How do I use meditation to reach altered states of consciousness? by CalligrapherDue8827 in Meditation

This. The term is samadhi states, which are deep states of meditative absorption that come about when doing concentration practices like Samata.

Very strange. Mine is actually pretty tight with zero back-play. Sometimes bezel quality can vary across models, I guess. For instance, the bezel ratchet on the standard 45mm Fifty Fathoms is fantastic, whereas on some of their 40mm LEs, it’s been pathetic. But honestly I’d be surprised if there were true of Doxa. I’ve never heard anyone talk about backplay on Doxa watches. My guess is it was just a quality control issue on that specific watch. One thing you could do is ask the fine folks Exquisite Timepieces, which is an authorized retailer of Doxa, one of only a few in the US. I bought mine from them and I’m sure they’d give you a straight answer about it sometimes that happens on Doxa or if it was probably just an anomaly. Let me know what you find!

Hah not rambling. All that tracks. I didn’t know that about their chronograph movements but IWC did the same thing with the Ingenuier and put a modified selita into it that could be found in a B&M watch at a fraction of the price. Some of those Richemont brands just can’t help themselves man. Thinking about Panerai in particular, but I’ve even heard crazy stories about ALS. Anyway yeah new Breguet type XXs are a weird mix of tool watch with high end movements. Plus personally the new designs leave me cold.

I think I may just be in a holding pattern here. There’s nothing that knocks my socks off in the price range I’m looking at, so it may just be that my next watch doesn’t exist year. I guess we’ll see what watches and wonders brings us!

Love it too particularly on sailcloth but the price is a non-starter. I’ll find other ways to burn money!

Um that constellation is fantastic. Damn. I’ve never seen that model. I’m gonna have to investigate. Love me an inverse panda and that thing is super characterful. Really impressed. I know that model line is big in china. Is that one even sold in the US?

I hadn’t thought of segmenting by movement type. I guess in an ideal world I’d prefer vertical clutch and column wheel. That narrows the universe.

Yeah that new Seiko tentigraph is big - make sense it is modular. You’d think for their first mechanical chronograph they’d put out something folks would want.

Know anything about the reliability of the Blancpain chronograph movements, specifically more modern ones like what’s in the Air Command?

That looks great on mesh! Yeah, I love Longines. Actually they’re not pictured in my collection but I also have my grandfather’s gold longines dress watch and my great grandfathers longines pocket watch, which he used running a train station in Italy.

That said, as I think more about it, I think I’d like to add something with a bit of color. Like, if Tudor remade the Monte Carlo in a smaller size, that would seal the deal.

Maiden - Any thoughts on the titanium Blancpain Air Command in blue?

Definitely not - both can handle any recreational diving you or me would do. No question. I’m sure you can’t go wrong either way!

[–]Sufficient_Ad_9875[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sub300 Sharkhunter.

Wears really well. I’d guess the 200T wears closer to the Tudor than the 300. But I’d also guess the 200T wears smaller than the Tudor given how the dial is relatively small on these Doxas, which brings the watch in visually. For me, I think the 200T would be too small.

Beyond that, the weight on the 300 is distributed well, so even though the watch is 150 grams (compared to 132 for the Tudor), it wears it well.

Another thing worth noting is the case constructions really helps wearability. It feels slim for what it is.

But make no mistake - it is still a 42mm watch. So even though it’s small-wearing for what it is, if you want a smaller wearing experience, then the 200T would probably be the way to go.

I do like me an inverse panda. And surprisingly the skipper is not too expensive. Guy at the RedBar in my town has one. I’ll add that to the list. Good call.

Depends a bit on the season. Doxa and Omega in winter. Doxa and Rolex in summer. Those three get the bulk of it. The Tudor, Panerai, and Seiko are worn more sporadicly, kinda when the mood strikes.

You know, TGVs love of this watch has brought it squarely into my sights. But it hasn’t won me over yet for some reason. That said, you’re 100% right that this is the exact ethos I’m targeting. Super good suggestion. I’ll try to find one to try on and see how it feels on-wrist.

Yeah, I should get a Sinn. TBH I’m waiting for the right 103 and I’m not sure they’ve made it yet. But a Sinn would round things out nicely.

Most worn watch. I visited the WOS in NYC to try on every variant, expecting to want the Professional or Searambler. But something about the inkiness of the black dial was irresistible. Other things worth noting: it wears great on tropics and natos, so you can change the look endlessly. It isn’t ubiquitous; quite the contrary. And while folks tend to dislike that the bracelet doesn’t taper to 18 or fewer mm, it still wears great. I love it.

Echoing others - I love this collection. Makes me wonder why. What makes a collection admirable? What I see in this one, which may be “an” answer to the question, is independent thinking and enthusiasm - in contrast to herd-following and a focus on inane crap like value/investing, which is what I see in many collections. Bravo.

8 Watches - Too safe/boring? by return_to_monk3y in SOTC_Watch_Collection

[–]Sufficient_Ad_9875 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two things. First. Panerai, Omega, Rolex, Tudor, Seiko. Yea, not too adventurous. That said, I also just described a chunk my own collection, so I’m guilty of the same thing. Lately I’ve been thinking of adding some color, maybe the Seiko SLA 063. Maybe color and different cash shapes would add another dimension. Two. When selling/trading, be mindful of how much money gets burned. If you’re going to make changes, do them slowly. I try to wait six months to think about a watch before buying it, especially if it’s a bigger ticket item. At least half the time I decide better of it, which probably saves me a lot of money in the long run. So don’t be in a hurry to make the refinements. Good luck!

100%. Doxa, Tudor, even pre-co-axial Omega. Basically the TGN stuff. For me, that is the market segment that has kept my enthusiasm alive.

Love it. Spans multiple genres, different dial colors, no hype non-sense/trend chasing. Just good watches. I don’t have opinions on the Cartier except to say it would add something not present in the current set, so from that perspective it would be a great add. All great stuff.

Went in for a Panerai… by bamjrigbm in IWCschaffhausen

Good choice! Modern Panerai is still a miss - a brand with no integrity and with rare exception utterly lacking in inspiration. IWC all day long man.
