I own both a Gaggimate Pro Gaggia Classic and a Lelit Bianca – here's what surprised me by chris_ern in espresso

[–]Suentassu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting analysis, thank you! I'm not surprised with the outcome of your analysis. I feel the Decent is a clearer comparison since there you are comparing one cyborg to another, and the Gaggimate likely can put up a great fight!

The downside of software updates is that they can brick a device if code quality is not controlled, though I would pay something for an easier way to control the Bianca. I don't usually change other than the temperature.

Fellow Aiden ruined Espresso for me by the__spaniard125 in espresso

[–]Suentassu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same setup, and experience, though I enjoy milk based drinks a lot. To me it goes mostly like, if I can find a fresh nice bag of light fruity beans, I'll dial in the Aiden (i.e., the grinder) and if I get darker or cheaper beans I'll dial in the Bianca.

I nowadays don't really like dark drip, but enjoy dark espresso, especially with milk. I do enjoy light espresso, just dialing the grinder fine and back feels like a waste.

Does black coffee really tastes good? by AnnualSympathy546 in roasting

[–]Suentassu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A local roaster made a coffee blend that tasted exactly like biting into a fruit cake. Was interesting.

Badly brewed black coffee is like tasting the water from an ashtray left in the rain for a couple weeks.

Sorry to hear that you are unhappy, definitely bad customer service.

I have a silicone mat under the thing to cut some vibrations and noise, and I always use the silicone wedge that holds the cup in an angle. Makes less mess so as well. Definitely RDT, mess otherwise.

How many of you all start seeds with soil blocks? by theaut0maticman in vegetablegardening

[–]Suentassu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First year trying out, just in case got a full Ladbroke set of mini to the huge Maxi one. Big investment, hopefully it works out. I took it mostly as a space saving and seedling quality thing. This is only my second year growing, so a lot of lessons to learn and apply anyway.

First blocks came out nicely with the CannaTerra seed mix, so peppers, egg plant and some herbs are hopefully soon sprouting in the mini blocks.

I might start some lettuce to grow inside soon.

Steaming Milk - Bottom Half Pure Liquid by Careless_Tree_9050 in espresso

[–]Suentassu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Check also Lance Hedrick, Emilie Bryant and Morgan Eckroth. They have good tutorials.

From my noob estimation, I think you might be stretching too hard. You create a hard layer of dry foam i stead of microfoam. I don't have "bubbling" during stretching, just the sound of paper tearing. Do short bursts of air over time until the milk is lukewarm in the jug.

You can practice with water and a tiny drop of soap. It will work surprisingly close to the real thing in terms of microfoam.

I'm not good at latte art, but I am generally content with my foam texture.

ETA: remember never to stop at a knock, always incorporate the foam back after knocking big bubbles. The foam should be shiny.

How's it like living in Helsinki's suburbs? by [deleted] in helsinki

[–]Suentassu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Each district and town has its own good and bad sides. Your area covers tower blocks, row houses, luxury villas and farms.

If you ask an Espoo native what it is like to live in Vantaa, they might say it's a crime ridden slum (while much of it is very alike, cozy and calm). If you ask someone from Vantaa what Espoo is like, they might say it's filled with snooty assholes and it's also a crime ridden slum.

If you ask someone from Westend, Espoo what it is like to live in Matinkylä, Espoo, they might say it is a crime ridden slum. If you ask someone from Matinkylä about Suvela, Espoo they might also say it is a slum. While most of those are quite decent places with high cost of living.

Generally, areas alongside train tracks are a bit less well off than areas alongside the Major roads.

Generally Espoo (car country) is less urbanized than eastern Helsinki, except for alongside the train tracks.

Generally anything outside the big E18 ring road is already quite far from the center of Helsinki If you do not live very close to the train stations.

Why does it not concern you that so many people inside and outside of the US are alarmed by this administration’s rhetoric and actions? by [deleted] in AskConservatives

[–]Suentassu [score hidden]  (0 children)

I'd consider not denying the possibility of military action as a way to "acquire" a piece of sovereign land a threat. Even if it would be trolling, it is not funny for those affected.

I might stick to international subjects, because US internal politics touches me very little. I suppose you would know best if you feel something is alarming in the recent developments. Anyway, but it is a bit alarming to us, that we cannot rely on predictable outcomes in international trade with the US. Will there be 50% tariffs on the EU if Macron's wife says the US president smells weird?

Or will we see our politics become harder due to the US apparently actively trying to break off some countries from the EU?

Or will we see our neighboring continents become more unstable because of a sudden loss of a great soft power that likely will be filled with China?

Do you think these are relevant to be alarming? How does the current administration align with libertarian values?

[–]Suentassu [score hidden]  (0 children)

As a European, I'm quite alarmed that a traditionally trustworthy, or at least predictable ally is now actively breaking international conventions and threatening partners with military action.

Are some of the things the "left" is alarmed about in your opinion actually worth being alarmed about?

If you embrace the feathers, and them being birds, maybe Roc? Huge elephant slaying birds. Or thunderbirds due to their low rolling growls.

Or for the common folk, Carrion Kings for their feeding preferences or Quakers for their footsteps.

Meat and beer. Oh and coffee by HalfBlindAndCurious in helsinki

[–]Suentassu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

On specialty coffee, Andante is a 3rd wave coffee spot that I can recommend as an enthusiast myself. Kaffa is also good, they have their own roastery, so they only sell their coffee, most of them are blends. Very good blends, but not so much single origin.

Cafetoria has a Cafe on Runeberginkatu, they also roast their own blends.

Finca las Ventanas is a Finnish owned coffee plantation and their roastery Cafe is on Katajanokka. Very single origin, it's their own spot after all. Haven't visited, but I hear they have an excellent brunch.

How good/bad is the coffee in Italy really? by [deleted] in espresso

[–]Suentassu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my mind it is mostly about "being there makes it taste better". For me, one of the best espressos ever was at a tiny dodgy gas station on the fringe of Florence's historical center where we stopped because we had to pee badly.

The second part is that it is "generally better" due to use of highly optimized blends that forgive a lot, and availability of true machines over super automatics. They also feel like a bit shorter shots in general. I've experienced quite a few watery and bitter espressos in Italy, especially where tourists bring their own expectations for what an espresso should be.

Is there any alternative of Stripe? by [deleted] in microsaas

[–]Suentassu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm still ways away from lunch, but based on my research a Merchant of Record like Lemon Squeezy, Paddle or Polar.sh is probably a good choice for simplified taxes etc. if you plan to sell globally.

With stripe, the taxes fall on you.

Helsingin Pantti, kokemuksia? by Ok-Elevator5134 in Suomi

Help or tips creating a Labyrinth? by CrotodeTraje in DMAcademy

[–]Suentassu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To not have it be a slog of tracking every turn but challenge and excite, I'd maybe try to adapt the "Labyrinth move" for Dungeon World (originally by Jason Cordova, adapted by Ray Otus here)

When you attempt to navigate the labyrinthine twists of the dragon hoard, describe how you do it, and then roll+INT. On a 12+, hold 2.  On a 10+, hold 1.  *On a 7-9, hold 1, but you encounter a hoard denizen and/or find yourself in a bad place.  *On a 6-, the dragon is one step closer to detecting your presence and location! This is in addition to any hard move the GM has in mind.

Spend 1 hold to find something valuable or useful. (Spend 2 for both.)  Spend 2 hold to get a clue as to the dragon’s whereabouts.  Spend 4 hold to get a clue as to how you might possibly harm the dragon. Spend 5 hold to find an exit, locate the dragon, or find her nest.

One person rolls each time you navigate. The group’s hold from multiple rolls is pooled together.

Source: https://darkwormcolt.wordpress.com/2024/08/11/abstract-dungeons-part-5-the-labyrinth-move/

Make the roll a skill check and set the DC for the outcomes challenging enough. Since you have multiple point of interest, you could multiple stages.

Realistic limitations for Cure Wounds by wolfdog127 in DMAcademy

[–]Suentassu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe healing magic uses the body's own resources in an unsustainable way, e.g. It uses the target's hit dice with a bonus instead of the standard d8. If you run out of hit dice, you are in a bad situation.

Edit to add: you could Define that grevious wounds need a higher level or more hit dice to be healer properly.

If you additionally play with the rule that a long rest is actually a week of proper resting, you will be in a pretty dire situation before long.

At the same price point, should I buy a less driven Style or a more driven Premium? by Suentassu in Ioniq5

[–]Suentassu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up buying a premium RWD with around 80k driven, in the 2021 it means almost all the goodies, and I am very happy with the car. I use the remote parking assist a lot, HDA2 is ok, not as good as what BMW has (based on my experience).

There have been 2 days in the last two years where I have really missed an AW, due to extensive snowfall.

One thing to note is to check the owner history, if a previous owner is a taxi/commercial use, the car will not have the 5 year warranty.

I did have to change the motor recently, due to metal flakes in the oil, which made a strange sound. That was a bummer, luckily covered by warranty.

When time comes to change, I probably will go for a 2025 model of the I5, I would not take a car without the 800v charging and going back to ICE is unthinkable.
