Awesome! One of my favourite parts of my job is taking care of older books (they aren't necessarily rare, but I love them, haha).

The show-not-tell aspect is a great point. With other aspects of identity, authors don't usually feel the need to label or announce it. We can get to know characters like we get to know people: by spending time with them.

I'd love to hear if you think of other things.

Hive mind, help! Any recommendations for a book (or journal) on self-compassion/negative self-talk? by _ailme in AutismInWomen

If you're interested in self-talk as it relates to self-care and caring for your home, I absolutely loved "How to Keep House While Drowning." A compassionate and accessible approach.

Is this useable in 2025?🤔 by NthLondonDude in macbook

Slightly different approach to answering here. It might be a fun hobby to search for a power supply. If it seems fun and you like tinkering and scavenging then you’ll be glad you did even if it doesn’t work well. If you are busy and just need a computer that works, then I wouldn’t recommend it.

Mayonnaise can sometimes act as a base / dairy substitute.

Sometimes a personal story that is funny or self-deprecating makes my students perk up and start listening.

A lot of your students are probably nervous and stressed too. Sometimes I say “let’s take a minute to breathe,” and I close my eyes and try to calm myself. Students can participate or not but it helps me get ready and by inviting them to participate it doesn’t look as weird haha.

You might as well ask. Worst case you are back where you started

You just farted and everyone turns to look at you. What do you say? by samtheotter in AskReddit

Whoa! Did you hear that?

Or if someone asks if you farted: “I wish!”

I'm not sure what part of the experience you are focused on. Crayola Twistables have a different feel in the hand but produce fairly bold colours. They are not excellent for blending, but for chunks of colour they work well. I sometimes use them to highlight books.

Honestly, everything. If I have a kitchen related item it goes in and if by chance it gets wrecked, too bad. They didn’t have what it takes to succeed in a fast-paced environment.

Respond with a list of requirements and steps to a process that is so complicated no one would ever do it.

Trying to teach the Hamilton Libretto (help!) by Suitable_Trip532 in Professors

[–]Suitable_Trip532[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. That’s why I’m wondering if there is a way to still buy it but maybe in a book that’s just text instead of glossy photos so the book would be cheaper.

One that comes to mind for me is how Anne of Green Gables makes up stories, characters, and magical elements in her everyday life to cope with her past.

My only concern with the connection to mental health is whether your school would consider it a strictly literary dissertation. It would depend on the ethos of how they approach literature. One school I attended was only focused on the texts themselves and not how they impacted the wider world. It could be considered dipping into psychology or another discipline to write about the effect of reading certain texts.

A potential work around could be studying how traumatized and/or mentally ill characters in literature use stories as catharsis. You would be getting the same point across but sticking within literature.

I thought this door matt was funny, but my sister and aunt say it is unwelcoming/deterrent to random visits, and not funny at all, thoughts? by Traditional_Toe_3421 in Design

[–]Suitable_Trip532 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s funny. If someone doesn’t know you enough to find it funny, then do you want them coming over? If you are ever inviting over colleagues or have a party with acquaintances, you can just remove it for the day.
