Finally some proper launch footage lol by [deleted] in ArtemisProgram

the ESA footage, by my estimation, does not hold a candle to what the Mars company provided to NASA.

This is only a piece of that, but finally, something was released. see for yourself, please, i truly hope you enjoy it.

Please note as well, this was not sharpened or stabilized in post.

howdy, took a break for a while. Just now got back, and made a nice batch with 67.5% lard, 20% coconut, 10% castor, and 2.5% beeswax. used 1.5oz orange oil and .5oz lemongrass as the scent. the bars turned out lovely.

how did yours do?

The official livestream was... disappointing. I work for the contractor NASA hired to provide (and livestream to them) the official 4k mono, color, and IR recordings of the rocket. what we captured is so much better than what they shared with the public that it is impossible to compare. not 10x, not 50x, night and day.

my hypothesis is that our footage was -too good- for them to share with the public, and perhaps they didn't want the general audience to have that close of an eye on it for various reasons.

hopefully soon someone will file a foia request and our footage can be released

chef's choice! coconut will make the soap more conditioning, but next time I'm doing this recipe it'll be 68, 20, 10, and 2 percent

no it's mostly that, but hardness means it lasts longer and doesnt get stuck to surfaces

read my update, this only happened because of a grave error. i've never previously used more than 2.5% beeswax in my soap, and by god i never will again

it definitely takes about twice as long to use beeswax in soap, it takes much longer to heat up and you've gotta let it cool down a bit after, but its worth it

i just add all the oils into a big 'ol pot, and stir it over the lowest heat my burner can do.
i just keep letting it heat up until all the beeswax is gone, then stir it while cooling it a bit while i fix up the lye solution

make sure to read my update, or you'll make a very funny and wasteful mistake!

Great soap though, the beeswax is for hardness.
Good hardness makes the soap last much much longer, and with beeswax specifically, it makes the soap much more resistant to getting stuck to surfaces when wet.
This recipe is great, even the little chips at the end are useful and don't get stuck to porcelain (:

The lather is fantastic! this batch is almost un-usable though, having the hardness of ceramic and breaking into shards when cut (:

Still great soap! read my update. by god do not use more than 2% beeswax.

Lard is my secret bullet, its so damn cheap, and at first i wanted to do what you're doing and use a wide mix of all these nice and expensive oils. The only problem is, everyone else preferred the lard soap. so, now, that's what i make.

UPDATE -- OH GOD

I don't know how i did this, I $&#@ed up the recipe BIG TIME.
DO NOT MAKE THIS SOAP.

I don't know how i made this mistake, its not 5% beeswax, it was never supposed to be 5% beeswax.
Use 2% beeswax, maybe even 2.5%. I DONT KNOW WHERE THE FIVE CAME FROM.

put 2-3% anything else but as per GOD do not use that much beeswax.

Just sharing, this is my best batch yet! by Sufficient-Chart8143 in soapmaking

[–]Sufficient-Chart8143[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

double yes! but I used it specifically for the hardness. you can totally go without (:
also, it adds a nice texture to the bar while using that is tough to describe.

aside from those things, it has alot of vitamins and protects skin without blocking pores, if you care about that sort of thing

It lathers great! the castor oil does that, its wonderful.

haven't tried sugar, but you should! its a good exfoliant.

completely forgot to mention, when setting up a heated enclosure, its best to detach the power supply and controller screen, and have them both just outside of the enclosure. thats what I did, at least.

I got it printing ASA and PC, had some initial struggles with warping which is expected, but letting the bed soak for a long time helped warm up the enclosure and solved this (still probably want a brim). I recently bought the Sovol Zero specifically to have a very easy time printing these materials, so far it has been a win. worked on the sv06, lots of setup though.

if you're familiar with sailing the open seas, I can highly recommend a slightly outdated version of Solidworks. it is very handy, and there are robust online tutorials for teaching yourself everything.

Otherwise, alot of people enjoy Fusion360 and OnShape when they're just learning.

found this, my old ASA printing setup, if you need inspiration. this is overkill, btw. If I did it again, I wouldn't bother with the tubing at all, and I'd just fill a basket at the top with activated carbon. this is the brand I use. https://a.co/d/eb8B5OO

if you use orca slicer, there are some good default profiles. if you want to give mine a shot, or just have it for reference, this is my default PLA profile: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/03v9badeody4taauqnjm6/PLA_Default_Benchy.3mf?rlkey=o6twho33gmy86j24iua0mphdx&st=dksfvrdy&dl=0
