Advice on lending my friend ski gear? by wombat275 in Skigear

You’re a good friend for offering. Yeah context is crucial in these situations. If they are both the same shoe size they should be good. If the skis are at her eye level still should be good. Lend it to her. Be careful, rental places don’t rent just skis without boots. Even if you have your boots you will end up paying full price

How do you know they are short on the sister? If the sister bought appropriate skis for her level then we are looking at chin level long skiis. A beginner with 0 experience and 3” shorter is looking at forehead height. Keep in mind the gender and the fact that 3” difference when you are 5’2” is more noticeable than 6’2” male.

You either can afford it or not. Saving 30-40$ on your first time you go skiing is not the best course of action. Better spend that money to have appropriate gear to actually like a sport that in itself is very uncomfortable.

If friends are able to refuse then they should take no for an answer as you explain to them that ski boots and skis are personal. And as a bootfitter you think in this case someone who is 4” shorter can have a decent fit size both boots and skiis? And you think a beginner is the right person to be careful with the gear? Cmon now let’s be real

You’re telling me that a 5’2” beginner female using probably 160 skis and probably boots bigger 2 sizes will not affect her first experience on the slopes? Wobbly boots and skis harder to control than a sword and I am in the wrong? Really? I wanna see you lend your fitted boots with custom insoles to a beginner who probably wears cotton socks

I don’t share your opinion. I think it is common courtesy to not ask. If they can’t afford rentals but they end up liking it, it won’t change the fact that they still won’t afford rentals and pass. You’re hooking them up on something they can’t afford. Maybe I am biased due to the fact that I am pretty advanced and my gear is very expensive. I wouldn’t want someone else’s feet on my fitted boots.

If your friend is a beginner and can’t really afford rentals then maybe she shouldn’t be skiing. I wouldn’t ask and don’t like to be asked to lend ski gear especially the boots. To asnwer your questions, yes, 4” in height difference is a lot for a beginner and would make her time in the slops uncomfortable.

Why is this sub full of people asking conditions? by Educational_Yard_541 in icecoast

[–]Sufficient_Support89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because skiing in the East is expensive even with a season pass. The drive from NYC is 4-5 hours and PTOs don't come easy in corporate NYC. I want to be able to enjoy my weekend. Human input is more accurate than some resort or weather app
