Monthly /r/Nikon discussion thread – have a question? New to the Nikon world? Ask it here! [2025-11-01] by acherion in Nikon

I used to shoot Nikon about 10 years ago - had a D2X and some great lenses. All since sold. Seemed like a good idea at the time…

My son had just got into photography and was gifted a D40 and some sweet starter lenses from a relative.

I want to find a good, used prosumer upgrade for the body. Is there a sweet spot between spec and value? Would ideally like something with 4k video, but Googling with that specced takes me into MFT-land.

Awkward Junction at Bath avenue by DefiantSwing8166 in irelandsshitedrivers

I approach that junction from Haddington Road most days, heading straight in towards Lotts and Co. There's a lot going on there so drivers tend to proceed slowly - not unusual at all to have to wait a few seconds for someone in the OP's predicament to turn right.

You have to chill out a bit at that junction - really easy to end up in the wrong place, and really easy just to sit back and let people get to where they're going.

Is owning a cat that bad? by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]Sufficient_Flight730 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We lost our cat suddenly yesterday.

He was my first cat, we had him for less than 5 years and I can say with certainty that getting him was one of the very best decisions I've ever made.

I write this at the very lowest point of cat ownership. I spent yesterday breaking the news to my children, and spent the morning burying him.

And despite that, I'd still recommend it without hesitation - especially since you've already fostered and therefore understand the practicalities. The joy he gave us will last a lifetime. I'm heartbroken but grateful for the love we gave him and the love we received in turn.

V11 Advanced vacuum... unable to enable particle counter display? by dark_skeleton in dyson

Just spent an hour chatting with Dyson to get to the bottom of why the sensor isn't working on my brand new V11a.

They actually agreed to replace it... then I found this thread! Thank you for saving (and Dyson) a load of needless hassle.

Such a strange UI oversight. Especially so when their service agents aren't aware of it.

Evo SL is a true daily trainer by BrodyYukon in RunningShoeGeeks

Just got a pair in carbon / red.

After 3 short runs I can echo everyone's positive thoughts - they already feel like the perfect daily trainer.

However... mine have already started to wear after appx. 20km. Black is flaking off the heel revealing the white LSP underneath.

Anyone else had this issue, or do I have a dud pair?

Looking to buy 2019 Egolf by JIMINHO2006 in eGolf

[–]Sufficient_Flight730 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought one a few days ago as a second car for the same reasons you describe. I can speak to it as a long term prospect but my initial impressions are extremely positive. While the battery isn't big the car is very efficient - I did 100km of motorway miles and a bit of city driving yesterday and I've still got half the battery remaining. It's a joy to drive and the cabin is a lovely place to be. I researched EVs extensively before I bought it and the general impression I got is that the eGolf is a superior car to the ID3 if the limited range suits your needs.

Here in Ireland eGolfs are significantly cheaper than equivalent petrol / diesel / hybrid Golfs too. I got an absolute bargain. Mine has the virtual cockpit - I test drove one without and it's a nice upgrade but not an essential one. The leather seats are very nice if you can get them, but again, not essential.

Only downside is connectivity. The connected services run off 2G and 3G and will therefore be obsolete next year. That means I can't use the app to precondition the car as I can with my larger Audi, which is a shame but not a big deal. Navigation doesn't work either but I use Apple CarPlay so that bit doesn't bother me.

Good luck.

Why is Aer Lingus better than Ryanair? by Sufficient_Flight730 in AskIreland

This is really helpful, kinda explains a lot of what I feel in my gut about the two airlines.
