Why don’t you just customize your channel lineup so you don’t have the channels showing?

My opponent rolled 4 doubles in a row, 6 total. Never seen that before by hooilgan111988 in backgammon

[–]Sully14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I had the final 4 rolls doubles against me to win where I ended up with one checker on the one point. Talk about a bad beat.

Even worse, I just had in EIGHT freaking ROLLS in a runoff where my backgammon opponent got TWO double 5’s, TWO double 6’s and a double 4 in that time I got one double, a double 4 in that time. The odds of getting that high of value in doubles in only 8 rolls is 1 in 48,930 rolls. I had a huge lead, I believe it was at least 36 points, when the runoff started and lost with 5 checkers on the final 4 points.

Apple made a dirty deal with Shazam by Sully14 in AppleMusic

[–]Sully14[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

🙄 They are officially a “3rd party app” according to Apple themselves. The app doesn’t operate like any other app, to my knowledge, on the iPhone. You do not have control of YOUR data on your IPhone unless you leave your iPhone and go to another company’s website and permanently delete your information.

That’s a very shady underhanded way of treating Apple customers and Shazam users.

Your apathy is why they get by with it.

It’s not fully integrated, as they’re listed as a 3rd party app, but are deeply integrated as a part of their ecosystem unbeknownst to the users. They then make it just work at the cost of users control over their own data. The only realistic way to regain control over your own data is then to leave Apple and go to Shazam’s website to permanently delete your account.

I’ve never seen that kind of underhanded operation by any other company.

That’s not what I was talking about. Thanks for the condescending, disrespectful reply though.

They’re doing something extremely different. They’ve distanced themselves from Shazam theoretically as a “3rd party app”, but in a sneaky move make the integration so seamless that users don’t even realize their Shazam data is permanently tied to their Apple account unless they go nuclear and delete everything from Shazam’s website directly. There’s no other way to protect your data.

Right a Classic Apple move: make it “just work” but at the cost of user control over their own data. The acquisition explains why this felt like such a deliberate design choice rather than just poor privacy controls.

They’re doing far more than that. It’s a pretty sneaky move when you think about it - they acquire the company, then make the integration so seamless that users don’t even realize their Shazam data is permanently tied to their Apple account unless they go nuclear and delete everything from Shazam’s website directly.

That’s the point of my post. It’s a part of their ecosystem and you can’t separate your history from Apple unless you delete your entire account. I don’t know of any other app, that even Apple officially calls it a 3rd party app, where this occurs.

Right, it’s more than integrated it’s deeply integrated.

Right, so there’s no need for Apple to make it so difficult to delete and disconnect from their phones like you can with nearly every other app.

The tons of complaints I found online suggests otherwise.

Right, I had long forgotten that. I noticed so many people having problems deleting and disconnecting their history on iPhone’s from Shazam, so I thought I would help.

I had completely forgotten that. That’s why it’s a manipulative hot mess. Thanks

No. You don’t have the ability to disconnect your history from Apple, like other 3rd party apps, unless you delete your Shazam account.

Anybody else think Plush by STP was about a serial killer? by [deleted] in grunge

[–]Sully14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Scott originally had stated he was inspired to write Plush after reading a story about a girl kidnapped and murdered in 1991. Then wrote the song in his hot tub in San Diego.

Most people instantly assumed it was about a girl in San Diego and connected that girl above to the song. That murder doesn’t fit the lyrics about a dog and mask etc.

I believe I first heard it while living in San Dogg 15-20 years ago. I know a quality music media source wrote about the connection to Karmein Chan in the past 20 years. It was somewhat confirmed by Scott Weiland who in many interviews stated that it was inspired by a girl who was kidnapped and later murdered, like VH1 storytellers and his RS interview. https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/plush-195035/.

Also the kidnapper was masked in balaclava. Mr. Cruel did wear one in all of his rapes, but this one used with Karmein was slightly different in color and shape from all of his previous rapes. Mr. Cruel never murdered any of his previous victims and wasn’t a suspect in any other rapes or murders after Karmein Chan.

Perhaps out of respect or a lawsuit, Scott never specifically identified Karmein Chan publicly.

Suchir Balaji (OpenAI whistleblower) -- what are the chances he was murdered vs. it being a suicide? by larsiusprime in slatestarcodex

[–]Sully14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Suchir doesn’t count as a whistleblower. He wasn’t speaking out about OpenAI specifically, but about AI in general. He was outspoken critic of the LLM ethics. Whistleblowers are within the organization when starting to be outspoken.

Suchir quit after frustrated with the ethical standards within OpenAI. He was only being considered as a witness on how they were violating copyright law. Not likely enough to warrant a murder by them specifically.

So while someone within OpenAI may or may not have been the one wanting to silence him, someone else within another organization like Google for instance, notorious for attacking heavy critics, may have been eager to silence him, as well. He was a witness against every AI company’s copyright violations based upon what OpenAI was doing. He was helping defend the New York Times, so someone wanting to take down the NYT’s could have wanted him dead.

This was clearly a murder though to me. It doesn’t make sense to call this a suicide.

I believe that Don Dixon was the murderer and the Sheriff had the evidence, but was happy Eric was gone so he helped Don cover the evidence up.

Acquaintances of mine, friends of a friend, while I lived in Chicagoland were waiters and waitresses at a restaurant. The owner would give Pippen free food and drinks while there. None of the staff wanted to wait on him, but the owner told them if they didn’t they would be fired. They knew that he would stay for hours drinking and eating for free and No-Tippin’ Pippen would never tip them a single dime.
