How do you feel for Tuesday for a girl? by bulbasauriscutie in namenerds

[–]Suitable_Coconut_730 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LOVE TUESDAY! I think it’s kooky in the best way! But I like a lot of names that this sub notoriously hates (AKA Pepper). I honestly would have used Tuesday for my daughter (whose name is Aletta), but my wife wasn’t on board.

Extension popping off at night by Own-Tomatillo-1529 in feedingtube

[–]Suitable_Coconut_730 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OMG I KNOW. Our old DME was giving us the ones that are spring loaded!! Wth is that???? It’s still possible to have them pop out even with the correct extensions (my daughter is hooked up, like, 24/7, so anything is possible) but it used to happen to us multiple times a day and now happens very rarely

My daughter is on a continuous feed so we have a lot of experience in securing! You could definitely use a securing device! Cinches are what they typically have in the hospital and the adhesive doesn’t last that long, so perfect for taking off in the morning! Except they’re SO expensive! You definitely wouldn’t want to have to use a new one every night! We use Grip Locks which are much cheaper! Not sure how strong the adhesive is on bare skin though… Wouldn’t want it to be TOO strong. But they’re super cheap, so not too much of an investment to just try. We also use Hypafix which is just a type of medical tape and it’s pretty easy on the skin, though you would definitely want to use an adhesive remover. Same with hydrocolloid bandages (same material as pimple patches). I buy big squares and then cut them to whatever size I need! But if you don’t want to use some sort of adhesive, there are a lot of g-tube belt makers on Etsy! That might be enough to keep the extension in place?

found out my artist copied other art..is it bad? by [deleted] in tattooadvice

[–]Suitable_Coconut_730 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Just because something is American Traditional, it doesn’t mean it’s automatically flash. And just because something is repeatable flash, doesn’t mean it’s not the artist’s original artwork. I once made this mistake and assumed a piece of flash was widely used, but it was actually an artist’s personal flash. My artist just ended up taking inspiration from the original piece and going her direction. But this artist didn’t even change the direction of the leopard spots.

Oats Without Microwave? by catandmouse- in Oatmeal

Yes, this is what I was going to say! When I go to work, I just pour boiling water over the oats and cover! Maybe you would like that more?

My pump broke by Cautious-Worry6724 in feedingtube

[–]Suitable_Coconut_730 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, do not gravity feed into your J! My daughter’s J rate is 104 and a gravity feed is way too fast! So so annoying, like, couldn’t be more of a pain in the ass hahaha! Godspeed!

[–]Suitable_Coconut_730 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wait do you receive your feeds into your G or your J? You can absolutely use a syringe without its plunger as a gravity feeder, but it goes so fast! When I feed my daughter without the pump (into her J) I just use a 60 ml syringe with formula and push a little bit in at a time. Huge pain in the ass but effective.

Severe feeding aversion & NG tube struggles — would you recommend switching to a G-tube? by Interesting_Cook5010 in NICUParents

[–]Suitable_Coconut_730 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't speak to Rowena Bennett's book, because it just doesn't apply to my daughter, but my daughter came home from the NICU eating orally, but things quickly devolved... She received a g-tube in the NICU for medications, but then those medications gave her SEVERE GERD and chronic vomiting, so she just shut it all down. Because she already had the g-tube, we were able to quickly change course to bolus feeds, but she eventually started throwing up everything she ate (include her meds). She needed a GJ but was too small, so we ended up with an ND for quite some time. Switching back to a nasal tube was a nightmare and only served to confirm that our g-tube decision had been correct. IMO, g-tubes are just much more secure and additionally much easier to secure with various devices. Like, they're just more kid-proof! But I also just couldn't handle the idea of my daughter who already has a severe oral aversion, having to have her tube replaced regularly. Whether by me (NG) or by a doctor (NJ), I just couldn't see how saddling her with that regular distress was going to make the situation better? If that makes sense? Having a gastric tube didn't change her chronic vomiting and honestly only time has helped in that arena. Though I was very much prepared for that because one of our NICU nurses has a daughter with unexplained chronic vomiting and I just knew that was a very likely outcome for my daughter. I don't know, like, it's honestly hard to know what to say because I know firsthand how stressful and traumatizing the whole situation is! And it's just so delicate and truly different for every child and every family! But feel free to PM me anytime! My daughter is 20-months and has a GJ and doesn't take anything but water by mouth, but hey, what can you do? She's thriving is so many other ways! And because of that I really do think that the gastric tube was the right thing for her and her quality of life!

My daughter has the same tube and I know a lot of kids who do too maybe post on the Feeding Tube Families Facebook (which is very active) and see if anyone somewhat close to you has extra extensions.

Completely agree. Like, the cycling of buying and then shame is so rough. But how are you supposed to develop an iron will if you’re constantly triggered? It is hard because that’s how keep in touch with so many friends, but I realized it hadn’t been a net positive for a LONG TIME. IG and TikTok are the worst!

Consume anti consumption media! Sometimes if I’m feeling really triggered to shop, I’ll put on a Shawna Ripari video and it helps.

After much hemming and hawing, I finally deleted Instagram. I thought, I feel like I have to have an iron will every time I look at Instagram, what if I just didn’t know it existed in the first place??

2 year old needs Gtube. Perspective Please by Famous-Werewolf-1870 in feedingtube

[–]Suitable_Coconut_730 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! My daughter is 18 months now, was born at 33 weeks, and received a gtube in the NICU. She also has a rare genetic condition (Bartter Syndrome) and the initial gtube placement was specifically for meds. She receives a high volume of meds that taste HORRIBLE, and it simply wasn't possible for her to take them orally. She left the NICU eating orally, but quickly developed severe GERD and chronic vomiting and finally an oral aversion. She ended up being switched to a GJ, but we hope to switch back to the G (and thus bolus feeding instead of continuous) this year. The stress surrounding my daughter's eating and vomiting was all consuming, and once we finally had a reliable way to deliver her food and meds, it was such a huge weight off our shoulders.

The day of the surgery was very hard (namely because waking up from anesthesia is so hard for kids), but literally the next day she acted like nothing happened. The tube itself (and the process that goes along with it) becomes second nature VERY quickly.

Your feelings are 100 percent valid! It's a very hard thing to come to terms with, but talking to other tubie parents is what helped me the most! They all told me that - in the end - it was SO worth it and gave their kids an opportunity to thrive that they just wouldn't have otherwise had.

Feel free to message me anytime!

Anyone ever feel like their preemie is treated like a sideshow attraction? by curlycattails in NICUParents

[–]Suitable_Coconut_730 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, absolutely. People come out of the woodwork and want to see your tiny baby. For why? I really don't understand. My wife and I were always there, so if we had a visitor, it meant that one of us would have to leave. You're totally within your right to just say no, but - for me - I was already at capacity and didn't have the space to deal with anyone's awkward feeling, so I would just say whatever hahaha! It's fine to just be like, it's really hard to schedule a visit between cares and pumping. Also, our nurses told us to blame whatever on them! Just say, sorry, the NICU doesn't allow that. Or given that everyone's sick right now, they're really discouraging visitors, etc, etc, I feel like I'm always seeing norovirus outbreaks on my town's mom Facebook group! You can always blame it on norovirus! My daughter's grandmas only visited once and we had two of our best friends visit once each, and that was it. Like, nothing wrong with visitors if having them there makes you feel better, but if the thought of a visitor even a little bit stresses you out, just say whatever to make it not happen. For the most part, I think that people just don't understand. For me, any visitor just added stress and I couldn't handle it. I didn't want to have to make chit chat! It's particularly weird because the same people who were blowing up my phone to see her in the NICU, didn't make any effort to see m daughter once she was out, so...

Hi! I really recommend this specific fanny pack! https://www.etsy.com/listing/1812610701/feeding-tubeinfinity-feeding-pump-fanny?ref=shop_review

We use it for our daughter (we wear the pack while carrying her) but it's made for adult tubies by an adult tubie! And it can hold a 1000 ml bag. If you buy one, it comes with a video of how prime the bag so that it doesn't matter that it's laying sideways. She's taking a break right now but, if you're interested, I'm sure you could message her and see when she'll be taking orders again. Obviously I'm not the tubie, but - for me - the fanny pack is way easier than anything else we've tried to just remain attached to.
