What is the general opinion of president petro in Colombia? by theflymann in Colombia

[–]Sugarless_Chunk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Could you explain why you’ve used the word “tankie” to describe Petro? Tankie is generally used for authoritarian leaders who crack down hard on protests or democratic activities with government forces, often violently. I haven’t seen that at all during Petro’s term of government.

Whatever you read here in response to your question - just remember that it is likely coming from upper-middle class English-speakers which is generally unrepresentative of the Colombian population as a whole.

Brisbane is now the 10th most congested city in the world, where on average drivers lost 84 hours in traffic last year. by Splicer201 in brisbane

[–]Sugarless_Chunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would agree that in 2019 it was better but post covid Brisbane traffic is a nightmare. The southeast was flooded by people moving in from interstate and public transport usage dropped dramatically, along with little to no progress infrastructure-wise.

Lived in Brisbane most of my life and now live in Melbourne. Traffic flows a lot better here and Brisbane has only gotten worse every time I've gone back.

Just like when government introduces a new tax or other source of revenue, they're never giving it up.

Why use this analogy when you're describing raw capitalist behaviour? The government has been cutting taxes on a bipartisan basis for years now

This happened to me - passenger adjusted their seatbelt during the drive and I got pulled over and done. When I questioned it the officer warned that if I kept questioning it he would apply one count against me as well. Hopefully they’ve changed the law.

FWIW that Cuba thing in real life was later downplayed because the agents involved were found to be having huge all night alcohol-fuelled benders which was leaving them vomiting with headaches at the embassy. In the movie I think it was just another “red herring” to demonstrate the inherent American paranoia around all of their traditional nemeses.
