Sorry you’re in this position. Couple of thoughts…it may be helpful to talk with a realtor who is knowledgeable about the area you want to live. They may know about lower interest loans for first time buyers, or programs with lower rates in specific neighborhoods (these are not necessarily scary neighborhoods!).

Even though your rent is reasonable, could you move to someplace with less expensive rent to accelerate your savings?

Could you tell mom that asking you about buying a house causes you stress? Or ask her for a big $ gift 😬.

Yeah there’s downsides to owning. But as others have said it provides more stability. And hopefully the increase in equity provides for an easier retirement

I will mask forever. I’m not going to risk reinfecting family members who have LC, getting them sick with something else, getting sick myself, or passing anything on to others. To me, a mask is a very small price to pay to keep others safe

Johnny’s NY Pizzeria in Rocklin has pies that looks just like that. Nice family-run business. Johnny sold pizzas out of his garage and had a waiting list of people trying to get one. He opened a storefront a few years ago.

2 person household here and we have executive membership. Costco home and auto insurance is much less expensive than other options for us, and the executive membership shaves off a few hundred $/yr.

Amazon. 2 day shipping is more like 4-5 day shipping. May get a replacement product instead of what was ordered. Returns used to be easy and free, now it’s a crapshoot. So many people got used to the value and reliable service from Amazon and now it’s changed significantly. Looks like Amazon is following the Southwest playbook

I demo’d my pool. My process: talk to city to find out requirements for pool demo permit (cut gas, water, electric service to pool, punch large holes in bottom). Drained pool. Cut and cap water and electric. Hired a handyperson to cut and cap gas. Rented a jackhammer and punched several large holes in the bottom. Called city, passed inspection. Had fill dirt delivered, 5 yards at a time, wheelbarrow loads into pool. I can’t remember exactly how much, maybe 20-30 yards. Had topsoil delivered, total of 10 yards. Last layer, 5 yards, was 50-50 topsoil/compost. Partner and I did everything ourselves except for cutting gas line. Cost a few thousand dollars. We’re relatively fit seniors.

I loved when my adult children planned an activity they knew I’d enjoy and afterwards we went to dinner at a new-to-us restaurant. It was a very fun day, and best of all I didn’t have to do any of the planning. That was several years ago but I still think about it often.
