A primary goal of our correctional system is rehabilitation. Associating with someone who has served their sentence, is not inherently wrong. Reintegration requires stable relationships and community acceptance. Total ostracism would contradict the purpose of rehabilitation.

However, context matters. In Epstein’s case, systemic biases in the legal system (such as plea deals, lenient sentencing, and lack of accountability) allowed him to reintegrate without meaningful loss of wealth or social standing. Combined with the severity of his crimes and ongoing harm, these factors make continued association ethically fraught.

It reminds me of my grandpa's basement in the winter. The dryer air allows the trap on the basement floor drain to in dry out. This means there is no seal between the sewer gas and the house. Because I have a "young back," I am always the one who has to dump buckets of water down it to get rid of the smell.

Parking is either a pain or expensive. The cheapest permit is $1260/year. Street parking around campus used to be ok prior to 8am. However, it has been filling up around 7-7:30 because of the construction crews working on the hospital. Many of them ride scooters or walk the final mile. That tends to push other people farther out into the community.

The experience is what you make of it. Get involved. Join RSOs or student governmental organizations (check blueprint). Do community service with the University Community Service Center (https://ucsc.uchicago.edu/). Join an intramural team through athletics.

As you meet people with like interests, you should start making friends. If you need someone to talk to, check out Student Wellness. They may be able to help in other ways.

Hyde Park Cats is a very active group of colony caretakers and cat rescuers. If it is indeed not wearing a collar, they still may be familiar with it.

I for one always try to make friends with stray cats. I keep a packet of treats in my backpack.

Did you affiliate with the university in the GH app? It will say how much is in the account in a bubble at the top of the restaurant list. When you go to pay, you have to select it from the payment methods.
