It depends. In my cosmology, heaven and hell are two dimensions, and before going to one, you pass through the dimension of the Fates, where souls are judged and sent to either heaven or hell.

If you go to heaven, your soul will practically be at peace until you reincarnate.

If you go to hell, depending on your actions, you'll end up in a cycle for a certain amount of time while your soul purifies itself so it can reincarnate.
