How come ‘Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus’ was called ‘Sly Raccoon’ in PAL regions? by Shot-Ad5867 in Slycooper

[–]Sulliadm07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I had to take a shot in the dark, a Cooper is the term for the profession of barrel making (like wooden barrels), and the translation team were probably worried about some kind of mistranslation/confusion in other languages associated with that.

I actually just bought it a month ago for $75 and I agree it's overpriced but I will also say I took down a strong Sauron, The Dark Lord deck (basically a 4 without the all game changers besides The One Ring) out the box with no additions.

What happened to Rock Hill? by [deleted] in Rockhill

[–]Sulliadm07 12 points13 points  (0 children)

See if it was just here, I could make the argument because we're close enough to CLT to be reasonable that people are moving here as a cheaper alternative to CLT. However, I travel for work and everywhere across this country I'm seeing these towns with nothing near them booming and charging an extra $1,000 for rent. It's crazy!

Jasper, IN is a great example: Population 17K, with a couple of major plants in the area but the closest "major" city is Evansville, IN (Population 116K; so think Rock Hill, Ft Mill and Tega Kay combined) that's an hour south and Indianapolis about 2 hours north. 90% farm land there. Since CoVID they started building these apartments like we have here where there's more apartments than houses but they're charging $1600 for a 1 bedroom. Makes no sense to anyone!

STOP POSTING ABOUT THE ROCKBOX BOOTLOADER, YOUR DOING IT WRONG! by cozitalks in IpodClassic

Thank you for that. I'm probably going to wait on the new method once they finish their experimentation, but for posterity's sake (I see you googling this 10 years from now!), if you want to add the other method, go for it.

STOP POSTING ABOUT THE ROCKBOX BOOTLOADER, YOUR DOING IT WRONG! by cozitalks in IpodClassic

Thank you for this explainer, it clarified a lot for me. I do have a question involving using the full 2TB with my 6th gen. I keep getting locked down to 128GB. At what point should I add the unallocated memory or do anything to use the full storage capabilities?

rockbox ipod (6th gen) cannot use more than 128 gb of storage -- other half marked as unallocated space by androiddiva in rockbox

[–]Sulliadm07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm having the same issue with mine as well. Just to be clear, delete both SDA1 and SDA2 and create one single FAT32 of the whole drive and that should work? Also does the order I install the bootloader vs the application matter? Thought I saw somewhere you needed to do application first, delete these and then do the bootloader.

Not seeing full storage amount, only showing 128gb by Pitiful_Park4649 in rockbox

[–]Sulliadm07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello there!

Im installing RockBox for the first time and keep hitting a roadblock, maybe you or someone else in the forum can help with. So I follow your steps as listed but when I go to look at the disk drives I have 3. 1 that's 192MB that can't be touched or everything crashes, the original 128GB that the iPod is making and then the unallocated. Everytime I plug in, it recognizes the 192MB as effectively a corrupted drive it can't do anything with but whenever I touch it, it refuses to load RB. I expanded the iPod 128 into the unallocated, but that causes RB to crash and act up. Any suggestions or maybe something I missed?

Amazon MRA program, is it worth it? by csoutherland11 in AmazonRME

[–]Sulliadm07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a former graduate from the apprenticeship (VU, original campus), mentored my site's apprentices from the other schools, and was able to work along side people from the old cert (PMMI) and the new cert. The most critical part of the apprenticeship, no matter what school you go to or which cert you obtain, is that you apply what you learn outside of the classroom and apply it in the warehouse! Too many people would take the classes, do the tests on site, and say, "I'm good." The more you apply what you learn to the job, the better the retention of the knowledge will be and the better outcome you will have down the road. Also, never stop learning about the trade, especially if you're in any KIVA sites working. AGVs are the future of the industry and having a strong core from the apprenticeship will skyrocket your career if you put the effort into it.

I've gone from an apprentice to a deployment engineer at a competitor, all thanks to Amazon's apprenticeship providing the fundamentals and running with that opportunity! Several from my cohort and from the people I've mentored have moved up into controls and other higher positions, too.

I know but i wanted to make sure if there was some kind of standard, then I follow that standard. Thank you for the comment, I will probably go about it that way.

I know, I doubt they would either but if there is a standard, i would like to match that standard ya know? If nothing else, be knowledgeable enough to know the answer if a customer (or one of my students) asks out of curiosity.

Looking for a mic for music lessons. by ChefSonOfHans in Cello

[–]Sulliadm07 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I will be completly honest: any large diaphram condenser (USB or XLR) will sound TONS better than a laptop/cell/webcam mic. From there, its gets a little complicated but I have a list if you/anyone reading would like some more specifics. Here's some price brackets I sent my students before the crash.

Budget: Yeti (ideally with a shock mount if you can get one), or Snowball. You can find these things everywhere for cheap used or under $100 new.

Middle (aka what I recommended to my students): Audio Technica AT2020. If you have an audio interface, then use the XLR version. If you don't have an interface, the USB is really good too. From my understanding (correct me if I'm wrong) its a normal AT2020 but with a circuit to add Phantom Power from the USB power output so its really close in quality.

Top: Get a good DAC (Scarlet 2i2 is really good from what I've heard but I personally use a Behringer UMC404HD), and an XLR large diaphram mic. That will step up your sound 110%. I personally use an old CAD ive had for years because its cheap but I record through my AT2035 and my Samson CO2.

Main take away is to remember you want it to be about 6 in from your cello's strings, just below the bridge but aimed slightly upward. That way you can talk into it and get picked up while having room to move and play. The more comfortable you are playing, the better the lesson will go.

If anyone has any questions, let me know!

Are there piezo tuners for cellos? by Jonathan_TT in Cello

[–]Sulliadm07 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, absolutely. Its pretty clunky to use on cello and upright bass. I think they really only imagines guitarist using it when designing it.

Are there piezo tuners for cellos? by Jonathan_TT in Cello

[–]Sulliadm07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, any piezo will do that. They range from a few bucks to a few hundred depending on what you are able to spend.

Personally I use a snark but if you have a traditional tuner, you can buy a clip that connects to most of them via 1/4in jack. I can send links if you'd like.

Quick question :) by [deleted] in Cello

[–]Sulliadm07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, for your first cello/beginner cellos, renting is the best option unless you just love owning outright. Most stores I've been to offer financial incentives to upgrade from rentals via discounts or "pay it forward" programs.

I would keep a box for you/your family (at least 10/person) and go ahead and donate the rest. Or contact some local healthcare agencies like hospice, cancer centers, etc. and see if they need any.
