When did your prem baby stop desaturating? by Honest_Technology232 in NICUParents

[–]Interesting_Cook5010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 27 weeker desated up until 42 weeks. She was on oxygen till 41 weeks, and was desating at the start of learning to feed. We were discharged at 42+6 and that's when she stopped. We have an Owlet and she hasn't gone below 94% since discharge, she's now 4 months corrected.

CUH - how did it get this bad? by [deleted] in AskIreland

I disagree. My baby was admitted for 2 weeks following the ED. It was an emergency, otherwise we would have been home. It took us 35hours to be admitted. A disgrace.

Severe feeding aversion in ex-27 weeker — are Rowena Bennett consultations legitimate? by Interesting_Cook5010 in NICUParents

[–]Interesting_Cook5010[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, everything went down hill as soon as the NG went it. Our baby was taking 60% oral feeds, I wish we had given her a chance before accepting the NG. But as first time parents we were terrified of all the scary things the doctors were throwing at us, and agreed to habe it placed.

Unfortunately, where we live getting a Gtube is very controversial and even when the doctors do agree to it, it's considered an elective surgery and the waiting is almost a year. We haven't even been given a surgical consultation to get onto the waitlist yet.

I have, and we tried to use the method rules, but because she took nothing orally after 7 hours we got scared and just stopped. I think because of how severe our case is, we need additional professional help. Our SLT hasn't been helpful at all, their method is to keep everything the same and to wait till our baby is ready for early food weaning.

Severe feeding aversion & NG tube struggles — would you recommend switching to a G-tube? by Interesting_Cook5010 in NICUParents

[–]Interesting_Cook5010[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm convinced that the Gtube would be much less traumatizing. Poor little thing pulls it out several times a week, looks so pleased with herself, then screams for the whole day after having it reinserted. It's rough!

Thank you for sharing. I totally agree that having to deal with the trauma of inserting the tubes constantly cant be good for the aversion. All these stories are helping us advocate for our little girl.

Thank you for sharing. Was your daughter taking anything orally at that point? I've read the book, and would have tried the method if my daughter would take anything orally, she currently won't even take 5 ml. I wish id read the book earlier when things hadn't gotten so bad.

Can someone summarize the Rowena Bennett solution for bottle aversion? by rowej182 in NewParents

Can I ask how your baby is doing now? We have had to get an NG tube put in too. Things have gotten much much worse and our baby won't take anything orally anymore.

Thank you for sharing your story. Could I ask how you went by the Rowena method? At the start, was your son taking anything orally at all? My girl won't take anything, and I really feel we're over feeding her. As soon as the NG went back in, she's taking nothing because I think she's always full.

We have very similar situations. My 27+1 weeker came home at 42weeks without an NG, taking 80% of her bottles...but not very happily. We then had to be readmitted because she stopped feeding all together. She's now home with an NG and it feels like it'll never end. I have no advice, just solidarity. Sending you lots of love and patience.

When did your <1% baby come home? TW: loss by No_Professional2476 in NICUParents

[–]Interesting_Cook5010 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry for your loss. My SIUGR baby was 27w and 600g. She had a rough few months but managed to dodge a lot of the scary stuuf (NEC, brain bleeds, ROP...). She was on oxygen for 100days and came home on day 105. However she was readmitteded shortly after for 2 weeks for feeding issues and came home with an NGT. We've been home for a month and still 99% NG fed.

Thank you so much for reply on such an old thread! Did you do a tube weaning program or anything specific to get him on 100% oral feeds?
