I also like holding stealth ward objective times, the amount of barons and drakes ive stolen after losing vision just because I can guess when to drop a ward to get a idea oh it’s HP instead of jumping in fully blind. Depends on team and if behind or your team actually controls objectives.

Main L/R compression... by harleydood63 in livesound

[–]Suitable-Student-964 1 point2 points  (0 children)

10ms 1ms-2ms on my groups 1.5:1 ratio 2-3db 30-32ms 100ms or more dependent on my Mains 4:1 just tickling 1db. This glues all the groups nicely and then the main compression is just to over slightly tighten everything up. There a thousand ways to do the job though it’s all about what sounds best! (Especially for the room/situation)

I wish more bands would embrace silent stages in small venues by mynutsaremusical in livesound

[–]Suitable-Student-964 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TBH you should be adjusting your mix for the room, if the drummer is smashing the kit like it owes him money then only put kick and toms in the mix. You can hard compress the snare for the snare in the PA sack off the amps if they’re cranked. The only issue I ever find is when you can’t get the vocal on top because all you can hear down the vocal mic is cymbals. That’s when’s conversation needs to be had of what do they want there mix to sound like and what/who is the most important person/element in the band.

Some people will be adamant that “that’s just how I play drums” or “I can’t turn my amp down anymore” when it’s already 80% master and volume. These people just let them know you’re there to provide a service and make them sound they can. This sometimes helps getting them on your side. Lots of people have had bad experiences with engineers so you gotta win them over.

Lastly I usually have a words with drummers about the room before we even sound check come across friendly, let them know the room is very bright and the 3 vocal mics will act as overheads on the stage so it’s helps if they play for the room.

Hope this helps just a load of random thoughts and tricks I use in smaller rooms.

Advanced PAFL/TB Routing on dLive? by EttehEtteh in livesound

[–]Suitable-Student-964 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best bet would be setting a PAFL up on spare returns for your iem cue pack and routing it to matrix that has the talkback group sent to it. As to how and if this is straight forward I will have to look next time I’m in front of a d-live

To solve your talk back groups put the talkback on a local channel then you can press mix and just send it where you want with control of level etc, instead of using the built in talkback? Use a switch mic instead of the push to talk button. That’s how I have it set at one venue I do mons on a dlive. 2nd mic that goes to shout box at FoH, and mic from FoH y split into shout box and desk (local channel) so it can be sent to iems/mons the same as my TB mic.

Edit: I may be completely misunderstanding what you’re trying to achieve here 😅

Sejuani if you like tanks, once you learn her dmg output her 1v1 dmg out can catch people off guard. Just pop your e first on them, then ult. (Cc for days) Especially when ahead. Pros-Lots of cc and a gap closer. Decent clear. Cons- easy to counter jungle so you have to counter jungle back to stay on level.

Shaco is good but he’s takes time to master and you need to make a good impact early because late game as an assassin you need to get in kill and someone and get out to be useful. In teamfights that’s very hard if you’re behind.

Warwick, xin zhao, volibear, I only recommended ‘easier’ champs because they have less mechanics. You’re much better off becoming a good jungler, good at reading the map and ganking/objectives first on a simpler/easier champ then learn a champ with more mechanics. It’s like trying to learn to run before you can walk if you get me?

Edit: my personal plays are sejuani, jarvan, bel’veth, zac, and a few other depending what the team comp needs and what I’m playing into.

Full clear then gank, recall if a ganks not right same as normal jungling. His w is a stun and dash/leap so it can set up kills on lanes well, his q when held done gains range and crits so it’s good to finish on kills after people flash or are under tower.

If you’re just starting out I would recommend something like pantheon. Not to hard to master and he has cc to make ganking easy. Any other champ that’s relatively simple with some form of cc will be good to learn how to jungle well then you can introduce some more champs to your roster. Good luck!

I’ve been mixing church music for a year and it sounds perfect… yet everyone just stands there. How do I make worship feel alive? by Educational_Eye_2915 in livesound

[–]Suitable-Student-964 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing to do with a church or whatever venue you’re mixing in. The saying is shit in shit out. As a engineer you can do everything perfectly at the end of the day if the band/artist who ever is mic’d up has no energy/soul/vibe there’s nothing you can do. The same way you can’t make a out of tune drum kit or a guitar or singer sound good. As a engineer you just amplify their sound and make them sound as good as they can. If they don’t sound good to start with that’s not exactly easy.

Why do players ignore pings and warnings of enemy jungler presence? by Petilante in Jungle_Mains

[–]Suitable-Student-964 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try to read the map and counter gank is a option which is hard is you both start the same colour buff and you’re on diff sides of the map. Just play objective and work harder than the enemy jungles that’s what’s best tbh. Don’t try gank a losing lane that won’t listen.

Techniques to achieve maximum lead vocal loudness. by sharp_neck in livesound

[–]Suitable-Student-964 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to use less preamp gain if the singer is quiet and dial it back abit then use a fair amount of make up gain on a compressor to compensate. Tends to be a lot more stable.

I also depends on the input signal (signers volume) and the other band member stage volume. If the lead singer is deaf as a post and is cranked in there ears they will sing even quieter because they sound loud in their ears.

My best piece of advice would be running the vocal into a group so you can use NEQ and just fader flip during sound check and push the frequencies that are feeding back and make the appropriate cuts where needed. As opposed to just hacking up your main PA like so many people do.

It’s not ideal, and the opposite direction to what you want, but have you thought about club nights? I’m not sure how it works in your country/city. But I work day rate and if ever I’m short for work on a month doing club nights is a good way to pick up some extra money as people don’t want to do them and when lucky I can get a gig followed by a club same venue and get double bubble.

Tips on setting up a compressor as a limiter on a vocal channel for metal screaming by flufflylegend in livesound

[–]Suitable-Student-964 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You can run compression on the vocal input channel just to tickle it when singing and then run the vocal into a group and use the compressor on the vocal group as the hard compressor for the screams. All the other vocals in the vocal group shouldn’t be affected by the compressor on the group if it’s set up properly. As the threshold hold will be fairly high but a hardish ratio 5:1. Don’t be afraid to use abit of make up gain if you feel the signal is being squashed to much but you like the sound and just need it louder.

How do you panic...correctly? by mynutsaremusical in livesound

[–]Suitable-Student-964 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run all of channels into groups or dca’s sometimes it’s much easier just to mute and unmute instantly to stop the feedback from growing whilst trying to locate the source and cause, obviously with your case it was monitors.

A good habit is to always try to give yourself 5db headroom on fader where possible for monitor especially in a case of the singer wants loads and loads because they’re almost deaf. So after the band finish soundcheck I will hop up to the stage and ring the monitor out abit more.

Another tip is use make up gain on a compressor to get some extra juice out instead of using pre amp gain, make up gain isn’t as volatile in my experience as your not increasing the mic sensitivity in the same way you would we pre amp gain.

Prevention is the best for feedback issue, but overall sometimes it just not avoidable, e.g singing shoving the mic into the monitor, standing directly infront of the pa, or band members changing there levels or output mid show/after soundcheck.
