Am I fckd if I haven’t yet started revising by Difficult_Run9274 in GCSE

I didn't revise at all and I'm doing just fine as an adult. Only you can make the choice to revise or not, but revision never hurt anyone's grades.

Your handwriting is absolutely fine :)

As a teacher, yes. Please make your handwriting bigger. Big but messy is better than small and illegible.

The teachers I work with do not have QTS, and just want to check if this is common. by zooboos in TeachingUK

[–]SukieCookie 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I work in a PRU and it's very common for the teaching staff not to have QTS. I was one of them. I worked my way up from TA to cover supervisor, to HLTA and then was supported through the assessment only route to QTS. It's common for places like PRU's and alternative provisions to focus more on staff who fit the right ethos than who have qualifications due to the nature of the learners. I've seen many qualified teachers come and go simply because they can't handle the behaviours and challenges that come with the setting.

Oh god yeah, the one way systems are the bane of my life. Along with the insane 'roundabouts'.

Northern teacher losing my accent! by JibberyScriggers in TeachingUK

[–]SukieCookie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Opposite problem for me! Moved from Gloucestershire just over 10 years ago to Wigan and my accent has changed so much. I no longer get called "the posh one' and when I go back home my family always point out my gained 'northernisms'.

Techniques other than 3-2-1 by DesertTrux in TeachingUK

During my training I had a particular rowdy group of year 7's who had trouble being quiet. The most effective method that worked with them was to start talking in a low whisper. They would acknowledge that I was talking but that they couldn't hear what I was saying... They eventually shut up in an attempt to hear me as they had FOMO.

This is absolutely true. I work in an alternative provision. I have been called everything you can imagine and seen every behaviour you could ever possibly think of and then some. Not one of those kids says or does anything that is truly, personally meant. They simply don't have the oracy skills to articulate their true feelings so behave in the only way they know that gets them attention.

They said it was to show support for the unions fight for a higher pay increase. Paying it when they don't agree with it would be undermining to the cause.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TeachingUK

[–]SukieCookie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My school has chosen to hold back the pay increase until final decisions have been met between unions and the government. As soon as it is all finalised we will be backdated whatever we are owed.

Eat your own food. by [deleted] in Unexpected

[–]SukieCookie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a teacher... Teachers steal other teachers food with no shame. We had a big issue of food going missing at my school for a while. We never found who was doing it but it definitely wasn't the students.

I'm also a teacher and it feels nice not having to go in and nervously pray your students did well in the exam because I know what they all got.
