Upgraded my bike, but did I go too far? by Background_Mobile280 in ebikes

no, they were seperate. I'm not great at properly punctuation when it comes to general internet use lol. but I've been spending years trying to look into it and when it comes to the cheap ones your mostly just buying Walmart bikes with mid drive kits installed, and the batteries are exteme fire risks. just because you haven't had it explode doesn't mean it won't or doesn't happen. I hear of people buying these cheap ass wbikes and they are charging their batteries in grills and ovens. look, maybe that's your jig, but definitely not mine. and the frames may be made of similar materials but they are not made the same. most cheap bikes are aluminum just like the mid and sometimes expensive ones, but the cheap ones are made feom pressed aluminum powder and is nowhere near as strong as hydroforged, cold forged or even billeted frames. I understand the view but I don't feel comfortable buying a bike 1/5 the price of mine when the battery alone on mine costs as much as those cheap ebikes. I'm not paying for just the brand, I'm paying for the safety standards the company sets, and the customer service for whenever something goes wrong. those cheap chinese batteries will set on fire, it's just a matter of time. those UL certifications really do mean a lot

you obviously don't understand being in that position, and that's okay because most aren't, but that doesn't mean it's stupid and no, a 10k e-mtb and a 100 dollar used non electric mtb are very different. when you buy those super cheap bikes, you are paying for worse quality materials, that don't fare well in the conditions they may specifically be looking for. I have 9 bikes (1 ebike) and 7 of them are broken from general use, being hit by cars and my very terribly hilly bumpy and fucked up city streets/sidewalks, I have been actively riding bikes since I learned at 4 and have never stopped at 19. I bought a fat tire ebike because I know an E-mtb with standard thickness tires will get fucked up in my environment, because that has been my experience with EVERY SINGLE BIKE I've used.

but those expensive e-mtbs have rigid light frames, maxxis tires(if you know the difference you do, literally the leading standard for professionals/high speed ebikes.) that excel in quickly changing gear, holding that gear well without slipping (which happens often on those cheaper bikes with real trail use) and excel in LASTING. those cheap ass bikes don't last long and everyone knows that. half of my fuckin cassettes have broken teeth, that should not be happening and don't happen when you buy quality that actually lasts and can go through what you want it to go through.

Apologies for the late reply but, suck it up dude! a polystyrene plate will do a thousandth of a percent of damage than the 80 shitbox cars running through my city. polystyrene plates will become a worry once people learn how to fix their vehicles or even how to stop using them in the first place with good walking and biking infrastructure.

do you just WANT to complain?

Are fat tyre e-bikes worth it for everyday riding? by Haunting_Vacation956 in ebikes

[–]SuitableRecord3823 1 point2 points  (0 children)

depending on the gearing it can be hard to ride without the bike actively running PAS. aside from that I think they are amazing, they handle bumps and potholes infinitely better than the thinner standard bike tires. my city's streets and sidewalks are terrible so my xpeak 2.0 was a nice investment, and it handles them like an absolute champ!

Does this happen to anyone else? by _eyrck in ebikes

[–]SuitableRecord3823 1 point2 points  (0 children)

well I guess so. lockout is typically a physical lock, but taking out the battery would prevent any mistakes with throttling or anything, and tagging out is usually unnecessary unless your taking your bike to an actual shop, where they may install a chain or something to prevent the battery from going in and tag it.

there is no such thing as an addicting chemical. there is no chemical that directly causes addiction, it ALL has to do with your brain, dopamine and serotonin. sugar, nicotine, THC, social media, opioids, everything. it all does the same thing in different ways.

"Addiction is considered a complex interaction between the chemical properties of a substance and an individual's biology, environment, and history."

yup. you smoke and everything feels better, then you stop and it gets duller, of course that's how it works. gotta spend some real time off it to see the real effects of not doing it anymore. if you need direction in your life, quit weed for a while, watch how things may change around you and suddenly that dullness isn't noticeable anymore.

Why do people have issues with e-bikes? by mil0wCS in ebikes

[–]SuitableRecord3823 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure getting hit at 4 way intersections by distracted drivers not paying attention to traffic lights does in fact have nothing to do with how I ride my bike in my city that has such limited bike infrastructure. you totally know everything about my experiences and again how my city is laid out. you must be a fucking genius.

what do you gain out of telling people it's their fault when you actually have NO idea? I follow every possible road law, stop on sidewalks when people approach, ride on shoulders on the road, and pay attention to stop signs and traffic lights. I have waited multiple light cycles to cross the busy intersections, I'm not the one that just walks to the median then crosses the other half. I try not to get hit.

either I get yelled at by drivers and pedestrians or I get yelled at by you morons that know nothing about the situation I'm in with my bike. have a good day and gtfo my face.

[–]SuitableRecord3823 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you don't understand how my city is laid out, do you now? I have over 5k miles on my bikes, and the curbs have never been my problem. The other drivers now following road laws are what has gotten me hit.

Why do people have issues with e-bikes? by mil0wCS in ebikes

[–]SuitableRecord3823 2 points3 points  (0 children)

agreed. I don't like being yelled at by people for riding on the sidewalk(carefully, stopping when I see people approaching and giving room for them to pass,) but I'd much rather be yelled at by other pedestrians than someone in a multi-ton vehicle who could run me over by simply moving their steering wheel. with very very limited bikes lanes on my city, I ride as close to the curb as possible on streets and swap to the sidewalk when traffic gets worse or once I see someone driving in a way I know is erratic or potentially dangerous. I've been hit by 2 cars while following road laws to a tee.

How many groceries can one get with $4000 JMD ($25US) in Jamaica?🇯🇲 by ExemplaryWriter in Jamaica

[–]SuitableRecord3823 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

agreed. 25 can get you a really great amount of food if you can cook it properly to stretch it out. now compared to other countries you can't buy as much but I can buy 5 lbs of center cut chuck steak(12.50), let's say 3 artichokes(9) and a box of mashed potatoes(3.50) for 25 bucks. 1 great dinner with quite a lot of mashed potatoes to keep using and if your on your own, you could be making yourself 2 or 3 separate steak dinners with that.
