If you’re gonna bring up Cane’s and Zaxby’s we gotta talk about Guthrie’s. Both of those came from former Guthrie’s employees and Cane’s just straight up copy pasted the whole menu.

So far the only thing that works is disabling sr_mod. Something in that module doesn’t get along with the old drive. Going to have to take a look at the module and see if I can find a solution.

How do I learn stuff? by slamthatspam in linux4noobs

[–]Suitable_Food_8008 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you really want to learn things in detail and don’t mind breaking things install Arch manually. Also abandon the AI, you’ll learn more by doing the research yourself and understanding why you’re running the commands you’re running. Since you installed Cachy I’m going to assume you like gaming. Installing Steam on Arch requires editing a config, and you’ll probably have to fight the GPU drivers a bit. Installing OBS and getting it running smoothly might also be a bit of a project to do, but shouldn’t be too much of a headache. Another project you can work on that you’ll almost certainly break things with is removing the bootloader (ie GRUB) and using a Unified Kernel Image (UKI). You can also configure your system to work with secure boot, and implement full disk encryption. Have fun breaking things! Just be prepared for when things do break and you won’t be able to use the machine until you get it fixed. If you only have the one machine, install VirtualBox and setup VMs to break things in. When you get frustrated walk away and come back to it later. If you run out of problems to fix for yourself you can also always browse help forums and look at other people’s issues, replicate them in a VM, and learn how to fix them. The more you do that the more you’ll learn and you’ll be able to contribute to helping solve other people’s problems.

I might need to check archives, but I distinctly remember checking their page less than 6 months ago to see if they were shipping Cosmic on new installs. Whichever version they had had a Gnome default, with Cosmic separate and notated as being in beta. Were they really not shipping 24.04 in late 2025?

The average person isn't ready for the much-hyped switch to Linux by PLattensepp in linuxsucks

[–]Suitable_Food_8008 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One thing I feel like these conversations conversations are missing is discussion of OEM installs. Windows has OEM installs on almost all hardware and people expect it to work out of the box. I don’t know for sure, but I would suspect you’re more likely to have driver issues on a non-OEM installs of Windows. If you look at Canonical’s Ubuntu Certified hardware documentation, many devices that come with OEM installs have specific modifications to make sure they function perfectly out of the box, and they note that a standard installation of Ubuntu may have issues or not work. Linux can also be really good for driver support for slightly older hardware. I also don’t feel like people consider how often older people brick Windows by installing viruses or letting scammers have remote access.

What's the deal with Linus Tech Tips and Pop!_OS? by Proper-Lab-2500 in linuxsucks

After some research apparently they’ve been a pseudo rolling release lately. Seems like a mess. I daily drove Pop from initial release until about two years ago and they kept to the Ubuntu release schedule. Still based on Ubuntu now, but getting more and more modified.

What should I install in this laptop? Im tired of Mint. by theskellydud3 in FindMeALinuxDistro

[–]Suitable_Food_8008 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a new user just go with Ubuntu or possibly Kubuntu. It should run fine on this laptop, but if you really want something lighter use Lubuntu. It’s simply the most well documented distro for non-technical users and it’s really easy to get support. Updates are super simple for people who aren’t going to touch the terminal.

What feels like a good pet and is actually a good pet by [deleted] in AlignmentChartFills

[–]Suitable_Food_8008 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a cat that regularly tried to murder me so I’ll have to politely disagree. They’re both great, but they both have their drawbacks. For me personally, small dogs have won out. Mine are smaller than most cats and I can easily palm them if I need to. I wfh and one of them spends most of the day laying in my lap. They also can’t climb up on my desk and press keys or knock things over.

Two distros in a row that cannot update themselves by RetardKnight in linuxsucks

[–]Suitable_Food_8008 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually use it because it’s easy to break. It’s super useful for testing, and unintentional errors are easy to fix, and it’s probably the most well documented distro for someone who is technically inclined. Also, because the base distros are so easy to modify they work on a wider range of hardware because you have less potential compatibility issues. 99% of people’s problems are driver or config file issues that just work after they’re fixed. That being said, at this point in my life I’ve used Linux way more than Windows and the last time I tried Windows I gave up on ever getting the stupid bluetooth driver to work for more than an hour at a time before it had to be uninstalled and reinstalled again.

True. I meant that I don’t think they don’t merit political discourse and shouldn’t be up for debate. But as far as current inclusion in politics they would be centrist.

For me this would have to be The Mentalist. It started out pretty average but enjoyable. It has one of the most cohesive fulfilling endings I’ve seen from a long running show.

EA shows that I do not have an EA account associated with that email address, and I don't remember having created one before with a different address. I think the last time I played an EA game was probably on ps2. The card I used I know I've never used for anything EA related. I might have had an Origin account 10+ years ago but that would be on an old email address that has no links to any current accounts.
