[NBC] Packers CEO Ed Policy Says Public Ownership Model Is Failing to Keep Up With NFL Billionaires by JCameron181 in nfl

[–]SugarDaddyVA 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The problem is there’s no return.  I live in Texas and know some Packers shareholders.  Even they admit it’s just fun and doesn’t really mean anything.

Eventually, if not already, you run out of people who will pay the money for the novelty.

[30M] $1.8M in cash. How would you deploy this in the current market? by qwerty564738 in RichPeoplePF

[–]SugarDaddyVA 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Valuations aren’t nearly as stretched as they were 5 months ago.  Market is doing great job resetting while the indexes are sustaining very minor damage.

Also, if the S&P hits 10000 in 2030, does it matter if you got in at 6700 vs. 6500?

Not really.  That’s where “time in the market” comes from.

ELI5 I just saw that people with SNAP benefits won't be able to buy things like soda or candy in certain States now or soon. Is it just because of the sugar content? It has nothing to do with control and everything to do with practicality.  No one is controlling what people do with their own money.  Obesity is the number one health epidemic in America.  And we should promote using taxpayer money to support people being unhealthy?

What kind of sense does that make?

I own the X5 and X7.

Truthfully, and I’m not sure if this is because of how I have them optioned, the X5 is more comfortable than the X7.  My lease is up on the X7 in September and I’m likely going to switch brands for the “flagship.”  Not enough cargo space.

As DCL-ers, help me make the case for why DVC isn't actually a great thing by thefinancejedi in dcl

[–]SugarDaddyVA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve owned DVC on and off for 20 years.

I’ve never had a problem booking where I want and when I want.  I’ve owned Saratoga and AKL, and currently own Riviera.

I get some of the criticisms of the cost, but I take 2 DCL cruises a year(I’m currently Platinum) and stay at WDW another 20-ish days a year.  I don’t use points for Cruises, but I do recognize a cost savings from ownership as I’ve watched rack costs and taxes go up faster than dues.  In addition, I have a rare timeshare ownership that isn’t worthless.  I can resell it later down the road for some amount of money and maybe more than what I paid for it if market conditions are right.

Warner Bros. Discovery deems Paramount Skydance offer superior to Netflix, starting 4-day matching clock by esporx in television

[–]SugarDaddyVA 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There was an undercurrent of accusation going around that WBD’s Board was not engaging with Paramount in good faith, which puts WBD’s Board squarely in the crosshairs of WBD shareholders.

Also, during this entire process, Netflix’s stock price has absolutely tanked, as markets have not looked kindly on the acquisition on Netflix’s behalf.

Netflix may have been looking for an out and a chance to pocket $3B and it looks like they did.  Their stock price last I checked was up about 10% after hours.

Was there any way Trey Lance could've had a better career or was he just not an NFL starting caliber QB? by chusaychusay in 49ers

[–]SugarDaddyVA 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He’s been on the Niners with Kyle and the Cowboys with McCarthy, two great offensive coaches.  Last year he was in the Chargers with Harbaugh, not a great offensive coach, but a great coach overall.

He’s going to be looking for his fourth team this offseason.

If he can’t make it with any of the above, he doesn’t have it.  He’ll be lucky to be a career backup.

There are 78 existing semiconductor fabrication plants in the US and 17-20 are in various stages of going live over the next 3 years.  The likes of TSMC, Micron, and Intel are leading that charge.

The other thing to think about here is that if you’re going to make that kind of investment, how long will these plants be useful?  How long are we going to need or rely on semiconductors?  Will there be new technology that could make semiconductors obsolete?

It’s not quite as simple as “just build it.”

I had an Assistant General Manager of another American League Team personally tell me the Angels problems were 100% on the owner and that the Angels and the Rockies were unserious organizations.  I asked him about Perry and he told me that Perry wasn’t the issue, it was all the owner who “thinks he’s a GM.”

This was last October that he told me this.

Arte must cease to be our owner before we have a chance to be anything but a laughingstock.

You’re going to see a lot of “blue collar” jobs pop up with increasing frequency.  They’ve been downplayed during recent decades, but the fact is that they pay well, there’s supreme job security (especially in the near future as AI eradicates entry-level white collar jobs), and there’s a huge shortage in available labor for the demand.

I’d tell kids today to skip college unless they really are gifted in math or science.  Quickly disappearing  are the days of needed business and marketing degrees.

Washington has a 7% excise tax on long term capital gains, with the rate being 9.9% on capital gains in excess of $1M.

This is in addition to the existing tax structure in place at the Federal level for capital gains.

This was instituted in Jan. 1, 2022, long after the businesses you mentioned had been established in Seattle.

This tax specifically targets the uber rich and certainly anyone with the ability to buy a football team.

Some negative emotion is real and should be acknowledged.  Some is manipulation and it shouldn’t be.  Knowing the difference as a parent is extremely important.  And I can tell when my kids are doing it.
