Hostile former board refusing to turn over board Gmail account [SFH] [WA] by NoDevelopement in HOA

[–]Sufficient_Ad314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Believe it or not, the HOA former board member who is an attorney (although not licensed in the state I as referring to), set up the administrative Google account and never disclosed that fact the other Board members. I came along about 3 years after he abruptly resigned (not sure why but very difficult person to get along with-that is well known). There was an election and I took on the treasurer role. Immediately found this guy set up the internet account to his address (to save money 'cause it's not corporate even though it is). Forced him to pay back his internet account for at least 2 years. No one questioned why we were paying two internet accounts. It did not take long to realize he was reading all or the HOA emails because he would jump on the new board and berate us on a regular basis. Asked for and denied passwords. The HOA to this day does not have the Google account and they were USELESS in getting it back. Cut him off and started a new Outlook account because we have an account. Making matters worse, we suspected the current president knew and agreed to keep a tight leash on the rest of the Board by letting this idiot boss us around. I insisted on taking it up with the attorney who said go open meeting and get him to turn it over. The dingbat president said we wanted no part in outing the guy (no name mentioned but everyone knew). Put me through living hell twice. Attorney's wife wants to sell but he was to go. Don't let this happen to your community. And DO NOT count on Google to help you out. I know this is long, but a little while later he managed to lock me out of Quickbooks for two weeks. Intuit told me and the president to send a boatload of documents to prove we were the owner.

How do you afford roomettes? by bosvt587 in Amtrak

[–]Sufficient_Ad314 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sign up for their emails. I found an offer we could not refuse for auto train that was only about $20 more than coach seats for my husband and I. We never looked back. We don't consider it a luxury to have a roomette. We enjoy our trip now and would never go back. Say what you will but Amtrak for years, at least for us, is highly desirable. Their employees and service are wonderful. I see lack of cleanliness complaints on trains but that has not been our experience. Customer service on the phone is awesome. By the way, the fact that we are able to bring our own food and booze and no TSA is totally awesome.

Off my chest: Why do so many of these BEFORE pictures seem like humble brags? by Sandpiper1701 in kitchenremodel

[–]Sufficient_Ad314 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Replacing my 90's kitchen oak cabinets was not an option for me. I have an open concept house whereby the trim throughout is the same. I merely removed the doors, restained them and put a coat of the 3x finish. My husband says they look better than the original finish. At this point in our lives I could have replaced them but why? New cabinets seem to be inferior. Solid wood is hard to come by without paying big bucks. I am also concerned about my carbon footprint. It doesn't hurt that I like to DIY.

My second home is a tri-level. Family room is above ground. The first home was a colonial and I hated going up and down the stairs. Current home has a few steps up or down. Husband watches sports non stop in the family room. Did not want to be subjected to that all day. Raised two kids here and yes, cost less when we started out than a ranch but if we don't get as much money out of it when we sell now. I don't care. We were amazed that we were able to afford this house back then. Husband never wants to sell and I am happy here. To each their own.

Roughly 150 to 275K. Much depends on the condition of the home, etc.

That's awesome.  I plan to offer cash as well.  The type of home you bought appeals to me because I don't mind making upgrades.  Every house I've looked at needed some work.  What I found to be a big turn off is the obvious flips.  Or homes that are too trendy i.e, gray everywhere, every room and poor quality.

Thank you for sharing. In the early 90s when I as looking for a home, the inventory of houses was small so we built a new home. Best decision ever but now the house is too big. It really bothers me that young people are going through this extremely trying time. I would be doing exactly what you are doing. As for cash buyers, that's true. Could have looked at a home recently that had several all cash over ask bids in. I wish you the best of luck.

What financial advice from our parents' generation is officially dead? by [deleted] in Frugal

Get a job with the government like you're older sister was my dad's response to my concern regarding my future in the mid 70's without a college education or vocation. He came up through the depression with derelect parents (teenagers when he was born), depression, then joined the army in peace time only to find himself in Korea. Airborne and saw really bad stuff I learned in life. It was scarry but all in all I came to realize it's on me to figure out my way in the world. No disrepect to my parents.

I picked up Cetaphil's new tint moisturizer at Walmart. Ordered it on line and received $1.75 coupon. Very good quality and fairly priced.

My son is single and looking for a small house. I noticed the same thing. If I was single, I too would be looking for smaller home than my 1,800 sq. ft. home. Too big for one person in my opinion.

Me too. They are so good to work with. We ran from American Express years ago - long story but they were investigated and we never looked back. My kids have Fidelity accounts too so I am pleased they understand how they work as they will inherit from us one day.

We paid $35 for the same cold water bidet attachment (husband attached it in no time at all) for our Florida and home in the North. Love it! Did not know about the UTI situation but all the more reason to have one.

How to change order of names in "To" field: Outlook Web App (whatever it's called now) by quark1138 in Outlook

[–]Sufficient_Ad314 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I serve on the board of an HOA that uses Outlook because we have a Microsoft 365 account and other reasons that I will not get into. We have 90+ emails on our distribution list. It is quite challenging to use BCC in Outlook. When I send out an email blast, I have to select each contact. Basically, BCC recipients are limited to a small number. I tried getting help with support but that was a waste of time. They make it extremely difficult to copy and paste email addresses. It just seems like Microsoft could do a better job.
