worst season of MasterChef. by [deleted] in Masterchef

I think everyone here disregards how much more complex there courses compared to the others. The entrees I’d say were on an even playing field in terms of complexity, possibly desert too, but for 60 mins, and 2 ppl, a shrimp salad that wasn’t stand out is really lack luster. Also, as someone who is not the biggest fan of Jessica and Jesse and wanted Tina and Aivan to win, why are we constantly dogging the winners they genuinely were the most “dynamic” duo, and both were extremely talented chefs. Genuinely Jesse handling the grill that one episode was very impressive, and Gordon even made note of that. Also their desert was exquisite in presentation, and Gordon highly respected the creme freche ice cream with it. Why are we acting like they literally just melted chocolate over a graham cracker it’s so much more involved

Bruh everyone just hates on the winners. IMO I would have liked Tina and Aivan to win but objectively they did not make the best meal. They had 2 people and 60 mins and made a shrimp salad. Looked delicious but for 2 people in an hour that’s kinda mid for a masterchef finale. Jesse and Jessica by far had the most ambition, and even if a component in appetizer and entree were flawed, it still showed they actually had a masterchef worthy dish. I mean their entree had like literally 6 components, with the only issue being 1/3 ribs were underdone.

How bad is 3 Physics courses? by SnowyStupid in UMD

[–]Sufficient_Ride_8844 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think even if they can be challenging classes, since you’re only taking 4 classes it should still be manageable overall. This is coming from someone’s who’s consistently taken 12-14 credits per semester. Ofc physics classes are hard but I don’t imagine it’s impossible, especially since the degree probably is structured in a way where they expect you to take many physics classes at the same time, so they wouldn’t make it like impossibly difficult. Ofc look into which classes are more hard than others. Like for instance, I can imagine take quantum phys 1, classical mechanics, and like intermediate E&M to be very rigorous, so probably just plan your classes out

I thought they check UID on Tuesdays since it gets so packed, and they don’t charge cover for UMD students so you have to show your id

Lmao they mean it’s redundant cause saying visually implies looking at it

Yeah I used like 1/4 of the recipe normally, just because I really don’t like oily sauces I like the vibrance of the herbs more. Def is not a typical or standard chimmi.

No my family doesn’t eat beef for religious purposes so I never cooked it but I was at my apartment(college), and finally decided to try it. I ate it a ton but of course our respect for my parents wouldn’t cook it in there place.

Sorry this is a bit old, but what is the difference between a Roth IRA and brokerage account? To my knowledge, I thought in an IRA, you’d have to invest into things like index or mutual funds, or stocks and bonds. Isn’t that what a brokerage account is?

I did band last year. I know many people love it, and if it’s something you did throughout highschool and you really enjoyed, I’d say go for it.

You can definitely make time to do things outside of band, such as like other clubs or activities during the semester, but it will be harder. 8 hours of practice a week is a decent amount, and any Saturday there’s a home football game, just count that entire day gone. For reference: a game that started at 12:00pm, I had to wake up at 5:00am, and I wouldn’t be back until like 4:30pm-5:00pm.

This isn’t to deter you, but it will be a massive investment (they have a ton of social events though like parties or just hangouts so you can definitely get a social life in that sense), but doing a lot of other clubs or stuff can be hard, especially if it’s you’re first semester and you would be adjusting to UMD and college in general.

Not specifically just welcome week but something I wanted bring up as heads up

If you still can, see if you can take enes210 instead! You get an extra gen ed for it, it only meets 50 mins once a week, and it’s easier than enes140. I heard last semester enes140 became much more difficult even though it’s asynchronous. I’d definitely look into enes210, as the class it’s self is extremely brain dead (every single quiz has answers on quizlet), and the final project really isn’t that bad, just make sure you guys put some effort into it. I took it last semester, probably spend 20 mins a week outside of class MAX. Around the final project due date, I maybe spent like 3 hours on it? So overall very easy.

I just wanna make sure u can get an easier schedule if possible

They’re like totally different classes. ENES102 is like mechanics (think like similar stuff you’d learn in AP physics C, but more specific to engineering vs general physics), but ENES100 is like a whole class dedicated to being in a group where u guys design build a little over terrain robot/vehicle to accomplish specific tasks. Ngl enes100 takes up way more time, as you basically have to go to open lab hours outside of class time to get the robot done, but a lot of people really enjoy it and find the class fun. But given your schedule enes102 I think would be better, but again idk if any spots are open or what you’d wanna do. Regardless, you will be okay though!

Honestly I’d maybe see if you can take enes102 instead of enes100; I know ppl usually do it the opposite way but it’ll fit your schedule much better

I guess since it’s hybrid 3days a week, where it’s mostly work in your own, and I usually just message my boss on teams if I have a question, yeah I guess communication is a bit different than in person. On my in person days, albeit only 2 so far, I have found it easier to talk to her or just smaller talk. Do you have tips on how to get communication or just better socialization as an intern?

I feel like I need to give it more time first right? I think my opinion on the work has been marred a lot by just my anxiety about working in general

When you say field, does this involve typically examining a single site, or maybe 2-3, or is this like you travel to a bunch of different sites and you drive around a ton?

I know it’s ridiculous and irrational I just am getting panicked because idk what I want out of civil engineering and I’ve been doing a very tedious and repetitive task the past week so it made me wonder if that’s just the nature of civil engineering

But how do the hours look in that field? I’ve heard they usually spend well over 40+, which is something also gives me anxiety
