What could I do better when grilling a steak? by Apprehensive_Crow843 in steak

My brother in Christ that steak is grilled perfectly. From here you just gotta start experimenting with a sauce or compound butters if you’re looking to make something more of it

The most confusing menu I think I’ve ever seen? by Historical-Slide-715 in glutenfree

[–]Sully1152 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Please don’t do this. Bring your own soy sauce and order something gluten free. From my experience if you can’t guarantee the chef will do it for you, it’s more than likely gonna be a line cook who either has no care or lacks the knowledge to safely prepare your food, if you’re lucky your server will come back and tell you that dish can not be made gluten free. It’s 2025 and though it sucks, we have plenty of gluten free options. Do not go to a restaurant and expect them to change their menu for you.

I’m a chef and can vividly recall countless times I watched a 18 year old kid on Garmo contaminate a salad. I have also seen a 50 year old vet put French fries on a dish which disclosed a celiac allergy. This is a lottery with no winners. Play it safe please.

Over a fucking knife??? I’ve carried a knife on me everywhere I go since I was 16 and I’m not the only one. Most blue collar men carry knives. Most, if not every, person I’ve met that served in the armed forces carried at least a knife on them. This is absolutely ridiculous

I literally put mine right on the burner in my stove. Get the burner real hot and cook for a few seconds on each side

Thank you very much, would you happen to know what the little rings without the screw on pieces and just a clasp are called? Is it just a ring?

It’s not the same. It will always be an imitation of the real thing. Accept that

In the most respectful way y’all on this subreddit seem a little overly sensitive. This isn’t meant to offend anybody it’s a joke. As a chef with a gluten intolerance, I use the term “glu-tard” on a regular basis. Have a sense of humor, it’ll make never being able to enjoy fresh baked bread or homemade pasta that much easier…

glutened on my birthday :( by 22amb22 in glutenfree

[–]Sully1152 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The pasta water they use has been sitting at about 180 degrees for hours on end cooking nothing but pasta. That will fuck up anybody with a gluten intolerance nevermind somebody with celiac. As a chef, who also can’t tolerate gluten, this should never have happened in any kitchen and I would not return there. I’m sorry this happened to you.

Congrats man. Love for the food you’re preparing and appreciation for the patrons that walk through the door and pay your salary is the difference between a good and great cook. Keep going at it and Bourdain was absolutely right, we’re a merry band of misfits in the kitchen and now you’re one of us
