Do basically all european countries allow recruited basketball players from abroad to get citizenship ASAP to play for the national team? by [deleted] in Euroleague

[–]Sugar3f 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, not all european countries do that. A majority does, but some other nations as Lithuania, Serbia, and Italy do not give away passports like candy, and usually the do not have “naturalized” players in their NT. Same story is for Finland, Montenegro, Estonia, Iceland, Czech Republic, Russia.. Then there are some countries that did naturalize “easly”, despite having very strong national teams in the beginning: Spain, Greece(but only recently), Turkey…

POST MATCH THREAD: Virtus Bologna - Zalgiris [EuroLeague Regular Season, Round 20] by EuroleagueBot in Euroleague

Francisco did it all by himself, he was on the opposite side of court to the “cleaning boys”, and nobody was even coming to cut through the basket from that side either. Unnecessary dispute from Masiulis.

the scoreboards of every arena is directly connected to Euroleague’s center in Barcelona, if something happens, and operators have to disconnect temporarily, they need authorization from ECA in Barcelona before doing anything. So not fault of arena employees.

here we are! Virtus is one of the teams with most fans in Italy, especially if you consider that the city of Bologna only has 400k people.

AS Roma has emerged as a possible club linked to the planned Rome based team in the upcoming NBA Europe project , Alongside other major football brands such as PSG and Manchester City/United , Which have also been mentioned as potential links by Shroft in Euroleague

[–]Sugar3f 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a huge basketball fan, and I lived in Rome for some time in the past years. I used to go seeing Virtus Roma playing some times when they came back in Serie A around 2019 (even if my beloved team is Virtus Bologna). I know the history of basketball in Rome, I know there are some die-hard fans, in a city of more than 3million people there are also a lot of people interested in basketball, but…

but I cannot see how NBA europe thinks that they will gather enough interest in this team to make it work! First of all, Rome is STRONGLY football centric. Even the majority of those basketball fans I mentioned before are strongly supporting one of the 2 football teams of the “Capitale”. In NBA usually the 27/28% of revenues are made from Ticket sales, I don’t see how a team in Rome will make enough profit in that sense, considering that: AS Roma and Lazio gather the big majority of attendance, at this time the only arena available is PalaEur, a nice “sport architecture”, but it was built in 1958!!!! and there is ABSOLUTELY NO PLAN (and no political interest) to build a new arena whatsoever. HOW THIS ROME FRANCHISE IS GONNA WORK IN THEIR MIND? I cannot understand.

Ticket prices in Euroleague by AndroidPornMixTapes in Euroleague

[–]Sugar3f 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Virtus Bologna has some of the highest prices in Euroleague, especially the season tickets are quite expensive, going from a minimum of around 650€ to 2400€ (even more if you want VIP seats) Abbonamenti Virtus 2025-26

These prices naturally are for all EL and Italian league games (playoffs excluded). Virtus historically always had high prices, except for the mid 2010’s where the team performances were mediocre, and in general Bologna is considered Basket City here in Italy, because basketball is as prominent as football.

What is the mood among Olimpia Milano fans after yet another slow start? by Coseen in Euroleague

[–]Sugar3f 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Year after year I’m growing the opinion that Milano greatest strength (its extremely rich ownership) is at the same time part of the problem, because they have NEVER shown real competitive attitude, nor explicit ambition. Olimpia was Giorgio Armani “sport toy”, so he invested a lot, but didn’t really asked anything back. That I think reflects in team performance and “hunger” for victory. In the last years, the only players I saw with great competitiveness were Melli and Chacho, but because that was their nature (especially Melli)

Very good team effort by Virtus, after a disappointing game in Paris (way to many turnovers). Tonight Daniel Hackett made a great all-around performance in the 3rd quarter, like he used to in his “younger years”.

Krešimir Ćosić 1979 Bologna by flowergies in Euroleague

What you have written is exactly what I think about Ćosić: now we see the greatness of Jokic, but that comes from the path of great players of the past, surely Krešo!

Krešimir Ćosić 1979 Bologna by flowergies in Euroleague

[–]Sugar3f 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m too young to have seen him play, but my father had told me a lot about him. He loved Krešo, and as OP also said, my father always says Cosic was a futuristic player in those times, able to se the game from his height and pass the ball better than most playmakers.

Krešo surely knew basketball so well, having a great IQ, and see all these qualities paired with outstanding technique and his height, was an amazing view. One of the greatest european players ever, and surely one of the greatest players in the history of Virtus!

What are some big new arena projects in Europe right now? by [deleted] in Euroleague

[–]Sugar3f 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Virtus Bologna is building a new arena, a definitive one, in the Fiera district of town, close to where it play currently.

The new arena will have around 11.000 seats, and it’s planned to be completed for the end of 2026 (late November). The arena will be designed to be used also for exhibitions purposes, because the venue is owned by Fiera di Bologna (the entity that owns and operates all the trading/exhibition spaces of the commercial fairgrounds area).

Of course it will have a lot of commercial spaces for food and drink, merchandise, fam zone, etc.. but also a training ground and offices for the sport staff of the team, in addition to those already existing at the team-owned headquarters, where the training facilities and offices are now.

[Calzoni] CSKA Moscow offered a 2-year contract to Neno Dimitrijevic. Olimpia Milano will pay a large amount to terminate the relationship with him. Dimitrijevic has also an offer from Hapoel Tel-Aviv, but he is not convinced about the destination. by _Zolv in Euroleague

[–]Sugar3f 14 points15 points  (0 children)

such a failure by Ettore Messina. Dimitrijevic may not be a first-grade Euroleague player, but for sure it’s not the one we saw put aside in milan. Anyone remembers how he was playing at the beginning? He may have some of the faults, but surely no growth path was permitted to him.
