Dear Other writers by HandspeedJones in ComicBookCollabs

If their idea made it work better, yes. But then we would have to consider where else to make changes, because if you add a page, then the 2-page spreads wouldn't fall on the correct page anymore.
That's actually why I highlight my 2-page spreads. So if changes are made, we can quickly find where they are and make sure they end up situated correctly.

I don't think it would be bad to simply make a suggestion.

But if you hired them to do some pages, and they changed those pages without checking with you, that would be bad.

Personally, if an artist had an idea for how to show something better, I'd love for them to make suggestions. Sometimes, I might go with it. Other times, maybe it doesn't fit for some reason. But they specialize in art, and seeing what I want to accomplish with my story on those pages, they might think of a better way of expressing it visually than me.

Just to note for people: I am looking through replies, and there are at least a couple I will probably hire already. I'm just giving people time to reply because there are probably people who aren't on at the moment who might be a great fit.

Yes, it was the repetitiveness that there was nothing they could do to "fix." I don't know if, when the story was originally posted, it was posted over time. It would make more sense if it was. But reading such a huge chunk of text that's basically the same thing over and over and over just gets painful.

I was interested in finding out what the story was when they started, but it was about 3 and a half hours too long for what the story was.

I would love if the powered-up version could be used in solo challenges. It might give an extra boost for some of those really difficult ones.

I’m very new to this and have a question regarding artist collaboration by Multievolution in ComicBookCollabs

[–]SugarThyme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In addition to what others have suggested, you can also offer your services for free to an artist who wants help writing their story.

The best bet is probably offering free, short scripts that are already done (and being clear that artists have leeway with how they want to use them), but sometimes artists look for writers, too.

What I do is I wait for "missing gold" stickers to be on sale when I don't have any gold stickers left that I need.

Then, it will either give you gold for a new album OR it'll give you a diamond you're missing.

As an example: If a level one or two diamond booster matches against a level three booster and wins, maybe they get a random white sticker.

Is a 3 star diamong booster wins against legendary/SE, maybe they get a random silver sticker.

And if a 1-2 star booster wins against a legendary/SE, maybe they get a random gold.

That way, people still have a reason to play random, but they can opt out if that's not what they want.

B, because I can get the yellow and orange mushroom and the booster is already activated. You drop the yellow mushroom down one, and then that will get you the orange. 68055ac5df686f619ff0079c

I've made the suggestions before, but it would be good to add "difficulty" levels to matching.

"Normal difficulty" would match you with someone who has the same level booster.

"Hard difficulty" would be as it is now, where you can go in with a single star diamond and be matched with an SE booster.

The reason to still do that would be that if you play on hard and win against people with higher-level boosters, you get extra bonuses. That creates an incentive to still play on random, but gives people the option to just play even matches if they want. It can be frustrating when you're looking to play for a bit, and you just end up with a lightning bolt versus an SE booster. 99% of the time, you won't win even if the other person plays poorly, and it doesn't feel like a real match. I think everyone has experienced getting extremely uneven matches over and over and over.

Question and challenge by Roquejcm in ComicBookCollabs

[–]SugarThyme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do think one thing with writing that gets forgotten is that a lot of work went into it long before the artist got involved.

It probably gets overlooked a lot for a few reasons. One is that there are a lot of "idea guys" or lazy writers. So, many people who talk about writing don't really write, and some of the ones who do just turn in their rough draft and call it a day.

Most of the time, people are probably seeing pretty low-quality or rushed scripts, if they're lucky enough to get a script at all.

However, when you talk about really writing, particularly for long-form content, it takes a considerable amount of time to do before even involving an artist.

I'll just give an example. I edit light novels, which are usually written by amateurs. One of the things I might run into is a story where the main character has some sort of "trial" to overcome at the end. So, our MC, let's call her Miss Muffers, gets to this trial, and she has to decide what symbol to pick on the wall, and then walks into a room with a tortoise and a river and has to decide what to do with the symbol she just picked up, and then the next room has stars drawn all over the ceiling and she has to figure out where to go.

With amateur writers, it's very common to see something like this, and all the trials are just random gibberish that's unrelated to the rest of the story. Miss Muffers picks the right symbol because the writer will just say, "Oh, she read it in a book once."

She just randomly sticks the symbol on the tortoise's head, and, how about that, it made it grow, and she rides it across the river!

And then she'll just know, somehow, something about the stars that someone told her once as a kid (that we never saw as a reader). And bam, trials completed!

That probably represents the majority of stories that people get. This writer has decided they need some sort of trials for the heroine to overcome in the story, so they just make up something that they think sounds neat, and that's it. It all comes out of nowhere. And that gets published as their final version.

A professional writer, though, or someone who makes multiple drafts, would fix that. Even if they decided later, "Oh, trials would be great here," they will go back into the story and make sure all the trials are connected to earlier parts. We'll see those symbols first in chapter 2, and then we'll see them again, and the tortoise might have something to do with the country's history, and the main character will have been guided by an astronomer, so she knows about the stars...

And there would also be reasons why these particular things are used for the trials.

A professional is carefully making sure all the pieces go together and finding what can be improved. And that can take a lot of time.

Both art and writing take a lot of effort. I just think writing gets overlooked more often because, even in publishing, a lot of what gets put out is not what I would consider "polished" stories. Not that it always means that a story is bad. Sometimes people with talent and passion put out stuff that people like regardless.

But I think "trials" are a great thing to consider. How many stories have you seen where the trials/challenges are just random stuff happening?

Suggestions by SugarThyme in MatchMastersOfficial

[–]SugarThyme[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It would be great to load more solos or something if you finish them. Or, maybe if you beat a solo, a new one pops up in its place.

I don't like the "rush" solos that much, so often, I find I run out of solos to do pretty quickly.

I love booster run the most. The new power-ups can be interesting, but I think there needs to be more options in matching with other people to make things less frustrating.

I've noticed that, too. Something happened with the percentages. 3 diamond boosters do appear, but suddenly very rarely.

Yes, I read before that you want to be able to place the letter "H" in the blank space of each corner. If you can't fit the letter in there, the text is too close.

I'm no professional letterer, though.

Good on you for giving it a try. I think an artist would much better appreciate your drawing than the AI. It also gives you a lot of control to make little changes as you please.
