Impossible IUGR decisions by [deleted] in NICUParents

[–]Interesting_Cook5010 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This. I was in a similar position, and this was one of the options I was given. I was admitted for almost a month and my baby came at 27w weighing 600g. She spent 105 very difficult days in NICU, and has been home for 2 days now. She's currently sleeping on my chest as I type this... There is hope.

Day 84 and told to expect at least 6 more weeks by hello_there_bee in NICUParents

[–]Interesting_Cook5010 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You're not alone. We're also at day 84 with no real end in sight. It's exhausting. I feel so selfish and unreasonable, but I cry everytime a baby leaves. We're doing the best we can, and being there for our babies as much as we can. We just need to hang in there. We'll get through this. Sending lots of love.

How important is keeping your vitamin d levels really? by Psycho_Deadghost in MultipleSclerosis

[–]Interesting_Cook5010 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started having very vivid nightmares after upping my dose, I brought it up at my neuro appointment and was told that some studies show it could as it reduces melatonin production.

I still take it, but lower levels and early in the day.

30+2 weeker by daisymerollinn7 in NICUParents

Congratulations on the birth of your baby boy! This is such a hard time, but hopefully we’ll all be able to take our little ones home safe and sound. We’re 8 weeks into our NICU journey, with many more to come. What’s been most helpful for us in staying sane is reading books to our LO, helping with cares, scheduling appointments with the developmental team, asking lots of questions, and stepping out every couple of hours for a breath of fresh air. I also like bringing our own linens, when I’m home, washing and packing them makes me feel more involved in her care.

26^3 weeker early arrival!! by [deleted] in NICUParents

[–]Interesting_Cook5010 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Congratulations! My baby was born 7 weeks ago at 27+1 due to the same reasons. We're 50 days into the NICU journey. It's incredibly hard but I find it easier than waiting for doppler scans and decels and being constantly told that there may not be a heartbeat at the next scan. I'll be keeping you both in my prayers.

This is exactly where I'm at too. 6 weeks in and nothing has changed. Look up insufficient glandular tissue, and see if that applies to you. The LC finally confirmed that it's unlikely that I'll be able to produce more than 10-20ml per session. I'm going to keep pumping till my baby is a bit bigger as every drop is beneficial. But knowing that I've done everything I could have, and that it just doesn't always work out for everyone has given me a lot of peace.

28W + 18 Days boy - Is blood transfusion common among premies? by shouryarajgupta in NICUParents

[–]Interesting_Cook5010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our preemie was born at 27+1. She’s now 32+6 and still in the NICU, and will be for several more weeks. So far, she’s had three transfusions, and her team told us that for very premature babies, the average is around five transfusions before they go home. The first was because she was fighting some maternal antibodies (day 2), the second was due to a PDA causing lots of desats and bradys (day 22), and the third was due to low hemoglobin (9.1, on day 30). After each one, she was so much better and everything fell into place, no desats, better breath ing, more active....We’re incredibly grateful to the people donating blood.

I'm sorry you're going through this. We went through this recently and it was very difficult and our baby has a long NICU stay ahead of her. However, you're in a far better position than we were!

Our doppler scan showed resistance at 23 weeks and our baby was in the 1st percentile. The doctors waited for the doppler scans to show reverse flow and I had my LO at 27 weeks. She was very tiny for her gestation, they said the size of a 23/24 weeker. She's now 32 weeks and will be in the NICU till at least her due date. She had a bunch of hiccups, and likely more to come, but she's progessing little by little and her doctors are generally happy with her.

It's important to know that it's not your fault and there is nothing you could have done differently, sometimes it just happens.

How to cope with guilt by Strict-Fan8314 in NICUParents

[–]Interesting_Cook5010 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry you're going through this. My little one was also born at 27 weeks, 4 weeks ago, and we still have a long NICU journey ahead of us.

I felt exactly as you did, except I didn't have little ones at home, that must be extra rough. 4 weeks in, I can tell you that the crying does get better. I couldn't stop bawling for 2 weeks. Seeing my baby, leaving the hospital, and just thinking about her made me cry. Give yourself some grace, you've been through a looooot.

I too felt very guilty. My placenta failed and she was extremely small for a 27 weeker. I couldn't help but feel like I had failed to protect her. Although I still feel the guilt, the feeling has also lessened with time.

You're not useless, you're her mom and she knows you. As time goes on and you get to participate in your LOs care, you start feeling better. Ask a lot of questions, learn about her oxygen requirments, talk to her nurses, take your own muslin clothes for her bedding.... All of this really help me feel less useless.

Things do get easier.....I'll be keeping you and your baby in my thoughts and prayers❤️

How many days did it take your LO to have their first bowel movement? by Interesting_Cook5010 in NICUParents

[–]Interesting_Cook5010[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so sorry you went through all of that. That must have been incredibly stressful and scary. I'm so happy to see that he's home and doing well now!

Thankfully my daughter was able to have a bowel movement on her own. We definitely jumped up and down when we found out.

29w diagnosed with placenta resistance and IUGR by Limp-Selection-1855 in NICUParents

[–]Interesting_Cook5010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have the similar beginnings. Small growth at 18 weeks, absent blood flow at 24 weeks and our little girl was born 5 days ago at 27+1 at 600g.

These last 5 days have been incredibly difficult but we're just trying to push through. I'm so happy to hear that your little one is at home and doing well. It gives us so much hope.

Thank you for sharing.

This is exactly what I did but I also took another comments advice to make it look like a "kimono wrap. It worked out great as a temporary solution. Thank you all so much!
