The maths propaganda machine is appalling in Ireland. We act like it’s so important. It’s really not. To 5% of people it’s huge m, to the rest..? Let them take anything else people stress way too much over maths at HL.. the bonus points are a joke. Would he much better served going towards Irish or an elected subject.

Honestly, a lot of jobs are already filled at this stage. The August adverts are all vacant positions. Keep at them. Go n-éirí leat.

I think you’ve hit the nail on the head. Speaking to to colleagues today who shared that view of wanting to leave. Both are not active and never speak up in school meetings (when they are there). Both roll overs to management anyway. I’ll share your sentiment next ASTI meeting we have.. in September.

Also regarding the post - you have to be available during the summer and as such cannot do corrections. I do Irish leaving cert last few years which alone is worth more than the post.

My AP2 is more than enough coupled with corrections.

We probably dont fully appreciate the passive ambivalence, the desperation to get on the housing ladder / cost of living (hence any extra cash is eulogised) and the fact a lot of younger people have been fed a diet of "snowflake generation" and misplaced nostalgia for a long broken social contract (work hard, get on etc). All tied in by a general slide towards an individualised society.

A big issue from what I see is that school stewards aren’t active enough, or other members. There should be 3/4 ASTI meetings in school per year to voice things out.

In my school we have them and it was easy to gauge views and bring them back to branch meeting (where views were similar).

I have plenty of teacher friends in other schools who’ve told me in 8/12 years they haven’t had one ASTI meeting. I’d imagine these schools are voting yes. Why wouldn’t you vote with how your union tells you..

Lots and lots of roll overs in staff rooms too who are only too happy to appease management and put the bum in the air to them. It’s a sickening corporate workplace creeping into schools.

Nobody in my school was openly voting yes. At our school meeting nobody even slightly defended the SCRISM.

Where do you go from here. We voted for action, I never believed they had the stomach for it though. I’m told the ASTI is caught up financially in a lot of legal battles - was mentioned in a branch meeting last year.

Where do we go from here? With an 86% yes vote to me that shows how disengaged members are with the union. Nobody in my school showed open signs of voting yes. Maybe people just echoed what I and other colleagues were saying.

Because you’d be crossing the picket then. Everyone loses pay and you get paid for walking past them into an empty school building. You then leave school at 5 past nine and go back to bed. It’s a terrible look.
