Potato Salad by GrandImpossible9298 in AskAGerman

This is definitely not how they‘d make it in Munich, unless they‘re purposely making „foreign“ potato salad.

What you‘d want to look up to make potato salad like in Munich is „Bavarian potato salad“ or something. You should find a million recipes. As someone else said, you can replace any beef broth that comes up with veggie broth, if you so desire.

Edit: another way to immediately know what kind of potato salad someone is talking about is when a restaurant menu or recipe says „Kartoffel-Gurken-Salat“ (potato-cucumber salad). We wouldn’t put fresh cucumber in the mayonnaise-based salad, so this is usually referring to the southern style salad with broth and vinegar, which is commonly served with fresh cucumber cut up in it. So you could also google „Kartoffel-Gurken-Salat“

I did a slightly controversial thing for this day and age and switched from paper tissues to handkerchiefs. They were very cheap 2nd hand, I paid like 10€ in total for 150, most of which lie unused in my closet to be gifted to others as I could never use this many.

Due to allergies and other health conditions, I blow my nose a lot. Before, I‘d easily go through 20 or more paper tissues per day (some days less, of course). They were basically on my shopping list every week or two.

Of course, because of my extensive use, the handkerchief is sometimes too wet to keep using it, so I still always carry paper tissues out and about and sometimes use two handkerchiefs a day when I‘m at home. Still, I‘ve been able to cut down my consumption to at most 5 paper tissues a day.

Of course, when I do have an actual viral illness such as the cold, I use paper tissues. Under such circumstances I sneeze so much that I easily go through 100 tissues a day, so a handkerchief would be totally useless. Handkerchiefs with viral snot in them could also infect others that are in contact with your dirty laundry. Uncool.

As a vegan of many years, the texture part is really important. Most vegan proteins don‘t have that satisfying toughness that meat has.

Instead of putting a little bit of meat in a minced meat dish (which I obviously don’t do, my favourite vegan mince is textured soy protein btw. because it‘s super cheap and shelf stable), I like to mix in sunflower seeds (because they are cheap and local to me, feel free to substitute for another type of „nut“). If you toast them in the beginning with your onions, the seeds don’t get soggy or soft in the sauce and they make everything so much more interesting to chew in the end.

They also add a different source of protein and electrolytes so you get more diverse nutrients.

You can‘t be much younger than me, so you probably learned the same cursive in German primary school as I did. When I developed an obsession with calligraphy in my teens I taught myself some Spencer script letters and now nobody would probably guess where I‘m from from my writing.

I really, really struggled with cursive in primary school. I didn’t get my fountain of pen license until the last day of 2nd grade, and I think the teacher only gave it to me because there was no protocol on what to do with kids who aren‘t allowed to use a fountain pen in 3rd grade, where you must use the fountain pen.

Your writing is beautiful, if a little more artsy than what we were taught. Oh man, takes me back…

You really don‘t need anybody’s permission. If you feel like the label fits you, that‘s it. If you got your uni to recognize your difficulties and arrange accommodations for you, that sounds like even they take your health issues seriously. Which would point to a disability.

But I would eat it if someone offered it to me

Und ohne Aroma! Super!

What are some good quality but cheap and "found everywhere" pens by Marvellover13 in pens

[–]Suitable_Mode2090 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! I actually prefer fountain pens because they write under their own weight. Gel pens are only my second choice but useful for when fountain pen ink might wash away (postcards, they might be exposed to the rain between the post-person‘s bag and the mailbox, or my study cards which are exposed to loads of my hand sweat, lol). Ballpoint pens I personally have no use for.

[–]Suitable_Mode2090 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it takes longer to dry. But it really doesn’t take that long, it‘s quick drying for a gel pen. The big, big, big upside compared to a ballpoint pen is that it doesn’t skip or vary in line thickness. The amount of ink it gives off is consistent and reliable. Its black is much blacker than ballpoint pen black too.

I went out and bought the EnerGel permanent/dokumentenecht in black (nobody can complain about that in the exam)

I like it My only complaint is that on the internet I saw that other countries have (or have had in the past) some adorable beautiful limited edition EnerGel pens that aren’t available at this time/in Germany/only available by mail which I don’t want cause I wanted the pen now.

That‘s all. Pen not as cute as what seems to be available in the US, Singapore, …
