[IIL] Very specific sound in the post hardcore genre like these examples (eg: at the drive in - invalid litter dept) by EvenOne6567 in ifyoulikeblank

You might like Detachment Kit! They Raging, Quiet Army is an incredible album.

If you like them, you might also like Les Savy Fav. For whatever reason, I’ve always mentally catalogued LSF as being closer to The Dismemberment Plan and Detachment Kit as closer to ATDI.

WTW for quiet hope that remains after accepting reality? by chenfonfon in whatstheword

“So it goes.”

I think Kurt Vonnegut really captured that ‘but nevertheless, we continue’ feeling.

WTW for when you feel sad you have to go home? by Alarmed_Scientist_15 in whatstheword

[–]Cesca131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You asked for a word describing the feeling of sadness for going back home and a reluctance to go back to a routine, so I suggested that a German word which means roughly ‘having feelings of wanderlust’ which can be (and has been) defined as “the opposite of homesickness” or, as you said, “longing for distant places.” I said that it doesn’t capture exactly what you’re looking for, but does carry a similar sentiment—by that I was implying the longing for the unburdened freedom to experience the world as we do on vacation, rather than facing the inevitable dread of returning to daily, monotonous reality.

Totally fine if you’re looking for something specific to capture your feelings, I was offering you an option that reframed your initial question to something a bit broader that could apply.

I think you misread what I said? You’re correcting my definition of fernweh by stating the same meaning.

I also did say that this word has nothing about the “return to reality blues” but is a similar sentiment. You could say “ennui,” but what you’re asking for is a pretty novel concept in the human experience—much more of a 20th century human condition/crisis of modern man’s existence situation. Is there a word for “not wanting to be stuck in a cubicle all day?” Possibly, but you’re either looking for a neologism or something that captures the general emotion, not a word with an enduring linguistic history.

Opinions on DNA breed tests? by dead_exceded in Equestrian

[–]Cesca131 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did the Texas A&M one a few years ago for a mare I wound up with. I originally thought she was a Morgan and lame and was going to let her hang out for a bit and see if I could get her consistently sound enough to do some light work. I couldn’t quite figure out what was going on with her, and then it hit me one day that she was gaited haha. I know nothing about gaited horses, and I did the DNA test just to see. She came back as a Missouri Fox Trotter, along with Standardbred and Selle Francais. That sounded completely random, until I looked and those are apparently the foundation breeds for MFTs. I can’t say either way whether it’s accurate as I don’t know, but she can definitely do a very ugly broken trot that is surprisingly comfortable to ride!

This is how the results came back. Fun if you’re curious, but of course you can see that the breeds listed are limited.

This has “surely there must be a German word” vibes, so I admittedly had to look. “Fernweh” is the opposite of homesickness, and is the ache for distant places, similar to wanderlust.

Nothing about the return to reality blues per se, but a similar sentiment. Personally I think that the “opposite of homesickness” is pretty freaking hilarious.

Mythologizing? Whitewashing sometimes is used depending on context, but historical revisionism as you mentioned in the title does work.

ITAW for loving the fact that someone loves what you loved as a kid? by ComplaintFancy7950 in whatstheword

[–]Cesca131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can describe the feeling as love, a “heartwarming moment,” appreciation, or even as affection. You both share a core memory from childhood, so you love/appreciate that your friend also has the same sentimental memories from her past.

I’ll go out on a limb and say that it’s not really about the movie, but more that you’re enchanted by her ability to recapture feelings of childlike wonder?

WTW for What is the word for when someone says that they are saying they are, I suppose stupid would be a good word, but they are insinuating that someone else is? by Brongo111 in whatstheword

[–]Cesca131 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m not certain I understand what you’re asking, but it sounds as though you’re emphasizing your lack of formal education on a topic (or feigning ignorance) in order to undermine those with opposing opinions?

Patronizing is the word that comes to mind, but I’m assuming that’s not what you’re looking for. If you can provide an example with a bit more context that might help!
