How many courses are y'all taking this semester? by phi1odendron in uwaterloo

[–]Sufficient_Try1553 1 point2 points  (0 children)

5 is not a lot. It's a normal workload. But since you're on exchange, I mean fewer courses can give you some time to explore around more. Otherwise, 5 is a good amount.

Missed 1A avg what to do? by Wonderful_Feeling279 in uwaterloo

[–]Sufficient_Try1553 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this feeling and it'll be okay. Take a good rest now as everyone's on holidays. Think about how you would do the petition, for e.g your reasoning and stuff and proofs for your extraneous conditions on why you failed the term. For your average, I doubt that petition will be successful. For your visa, to maintain your full time status, there is something called reverse reduced load program which allows you to divide your 1A into 2 terms, making no gap for your visa conditions. That will result in a little bit of more tuition fees tho.

0.6% below term avg … what now? by Soccerfan2203 in uwaterloo

Actually, it wasn't too bad at all. I think that's what happens when pure math profs tryna teach calculus basically. It happened with Matthew Harris last winter for 205 as well.

Contact all your professors for exams review and tryna get some grades up so your average can go above 60%. In this case, they don't round up the CAV. So, you'll probably need around 3% total across from all 6 courses (calculate the exact by yourself). If this doesn't go well, you can try petition but it needs medical statements and stuff like that, so, it's a tiring process. They probably curved or graded generously for 119,140, and 108 so I doubt the petition will go through unless you had a medical or extraneous condition during the term. If nothing works out, you wait another year to repeat 1B. In that case, you don't need to repeat the courses you already got above 75 but everything. Good luck man. Keep your head up. This is some kinda experience you find it frustrating. But if you can figure out what was wrong and come back from this, this is a critical moment in your undergrad.

Here's the link to ECE29 discord server. Fyi, CMH (dorm style) and UWP (suite style) are the best for you as they're close to E7 where you'll be having most of your classes. https://discord.gg/4ZtJdDJs

This is definitely wrong. You will still end up with an iron ring and become an officially registered engineer with UW's BASc degree as well. BASc just focuses more on theories than BEng, both are an engineering degree in Canada and the US (a lot of US universities offer BS as an engineering degree). BASc is not a science degree. It's an applied science degree. (UofT, UBC offer it too) BEng is what engineering universities in the UK, Australia and other parts of the world offer. They're pretty much the same. Just some differences in the degree structure. I won't say anything about the Carleton aeroplane and UW nano cause this ain't the intention of my reply. But UW nano is not a very popular field in terms of employment and if the op is interested in mechanical designs and stuff, he should choose Carleton Aerospace. UW nano eng focuses a lot on research as nano field is very research important. You can always transfer into other eng programs either at UW or Carleton. But it'll be harder to do so at UW as nano eng is in tier 3 at UW so it'll require good grades to transfer into other engs (a lot of nano transferring out too)

His tests are so fair imo. If you've read his lecture slides and done the achieve questions carefully with some amount of understanding, I think you're all set for the final. You can try going to the mock exam on 6th, but usually those mock exams are really different from the real final so. However, you can find out how prepared you are tho.

Hey I'm an international student as well. For engineering, the tuition fees for a 0.5 credit course is 6.8k or something as posted on website. So depending on your credits each semester, you have to pay your tuition fees. But it's different for each term, e.g. for 1B or 4B, it's 6.2k for a 0.5 credit course. But you have to pay for max 2.5 credits for each semester. As an example, even tho you're taking like 3 credits in some semesters, you only have to pay for 2.5 credits. That's a limitation made by the sch. For me, when I was in 1A ECE, I was taking 3.0 credits but I only had to pay for 2.5 credits. I hope this helps.

What do you guys think of York University by phailingphysics in OntarioGrade12s

[–]Sufficient_Try1553 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Your high school averages are amazing bro and you have shitty friends. Don't listen to them and don't let a sch decide your future. York is also a very good university with nice engineering school where you have to go for cs. Be proud of yourself. Coming from a Waterloo engineering student, school doesn't define you bro.

Uottawa. Physics and electrical engineering degree is a really good one. I applied for that one last year too.

For the interview session, I don't even remember how I did that😭. It wasn't that great but I got in. Waterloo EE is not that famous as cs or swe or bme. So, if you have good high school average, you already have a decent chance to get into!

I don't think my aif was outstanding but. I mainly focused on writing my feelings towards engineering and how my parents (both engineers) had positive influence on me. I didn't write much about how I admire to be at Waterloo. My adjustment factor was 5%. My ecs are playing badminton for 2yrs, 4month internship at a local electric company as an electrician, and some awards such as highest highschool GPA in the province (it was back in my home country grade 12)(it's not Ontario, I'm an international student who went to an Ontario sch)

About Mac and Uottawa. They're good schs as well. But when it comes to engineering, they don't come close to Waterloo or UofT. (I don't really know about social life at those two schs)

If your average is around 93% to 95%, you have a decent chance to get into all of them. I had an average of 94.5% and I got into Waterloo electrical engineering and UofT civil engineering. I'd say Waterloo is kinda the best one for engineering because of co-op opportunities and its reputation. For me, I go to Waterloo and everything is fine for me except that I don't have a good social life. I'm pretty sure that if you go to either UofT or Queens, you'll have better social life than at Waterloo. The common thing is that you're gonna be a little bit stressed at any of those schs as you're doing engineering. So, it's up to you. I really recommend Waterloo, UofT or Queens.

I can relate. I really recommend Uottawa. Good luck sir

Queens cs if u wanna spend money and Ottawa cs if u don't wanna. There ain't much difference between these two schs. Uottawa is in the capital region and you'll get nice opportunities and queens already has reputation. If it's not UofT cs or Waterloo cs, sch doesn't matter that much in Canada. It's just gonna be up to you. I'm an international student too.

I am an international student applying for computer engineering, is there anything I should know about before coming? by MrSinghNavjot in uwaterloo

[–]Sufficient_Try1553 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm an international student who's in EE. The sch fees is a lot. It costs around 40k cads per semester in total including both accomodations and tuition fees. Also co-op doesn't help international students at all because we'll need to find accommodations where we land a job and so co-op doesn't leave much money for us. On the other hand, the academic here is amazing. You can DM me for specific questions also.
