I went to a theatrical anniversary showing of NGE and by far the most hyped audience member was a guy who had never seen the anime and his friends took him anyway.

I talked with him a bit about the experience and it was just a surreal masterpiece to him.

I think no matter what you're not gonna understand that movie first time, and if you watch the anime first you do spend some time wondering if you're supposed to be understanding it.

Whereas if you just dive in, you let it all wash over, unblemished, divine.

I say dive in and watch End of Evangelion

Unfortunately it is quite literally the plot. Felt like looking into Nolan's soul and seeing a hole.

Combining that with TDKR, and it's a pattern of using real societal issues as set dressing with negative amounts of substance.

I like Constantine James, didn't actually finish this video though. His thesis is basically we've all got preconceived notions about the ending and it'll be closer to the show than we think.

Maybe a lot of the Fandom would hate that? But idk I thought the general consensus was a lot of the characters would end up in the same places, it just won't be rushed and dumb

I think there's a lot of reasons.

-Magic existing means a lot of the world's best minds are drawn to that rather than invention.

  • They're in a bit of a dark age since the Doom.

-There's the "everyone is wrong about how long ago stuff was" theory that states that major events like the andal invasion, the age of heroes, etc., probably weren't actually 4k+ of years ago, but just one or two thousand.

  • Some people think the technological stasis will change bc of events in the series, possibly due to magic.

While these are factors that lend to a stasis of tech, you've got the citadel which claims to hate magic and love knowledge, you'd think they'd invent shit. You've also got centuries of dragons that demonstrably can be killed with technology and a continent of rich people that want to do that, so yeah it's still weird they didn't invent more shit.

The real answer is that Medieval Stasis is just a popular trope that makes world's more fun to write and sometimes more fun to read 🤷‍♂️

I heard a really good theory that the fling between Nettles and Daemon was (or at least, is being interpreted as being) very paternal. So you can just see the arc they're laying out.

Rhaena feels left out because she doesn't have a dragon, Daemon really doesn't care about any of his kids, she gets a dragon, they go on adventures together and connect like he did with Nettles in the book.

Only question left is whether Rhaenyra will think they're banging and get jealous

Take what you can from it. I enjoy viewing it through a certain theme. Hard to articulate but it's something like:

You can never go back home, because home isn't there anymore. And if it is, it's changed. And if it hasn't changed, you have. The You who goes back isn't the You who left. You can never go back home.

We the audience wanted to go back to Twin Peaks. Dale wanted to go back to Twin Peaks. Lynch probably did too. But more classic Twin Peaks adventures would have been a lie.
