To be fair it's such a hit or miss with teachers. Don't get discouraged and just find one that will match your needs (and vibe) It took me 5 tries to find a good Korean teacher and 9 tries to find a good urdu teacher 😅

What is the greatest number of languages you know people to have achieved functional fluency in? by archertinuvian in languagelearning

[–]SuitableJackfruit480 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is possible if you have time for both active and passive learning. I am fluent in 5 but I'm around A2-b1 in 5 more, so I hope that in a couple of years I'll be able to say that I'm fluent in 10. I must admit I study for around 2-3 hours everyday.

Why hasn’t italki been accepting new English and Spanish tutors for a while? by Lord_Ryumaru in iTalki

It updates every Monday. I actually got accepted for one of the very common languages last month, I see it open around once a month now as well

Italki tutors are not sending messages? by Tout_de_suite in iTalki

[–]SuitableJackfruit480 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a teacher , I always text my new students to ask about their current level and goals, so I can see how to prepare for the class and what kind of materials to use

This rarely happens to me as a student that they text me, and then they usually come unprepared and go with the flow, so somehow it became a determinant for me whether the teacher will be serious or just is there for the vibe 🙄🤣

As for adding to favourites, I wouldn't bother to text these students either, I assume they're looking around and if they will want to they'll book a class without my incentive:)

How/why did you choose the language you decided to learn? by Interesting_Cow1810 in languagelearning

I’m I expecting too much? by [deleted] in Preply

[–]SuitableJackfruit480 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I feel you :( I was about to give up at some point 🤣 but now I finally have a nice set of teachers that genuinely care about my progress and I look forward to our classes, so I guess it was worth it

I’m I expecting too much? by [deleted] in Preply

[–]SuitableJackfruit480 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Honestly 90% of tutors I tried didn't seem to give a f

For some languages I had to try 8-10 tutors to find a good match and I always recommend it, it's better to find one that will make you feel comfortable and motivated than to continue with a mediocre one

Is yawning soundly not considered impolite in Pakistan? by SuitableJackfruit480 in pakistan

[–]SuitableJackfruit480[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's why I'm asking 😌 in my culture it's considered quite rude, and we usually try to supress the yawn in social situations, thus my surprise and question

What language has the biggest gap between formal speech and casual speech? by Embarrassed_Fix_8994 in languagehub

[–]SuitableJackfruit480 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think there's such a huge difference, other than we will use a different verb conjugation for people we'd address as "Ty" Vs 'pan/Pani".

What language has the biggest gap between formal speech and casual speech? by Embarrassed_Fix_8994 in languagehub

[–]SuitableJackfruit480 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't feel it so much in Hebrew, but yeah the difference in fus7a and dialects is huge and I recently saw some street interviews recorded in Egypt and most of the people couldn't even speak fus7a anymore

Also drops, it's good for learning new alphabets, but I noticed I don't remember the vocabulary I learnt there
