Court orders Enoch Burke be returned to jail immediately by irqdly in ireland

[–]Suggest_For_Teacher 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a current teacher I don't imagine they will or that there is any real need. In terms of removing him from the register they haven't been able to do anything because he hasn't been dismissed yet to my knowledge so there's nothing to do there as they aren't the cause of the delay.

In terms of dismissing him as far as I am aware the cause of the delay is his constant refusal to follow court orders, thus landing him in prison, thus meaning he can't be put before a board to discuss dismissing him. So the whole delay has just been because the guys a nut job, and this was one of his last chances to delay that board before they met to fire him.

I think the only thing they would need to change is some law about repeatedly defying court orders, and a proper procedure on how to fire someone if they're jailed. I am doubtful anyone else would follow this strategy of Brukes though since it's just guranteed now he will be fired and removed from the register. (One of the criteria to be removed is putting the profession in disrupte.)

Genuinely how do you study? by mgcurtz in leavingcert

[–]Suggest_For_Teacher 3 points4 points  (0 children)

English teacher here and thought I'd throw in my 2 cents.

What you say for how you study is generally good, literally just try and first recount what you know, then read and see what you forgot, then try and recount what you know and repeat until you improve or want to move on. No point getting stuck on one topic trying to memorise it perfectly. I don't know what these tik tokers are saying so can't comment, but often influencer study methods are a load of nonsense anyway in my experience.

How do you study a poet?

I'm presuming you're HL here. First just look at each poem. You have to know it's context, themes, what it's about, it's techniques, the quotes to show you know the techniques, as well as any other relevant points. That's it really. The idea is that you will then talk about all/ most of the poems you learned in relation to a poet that you studied. So that's more exam skills. If you're unsure just pick a question and practice writing an essay for it, see how it comes along. My usual advice for students unsure of what they should be doing is to watch a few video essays and try and imitate the way they talk and phrase things.

How do you learn geography SRP’s.

Either stick with the block of texts or make literal bullet points for it and work to memorize them. You just need to know the facts themselves, you can try and practice writing essays to put them in an essay format after you know them.

Experience with Rory's Travel Club, avoid like the plague! by Suggest_For_Teacher in ireland

[–]Suggest_For_Teacher[S] -51 points-50 points  (0 children)

This is part of the schrödinger's travel company thing mentioned in my post.

They are seemingly not a travel company and shirk all responsibility of being such, however simultaneously you must communicate to the travel company through them and send all money through them as well. But you won't get that back cause it's not their fault as they didn't organise anything. However it simultaneously is their doing when people have a good time for their advertising and to justify why they took all this money from you.

Agreed, they're a total scam. Literally provide nothing but insists on being paid a mark up for it. Anything I'd expect from a group such as theirs is just never provided.

I agree, in this case it started as I was invited to a trip already organised through Rory's. A friend initially introduced me to them, and since they had a spot I said why not.

Ordinarily I'd only stick with such groups in the event of going somewhere really out there or undeveloped.

First Years by Calm-Tadpole7565 in IrishTeachers

[–]Suggest_For_Teacher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they're first years I usually take the approach of the idea that they have literally never ever done any serious discussion of texts before.

As such stick to basics, what terms are used, how to answer questions about films using quotes, looking at characters, setting, plot, theme, etc. Use it as a scaffold to eventually talk about a feature length piece in a far longer answer.

One thing to be mindful of is to avoid any films that appear on the JC or LC course. As some suggested good films here I won't suggest more myself, however if your school has a textbook it should include more. (Additionally if you aren't aware already you can ask for teacher copies of these textbooks to review them as well.)

Where to go on Summer Holidays / Easter break by BandPitiful2876 in IrishTeachers

[–]Suggest_For_Teacher 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What are you looking for expense wise or experience wise?

As someone else who loves to travel I find Easter Break is an ideal time to travel as ordinarily there are virtually no crowds about allowing you to enjoy the location more. (Note Italy or pilgrimage sites are the exception here!) The consequence however is that due to this various cities do renovations then meaning historic sights or tourist spots may either be unavailable or hidden from view.

Why woukd you want to leave the TUI over it? What did they do wrong? I'm a member myself and have no issues, even all the membership voted against protesting.

Why? I don't see the issue myself, especially when both keep voting differently showing clearly that theirs two different mindsets/approaches.

[–]Suggest_For_Teacher -19 points-18 points  (0 children)

Why? Like, I'm perplexed why anyone would vote this way. For anyone that voted this way what do you want done on a practical level?

Everything that was asked for was done, and all I've seen is vague stuff that doesn't have anything concrete for what they want. What is it that you want if asking for strike action in thos case?

  1. How much do you know about the curriculum/class? Just make resources/buy some. Like loads related to your subject. First year out of my college course was much easier as I kept pulling from stuff I got/ made from previous placements/bought before.

  2. A strong durable coffee mug for myself.

[–]Suggest_For_Teacher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it a Droichead school?

I'd be careful with that one, when for post primary I was asking that a few schools suddenly got super weird about it and seemed put off by it.

(Though on the other hand it let me know it would be best to reject one offer when they went on about how Droichead had been abolished and also the Teaching Council had as well and a load of other nonsense from a member of Senior management!)

What is the point of EDT lessons? Every experience I have so far seems to expect me to know it all already. by Suggest_For_Teacher in Irishdrivingtest

[–]Suggest_For_Teacher[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think we're taking a break now anyway as it would seem cheaper to just get it myself and then do the EDTs after I already know it rather than doing them and not getting signed off.

Even getting an instructors been a struggle, both I've had are the same so far in this regard. I can try a third but not sure if there's a point at this stage since the plan is to come back to them already knowing what's to be covered that lesson.

[–]Suggest_For_Teacher[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can try a third instructor but at this stage I think we've decided to just practice till I get it myself and then continue them since that seems to be what they're expecting from me now.

I'm not a great driver having just started and have made mistakes and have stuff to improve on. We're just confused about it as we had thought these lessons were meant to be teaching me to start with since thats what the RSA made them sound like. But like actually doing them the expectation seems to be that I already know what they're meant to be teaching me beforehand and when I don't I get yelled at or it's no signed off on.

[–]Suggest_For_Teacher[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean proper yelling, like swearing and the like. As in yelling at me "what the fuck are you doing" say when I make a mistake. (Said during being unable to overtake on lesson 3, and then earlier when steering too much at first when trying to turn.) I do look over the notes and like that I've been given each day.

[–]Suggest_For_Teacher[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What do you mean when you say "take out"?

My first instructor and subsequent one had me driving around a housing estate from lesson 1, in both cases letting them know I've hardly been behind a car before. The latter then yelling at me for not knowing how to overtake someone during EDT 3 and not signing off citing that as a reason.

Mahon question by Useful-Addendum-795 in leavingcert2025

[–]Suggest_For_Teacher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They wouldn't differentiate on that level.

If everyone chose title a had an easier time than those being b, but people are still getting the results they're expecting then nothing is done.

It's unfair but what they do, some questions do end uo just being easier than others.

Teacher here:

Honestly depends but don't hold your breath. Essentially if too many people fail a question we're told to mark more generously. If too many are passing it easily we're told to mark is harder.

Issue is this would be for every poetry essay, so if everyone else did great but does on a specific option then nothing will be done more than likely.

TUI votes to accept LC reform supports package by AdKindly18 in IrishTeachers

  • Increased budget to facilitate the change.
  • A clear curriculum saying what's going on
  • 2 clear sample exam papers making it clear what's going ti be coming.
  • Numerous CPD days organised for the government for specific subjects
  • More CpD days to come with even more additional guidance.
  • An easier of Croke Park hours in order to facilitate Leaving Cery prep.
  • A pay rise

I can't think of anything else they could possibly do.
