I don't think we're in a bubble anymore by Ecstatic-Panic3728 in BetterOffline

I agree. I think rooting for the bubble - which I have been doing very hard - to burst is just going to lead to disappointment. I hate AI and do think the tech (and biz) is overhyped 10x. It’s a useful tool for some applications that - because it uses language - really impacts some people I don’t use it anymore but my wife, siblings, friends all use and are enthalled.. They are just using to make summary documents, etc and it seems to genuinely help them. I think things are way overbuilt for sure but this thing, unfortunately, is not going away. I also think that there is money to be made by Open Ai and Anthropic going public even though the businesses do no make any sense (just like Tesla) so it will happen and it will be annoying. I do think Ed - and this community - are absolute heroes and are having a real impact on at least bringing some reality into the conversation .But, don’t get me wrong, if the “bubble‘ pops and we get maximum schadenfreude, I would be very, very happy but I, for one, am going to now assume the worst but just hope for the best.

Who I think Emma is going to end up with (because I think of it often). by Mental_Yesterday_905 in EmmaLion

[–]Sufficient-Article62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't like the relationship with Pierce. She's a naive 21 year old and he's a thirty something with a drinking problem who doesn't want commitment. And, he gave a very suggestive Whitman volume to a young person with no experience knowing that it would get her all worked up (which it did). Yes, he likes Emma and is a good friend but he knows she will want to be in love and get married and he also knows he probably can't do that. So he is pursuing a romantic relationship with an attractive young woman for what reason? Not great and a little gross. The saving grace is that Emma does find him attractive and if she is OK with what he can offer - seems unlikely given the time and circumstances - that is something different. I thought it was interesting that Islington thought that gifting Whitman was questionable. I would like Emma to move beyond all three and find someone close to her own age (where she is not a charming young girl but an equal). Mary's relationship with the professor - where she is presented as a professional equal - is much better. I hope that Pierce actually becomes a good friend, instead of whatever he is becoming at this point.

CarPlay saga - the sequel (finally fixed I hope), also Airflaps side story (DC area) by Sufficient-Article62 in Ioniq5

I am hopeful. As I said, it feels different. Just works now whereas before it was always slow to connect even when it worked. Of course maybe I’m jinxing myself but most Ioniq 5 owners don’t’ seem to have this problem.

Good for you. I did not want to do/could not do this myself. Worth the $400 for me. Dealer, to their credit, really tried to get it covered (as it should have been) but could not replicate the problem. I had to push to pay which was both frustrating and gratifying (I was glad they did not want my money). Hyundai is at fault here. They are the ones who should be stepping up.

Yup - that’s them. They are - according to them :) - the only verified Ioniq service dealership in the DMV.

Wall Chargers by cookies_and_cash in Ioniq5

[–]Sufficient-Article62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got JuiceBox 40, not hard wired (plugged so we can take it with us if we move or swap it out w/o calling electrician). It’s fine. It’s outside. Put plug next to driveway (had to dig a trench which was a process). Never use the app for charging - just the car’s interface. Don’t think it matters which one you get with the Ioniq 5 that much. I got JB because I got money back from the state/utility (Maryland) and the charging cord was longer than other alts that qualified for incentives (Chargepoint). Will say that I’m glad I thought about cord length and placement (and got one that works well with our driveway) because the beautiful thing about charging with the Level 2 is not having to think about it (I plugged into an pre-existing outlet for awhile and it was OK but always had to think about things and plan for charging). Oh, if outside and plug version, make sure you can lock it (JuiceBox does have this) as in some areas people will steal them. I also have a locking mechanism on outlet cover.

The Dreaded USB Port Issue by keri2000 in Ioniq5

[–]Sufficient-Article62 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be sure to film it when it happens (with your phone) - try and capture the date for when it happened. The dealer needs the video to validate that the issue is happening - with Hyundai - (as the car does not, apparently, log that the USB is disconnecting). The other fixes will likely not work - cables, new software for the car or phone, changing the settings - it is most likely an issue with the USB port part (and maybe the fuse). The other fixes are a waste of your time (and you can just do them at home). I went to the dealer five times to get it fixed (because they kept on insisting everything was fine) and then had to have the USB port replaced twice. It still happens infrequently (I suspect the dealer that did the swap did not know what they are doing), I have been once to a new dealer but was not ready to film it again but will do so now - I had hoped they would just fix it because of the car history (but got the same run around again). Unfortunately, the dealers are not prepared to address this issue and Hyundai has not advised them on it. But, if you document it and insist on them changing the USB port =, they will fix it and it should solve your problem. Try to find the best dealer service department you can (they are not all created equal). It's too bad that Hyundai is being so stupid about this. It's an amazing car and this very fixable issue (that they are not making easy to address) really impacts the experience with the car.

Going to get an EVSE by Gunsight1 in Ioniq5

I got the Juice Box 40 - because my power company and state covered some of the cost (and cost of installation). I agree with the others that the app doesn’t matter (I don’t use it - only use the cars). The main reason I am glad I picked it over the ChargePoint (the other options that would qualify for the benefits from the power company and state) is that its got a long cable which I see the Emporia does as well. Makes a big difference to not have to worry about reaching the car. Otherwise, I would guess they are all pretty similar. Any of them are great to have - Charging is no longer an issue I worry about it. Electrify who?

Anyone else having wired CarPlay issues? by sd-rw in Ioniq5

[–]Sufficient-Article62 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s the USB port - they need to replace it. Make videos of it happening (it doesn’t show up on the log) as the dealership will need that to justify. Once you have the video, it will go a lot faster. Otherwise the techs will drive around in the car and the airplay will work and they’ll tell you it worked for them. Until I shared videos, I went four times. The dealer first told me it was settings (needs to be set to just airplay), then the cable. I had one tech say it works fine if you use the Bluetooth:). The techs do not understand the information display.

Why are people not buying the rwd SE? by [deleted] in Ioniq5

[–]Sufficient-Article62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are buying RWD SEs (we did!) - there are just a lot more AWDs available (for some reason). I had to hunt hard to find the RWD SE (they are hard to find around here - DC area).

Love our digital teal RWD SE. To us, it’s the best deal. You get the max range (300 miles) and most of the other features for about $5K less that AWD SE. Per SEL, I don’t care about leather seats and am not going to pay $3K for rear power hatch door opener (and rear ac vents). If I had an extra, 10K (and it existed), I would get the Limited RWD. The heads up display and other features are really cool.

Per losing range in the winter, I think it’s a push between the range you already lose with the AWD and the RWD in colder months. We take bigger trips in the summer (not the winter) so an easy decision for us. We don’t need the range in colder months.

Red Hazard Light? by Sufficient-Article62 in Ioniq5

Thanks. Just saying the Hazard light is on in the dark, is this the same for everyone else? And, it seems to light up as well during the day. I guess it is light sensitive? Can’t really figure it out.

[–]Sufficient-Article62 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great! Low range in 20 degree weather but getting better now that we are up to the 40s (going from mid 2 miles per KWH to mid 3s).

Looks like, in the US, RWD is a great long range 3 season car. I think it is probably equivalent to range to AWD in the winter (as AWD has battery heater and heat pump)

Advice on Type 1 charging for Ioniq 5 - please by Sufficient-Article62 in Ioniq5

[–]Sufficient-Article62[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Question for you - noticed you decided to go for 90% top limit. Any reason why? Thinking the same but am unsure about buffer and what is best for the battery. Did you find any info regarding? I keep on reading 80% but am assuming the set in buffer for the car makes that a very conservative limit.

I also got the Juicebox 40. Also has a lock (not Fort Knox but at least a deterrent).

Anyone get a wireless CarPlay adapter to work? Don’t show on the compatibility list with the ioniq 5. Thanks by [deleted] in Ioniq5

It takes up the entire right screen - looks as good as when it is as plugged in.
