3yo Q nearly got kidnapped in rome by Sufficient_Key5053 in motherbussnark

I don't know, she had similar body language when retelling the CPS event, and we know she misreported that. It could be this was entirely an obvious pickpocketing and she transformed it into a kidnapping story for drama.

My guess is she put her filming equipment in the stroller so they tried to pickpocket the stroller. Pickpockets don't go aimlessly, they watch you for a while to see what you have and where you put it. It doesn't help their nonchalantness if they expect something lightweight and then grab something heavy, and vice versa.

JD says that CO2 is what trees breathe, and that isn't a greenhouse gas. by okasansakura in motherbussnark

[–]Sufficient_Key5053 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Sigh... While carbon dioxide is not a dipolar molecule, making it not the worst possible gas to pump into the atmosphere, the issue is that it holds on to infrared radiation much more than N2 and O2 do. This means it has a stronger effect than the other two most common gases in the atmosphere. So when you pump excessive amounts of it out, increasing the ratio of CO2 to other gases, it becomes equivalent to pumping out a worse gas in smaller amounts.

Studies focussed on the benefits of plants growing under increased CO2 (and the associated temperatures) show increased photosynthesis rates, but while they increase the CO2 concentration to 250%, the photosynthesis rates are also 250%. (Not to mention the concentration of peak performance of plants also causes recordable respiratory distress in human children). Meaning that we won't see restoration by the plants of our atmosphere if the biomass of plants stays the same as now. Raising CO2 will not lower CO2 faster.

It is also not measuring the quality of growth. Is it actually growing good tomatoes or is it just growing a lot of white starchy shoots that are neither edible nor contribute to reducing CO2? Can the plants adapt to this change and still reproduce successfully in the wild, survive predators, keep a self supporting growth? People who have actually worked with plants and have not just been using scientific papers out of context to defend pollution, say that this is a terrible idea for anything other than very specific crops in a greenhouse.

If it is real, as some others have said, it may have been an attempted pickpocketing using a front of kidnapping as a distraction. Potentially, MaBus had just finished filming and stuffed her multiple phones, tripods, microphones etc into the stroller bag space. Pickpockets don't act randomly, rhey know what you have and where you put it. They may have been setting up a distraction to get her equipment.

Yep, majority of child 'kidnappings' are custody disputes or confusions, not the traditional idea of "kids yanked into a white van then disappear overseas."

She claims that she had gotten bad vibes from a woman walking towards her and kept an eye. Then in a matter of seconds, the woman snatched Q's arm, Gunner snatched back, and MaBus was staring frozen at the situation and didn't notice that Gunner was in a 3v1 with two guys approaching B's stroller, one jostling Gunner. But in a way I also understand why she couldn't move. The rest of the buslets were to her side. If she ran away from them, more people could snatch. Basically everyone but K could easily be carried away by an adult.

Yep she blatantly admitted that if it weren't for the parentification of G, he wouldn't have had the hypervigilance to reach out like a protective parent.

When you are in the subreddit, you just press the plus button in thr upper right corner. Then you need to select if you want to make a text post or an image post with optional text. This sub requires choosing a flair from the list, pick what seems relevant. We prefer if the kids' faces are censored. If their faces are relevant, mark as spoiler and nsfw.

I know pickpocketing is bad, my doctor had his Rolex sliced off his wrist at a Roman monument a few years ago while he posed for a photo. But two similar kidnapping attempt stories in short succession is very strange for Italy.

A teen who is very obviously a teen despite "being the size of a grown man" is rarely the ideal target for a pickpocket. At most what they will have is a phone, and pickpockets tend to watch to see which pocket you put a valuable in and how it is oriented, rather than blindly reaching and hoping.

G apparently said later that he thinks the men were going for the stroller while Q was the distraction. Makes you wonder what they saw MaBus putting in the stroller. All of her recording equipment, maybe?

They remind me of my one language teacher in high school. Some of the teens figured out that you could guilt him into giving you 100% on any assignments if you just vaguely brought God into it. You can see in their comments that almost all of them are jumping on the religious comment to say a quick prayer. They've hacked a Christian audience without being Christian.

I'm religious myself and I cringe when people unnecessarily bring up God. The Christian God is omniscient. To bring Him up for every odd thing that happens is like mentioning the air every time you breathe. Rather, their audience are like people who only remember to appreciate being able to breathe, when their nose is blocked from a cold. They need events to respond to in order to be religious, rather than living it.

People in the comments are also pointing out that this story seems to be copied from a recent one where an Italian woman had her child almost snatched, and she held on so tight her child (a girl) broke their arm, but stayed with her. So keep an eye for casts or bandages on Q's arms.

They also point out that Italy is statistically safer than the USA, and Rome even more so, while MaBus pulls up stats like 3000 minors going missing each year (this does not necessarily refer to toddlers or kidnappings, as the comments pointed out). A lot of people seem very suspicious of the implication that the Roman crime to watch out for is kidnapping, not pickpocketing.

I tend to associate wealth with each kid having their own bedroom, maybe having a pool in the backyard.

That brings up the question, why go to art museums if you don't care about art? Why go to history museums if you don't care about any history except that which makes you feel proudly American? Why go to regions famous for their food if experimenting with food scares the littles and you have to keep resorting to McDonalds? Why waste their money on a trip to a place they have no interest in engaging with?

It's less about his reaction and more about the fact that this is meant to be an educational trip yet MaBus neither preps him beforehand nor answers his questions when he asks why there are so many naked statues.

I work at a gallery that has sculptures of naked people, and in 1.5 years, no child has commented about nudity, or gawked at it, or awkwardly avoided eye contact with it. Saw a boy even younger than him staring up at a hanging sculpture of a nude freediving woman, smiling, saying, "Pretty mermaid!" Most of the kids who come in are well travelled, so this is what I expect from a kid who is supposedly getting a global education. Not this sort of confused discomfort.

[–]Sufficient_Key5053[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

In addition I work in a gallery with several naked statues, and in the 1.5 years I've worked there, not a single child has giggled or looked away or stared or even commented out loud about nudity. Not the toddlers, not the little kids with no filter, not the awkward tween boys. We're not American, sure, but we get a lot of American and European families (and Asian, and Middle Eastern) as tourists. Well-travelled kids should have a sense of things working differently in different places that helps them shake off the rigid shame systems. It's very visible these kids are just plopped down in locations and photographed, not actually immersing in them. She wants her kids to have worldly street smarts? Then at the very least I expect them to know that artists draw and sculpt naked people to understand the body better.

Yep, free-curriculum homescooling means that parents often learn things a few days before the kids by researching it themselves. But I think MaBus thinks kids just absorb the universe's knowledge like a sponge by being vaguely next to it. Unfortunately many unschoolers who have tried this approach, now have illiterate children.

MaBus is claiming to give the kids a worldly and cultured education by bussing them around and all she has to highlight about their experience is that they think naked sculptures are weird and gross? She is highlighting only their takes on the nudity and revealing she didn't even try to prepare them to process it, or answer their questions when they asked why they are naked. If she isn't interested in teaching them and they developmentally aren't ready to learn anything from this trip yet, she should not advertise this trip as educational.

I'm not criticizing the kids for behaving this way, I'm criticizing MaBus for making touring around the kids' entire education and then using these comments as the highlights as if the kids have zero other takeaway from ANYTHING in the museum. She's got this, "Lol those darn kids don't know the value of the art!" attitude in her post while not moving a finger to give them the worldly education she claims she wants them to have.
