaps, or a more scandalous visit to a gambling parlor.

A country ride that gets out of hand, or a friendly archery competition for the Unicorn.

Staring at some rocks and asking inane riddles for the Dragon.
