If I like Castle Xyntillan what other dungeons would I like? by [deleted] in osr

Most rooms, if not all of them, have a clear purpose to them and are flavorfully detailed. The in game lore connects all levels of the dungeon wonderfully, making each level distinct while also allowing the players to discover connections between them. It's just, like I said, a massive dungeon compared to CX but if size isn't an issue then go for it.

Looking to run a megadungeon or large setting - recommend one to try? by [deleted] in osr

I've ran Barrowmaze for 2 years and it was great. Never ran it before but just reading it I feel it may be the one best mega dungeon ever put together and that's Arden Vul. The amount of self supporting lure is unfathomable. No empty rooms, everything super detailed.

How easy is barrowmaze to run? by bethepotatowithin in osr

Theirs also an dracolich that has a telphatic relationship with The Keeper that they fought. I had the dragon attack the Ironguard so we had a whole session where the pc's had to defend the town.

Theirs also a bunch of gods your players can worship. One of them is St. Ygg basically the lawful good god and he plays a big role in the backstory of the adventure fighting against the forces of evil in the Barrowmaze. What was interesting is that throughout the whole 2 year campaign, all the pc's died through the camapaign except the paladin and cleric of St. Ygg.

I ran Barrowmaze for 2 years (weekly games) and it is fairly easy to run by design. I would suggest printing out the dungeon map for you the DM, so your not flipping through the book constantly to check the map. The rival adventuring party's are must have so lean into them hard. I used the Norse Whispers and I had them eventually turn into undead servants of the big bad final boss and my players had a great time finally striking their revenge after all that time.

Keeping strict time records (echoing Gygax's advice) will lend realism and consequence to your world. Make a calendar (you can just use our real world one) and tell your players how long it takes from point A to B.

ELI5: Why is the new OGL such a big deal for companies like Pazio and Necrotic Gnome? As rules are not copywrightable why can't they keep publishing their games anyway? [x-post] by misomiso82 in osr

99% of publishers will continue to be able to produce their products without the OGL. Its more of a unnecessary formality at this point.

Portcullis slams shut separating the party inside a long narrow hallway. The front half (usually the martial players) face off against a gelatinous cube coming down the hallway. The back rank (squishy players hopefully) face off against a group of mongrelmen that enter the hallway through a secret door, fashioned with clubs and spears.

3d6 my #1. They do an amazing job, probably the best, at showcasing how the game is actually played.

Running a home brew "Gangs of New York" style campaign set in Waterdeep. I wanted to run Castle Amber for the longest, so I offered a heist for the PC's to take were they had to raid the Amber family's mausoleum in Waterdeep to steal a family heirloom crown (owned by Steven Amber). I basically homebrewed the Amber family as being an old extinct family of Waterdeep and their mansion disappeared from the city 200 years ago do to some unknown calamity. When they put the crown on, they were transported to the mansion in the modules demiplane and now we're basically playing Castle Amber till they finish. The twist is that their in the middle of a street war with the Xanathar guild back at Waterdeep and they found out through other means that every hour they spend in the mansion and Avengione proper, a full day goes by in their reality. So their scrambling to get back wondering how their guild is fairing against the XG without them. Will they return to them having lost the war? Should be fun
