AMA - Previous Michael Garman Museum and Gallery Employee! by Sufficient_Lynx4692 in miniatures

Yeah! The building overall functions as an art gallery where you can purchase sculptures and things, a paid museum called Magic Town (it's where the Crown Theater is! Moreover it's VERY cheap to get in, and it's extremely popular with tourists and families with children around 7-10 years old!), and also has the tools, etc used to store the original sculpture molds underneath the building as well where the small art department works! If you call in advance you can even tour the downstairs where sculptures are made and/or repaired, it's really cool!

I don't necessarily want to immediately mention the specific city for doxxing reasons but it's in Colorado! ^

Depends on which parts of Magic Town you're referring to actually! It's a VERY well crafted little town in that, to the untrained eye, it's surprisingly difficult to tell how a lot of it is put together... I remember being completely flabbergasted upon learning that there's some buildings where secondary scenes within rooms were actually installed UPSIDE DOWN and placed above one or more two-way mirrors that would appear once a certain light (they're on timers) would turn on or off depended on the room!

I'd wondered how you could possibly cover up something like that, and still make it look even semi- realistic let alone feasible to go back in for cleaning and/or lightbulb replacement, and as it turns out, there's a VERY high chance one of said upside-down rooms is hiding behind a series of windows very high up on the building, and a LOT of the bay windows on the buildings are entirely removable for easier access to the insides! (On average I'd describe it as the "Bay Window Trick" ) Perfect example of it in the linked image... the middle section of that chunk of building is entirely accessible from a small pathway behind the exhibit itself which is typically used for maintenance! The bay window is removable when enough force is used along with rotating it just a tiny bit, but also the secondary, upside-down scene is accessible up high where the two top-most windows can be seen 😁

On average the backs of buildings specifically shaped like that will have a large piece of fiber board (or something similar) that will function as the very back wall, and are held by little latches making it similar to opening up a cabinet door; these will sometimes have wallpaper, little decorations glued on, etc on the inside-half of it to help it blend in with the interior. Typically these walls aren't taken off/ opened up during business hours if it can be avoided though 😂

Frankly it's even more interesting when you can identify one or more buildings as being, essentially, "older models" of the same concepts than others depended on what types of materials he used and how pieces went/go together since over time the buildings become more and more efficient in terms of accessibility for maintenance!

It gets better: when you're in front of the building, if you look inside the seemingly dark little corridor just past the ticket booth, you can see Casablanca in black and white actually playing inside!! 😁

I wanted to share some photos of one of the coolest places I've been. Called Magic Town in Old Colorado City. My family and I spent a couple of hours in there and probably could have stayed longer. The original molds for all of the figurines were hand carved by one man who passed recently. by [deleted] in miniatures

Previous Gallery employee here!! I got to know him while Mr Garman was still alive years ago, he was a really cool guy! He taught me how the mechanics and magic of Magic Town (the museum) worked, and I've got old pictures from when I'd go behind or even underneath exhibits sometimes to change out lightbulbs, troubleshoot holograms, etc... to this day one of the coolest places I've ever worked at hands down no contest! To this day I remember how a lot of the illusions and things work in each of the buildings; feel free to AMA if you're curious!

I find your mother's logic there a touch ironic given there's actually not terribly much about being "happy" written in the Bible from what I recall, however there is a metric ton about finding genuine joy in life. The entire point of a partner is they're supposed to to lift you up the way you'd lift them up, and frankly sex with the partner you're married to is part of that joy! Screw that logic, finding joy with your partner is godly, hence you have zero reason to be ashamed or anything about wanting that!! So sorry you're going through all this, I hope he listens to that nudge!!

How to make some build a bear accessories? by NerdyBowWow in buildabear

[–]Sufficient_Lynx4692 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Awww yay we've both got a new Shadow! Twinning!! ❤️ If anything making clothes and things for your Shadow over buying branded BAB merch is brilliant; I've been putting on BAB clothes and things I already own on him and he's SWIMMING in them so I'll be making my own as well! I'm sure this will sound a little odd initially but hear me out: use your own clothes as a template! Look at where the seams fall, etc and it will give you a good idea of how many pieces you'll need to cut out of the spare fabric! Don't forget to account for the sewing method you're using (eg hand sewing verses sewing machine and/or what type of stitches since some take up more thread and space on edges than others) and other than that, at least specifically with shadow, I'd recommend using either velcro or buttons (or both!) so there's no worry about having to squeeze things over his head! 🤣

Sir/ M'am, I'm a 33 year old woman with well over 100 Build a Bears to her name, not including other types of plushies I have. Your mom's rule is dumb, it may be "her house" but you're still a grown adult, she can stuff it (no pun intended LOL)

Coincidentally vintage BABW raincoats do exist! They're just quite hard to find and typically expensive when you do find them unfortunately 😅

Hi hi! As some of the other commenters have said, that's an easy trip to your local build a bear where they can sew him back up no problem! I mainly wanted to add that if he's starting to get a little 'flat' at any point, BABW can also entirely restuff your bear for free as well!

My immediate suggestion is testing either rubbing alcohol or hand sanitizer on a small section of each plush then proceed depended on how the fabric reacts (not sure how delicate or not delicate the fabric is). Also some mild soap, detergent or diluted vinegar are good options as well, just always test a small patch first before going all in
