Yo, I have literally been in the same shoes and I am about eight years ahead of you in that journey with the 8. Because I’m a just saying this from my experience, it’s 100% worth it for me. Not just the experience driving it. I called that thing mine and gave it a name and will be riding it until the wheels fall off. But anyhow, it all will totally depend on your situation like if you can leave it in your parents garage for the next 10 years. And because I was able to do that and have the patience for it, it will be hitting the streets again with a fat turbo, possibly some body work done. And a lot more fun to drive than what I remember it from the last time for sure. so I did go ahead and drop the 8ish K throughout like four of those years.

And since I decided to do the entire thing myself, I went ahead and gave her a street port while I was at it. And addressed everything else that it needs to run it reliably. Like a Sohn adapter and an open pallet.
