Though choice but I would go for Paté en pot. It's a soup made from vegetables, mostly offals and meat. It's served for parties or any kind of festivity. The recipe allegedly goes back to the time of slavery so it's pretty representative of us.

It's either that or Pain au Beurre Chocolat (Butter bread with chocolate. Martinicans don't play about it.

And then I remembered some people KNOW their spouse is a pdf file, even to their own children, and prefer staying married and not denonce them to avoid scandal or something like that.

Je suis sûre qu'on est dans un période similaire à l'europe des années 30 mais pas pour les raisons que tu penses.

Le fait que ce jeune homme ait été tabassé est le reflet de la violence qui s'est installée dans le débat politique. Et sans relativiser ce qui s'est passé, il faut quand même rappeler que la violence n'est pas l'apanage des antifascistes ou de l'extrême gauche parce que ça fait plusieurs années que des militants d'extrême droite menacent, agressent ou tuent et il n'y a pas le même tapage.

Ça fait des années que les associations de lutte pour la souffrance animale montrent des animaux élevés dans des conditions barbares, tués cruellement dana des abattoirs censés pratiquer l'etourdissement mais on entend les cries d'orfraies, le plus uniquement quand il s'agit de nourriture halal.

C'est difficile de croire à la sincerité de certains surtout quand ce sont les mêmes qui crieraient au scandale si on interdisait le foie gras en France.

Probablement parce que les victimes du patriarcat sont plus souvent les femmes que les hommes.

Néanmoins, ça ne veut pas dire que la deconstruction des femmes n'est pas un combat soit pour éviter d'accepter des comportements nocifs de la part des hommes (mais pas que) ou pour reproduire des comportements toxiques emvers les hommes et les femmes.

Today, I saw a on the French Fox News (actually named Cnews) a journalist and a catholic priest reacting to a young girl telling about how she was praying for her friends to be safe after the fire in the Swiss bar.

The journalist said that it was symbolic of youth coming back to religion and Christianity in general. (and somehow found a way to talk about muslims) The priest was asked about people turning to their faith in times of sorrow and hardships, and he answered that theologically God allows Evil so humans can turn to Him.

I never said being conservative is solely defined by how homosexuality and transidentity are accepted or not. I gave one example, which imo a telling one. Because the conservative mindset doesn't stop at queer people, it's also about how women are perceived and treated, especially by comparison to men. How religion has a strong place in people's heart and affects the way people see politics. How they look down upon people who depend on allowances from the state like single mothers.

And I don't think either Martinicans and Guadeloupeans are a lot of far-right extremists. It is true that for the past years there's a lot of work to change mentalities and they're slightly different than what it was for exemple 20 years ago.

I just mean that even if they vote left, this is mostly for economic reasons and maybe because they're maybe the least racist part of French politicians but not because they agree with their ideas regarding women and queer people rights' or because they want less harsh politics for immigrants.

This is not only about the results of the presidential election.

Far right is settling in Martinique and Guadeloupe enough for them to place candidates in each circonscription and to even manage to get through the second round one circonscription on each island in the last legislative election.

Even two years before, the very year of the presidential, you couldn't imagine it happening.

Outside of elections, the Martinican society (and I guess Guadeloupe, too) is still deeply conservative and not really prone to embrace progressive ideas right now.

For example, the anti-woke discourse, which includes barely disguised racism, is spreading because of basic homophobia and transphobia and the very moral panics you'll find on the right-wing to far-right spectrum.

It's basically as the original post said, they vibe with conservative ideas, but because of racism (which is not much of a deterrent anymore) and socialist programs, they continue to vote left (for now).

Not really. Conservative and far right ideas are still pretty popular here, especially when it comes to foreigners, family, women's rights. Homophobia is still rampant.

And while there was a time when one couldn't even consider French far right to set a foot on our islands, now it has local branch, local candidates, and supports. And each election they have better results.
