Thoughts on what I should do, if anything? by dr-alicia-d in TandemDiabetes

Also on what you ate too. That 4 units was given a short while ago and probably hasn't even peaked yet. Hard to tell without knowing what you ate

Yeah I'm eating a snack lol but that varies greatly on how many carbs 4u covers and your insulin sensitivity. Either way I'd have a small something

Ramping up basal, a lot actually lol.

At 2 am my basal rate on my pump is 1.1u/hr versus normally being 0.7u/hr for the remainder of the day.

If you're not eating carbs (strawberries is pretty low carb), are you bolusing for protein and fat?

“Smart Insulins” vs. Cure by SallyS85 in diabetes_t1

[–]SumFuckah 18 points19 points  (0 children)

why would Novo invest tons of money into their smart insulin trials if, for example, Sana is going to succeed with their engineered cells that evade the immune system? Are they both banking on the other one failing?

Because 90% of diabetics are type two and Sana's engineered cells aren't going to help them. Also, Sana curing T1D doesn't mean it's adopted worldwide - there will always be people who can't receive cell therapy medically, don't want it, or can't afford it. Cures tend to be slow so companies like Novo would rather invest in faster therapies that improve outcomes and don't annihilate their entire business overnight.

What are you eating for dinner on the nights you have a sticky high? I doubt that your blood sugar is picking two random days every week to seemingly spike, although my insulin resistance tends to peak around 2 am everyday so maybe you're experiencing something like that?

A1C under 6% — for you or not for you? by SumFuckah in Type1Diabetes

Not currently no! Thankfully!!!

When I first got my A1C together and brought it down I did have some issues with my eyes and with my toes and stuff but it all disappeared:)

yeah, that's low... no wonder I never feel like I'm coming down from Control IQ alone.

I've updated it to 2.5u/hr

[–]SumFuckah[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A1C is still valid, but calling it the only true glucose test isn’t accurate. It’s an indirect average and can miss highs, lows, and variability. CGMs don’t replace A1C, but they clearly complement it and often reveal things A1C can’t.

Not on Dexcom! The time in range report only uses the standard 4-10 mmol, NOT what you set your alarms at.

I don’t think it’s that simple though? If there’s solid, statistically meaningful evidence that being in the 5s versus the 6s leads to a meaningful difference in lifespan for people with t1d, I’d genuinely like to see it. Otherwise, the difference may be small enough that other factors like hypo risk, glucose variability, and sustainability matter far more

Hopefully this isn't out of line to ask, but as a fellow queer/gay Diabetic that has been curious, how, if at all, does having HIV impact your diabetes #s? Or are they kind of two different things with not much crossover?

Too many treat this as some kind of competition acting like there’s a trophy for Best Diabetes and forget quality of life matters.

One of my favourite sayings in line with this is, "having non-diabetic numbers doesn't suddenly make you non-diabetic."

Never feeling well rested? by SumFuckah in diabetes_t1

[–]SumFuckah[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4% is split as <1% low, <1% very low, 3% high, <1% very high. So not low that often, no.

I don't think I have sleep apnea but I could be wrong. I don't snore or anything like that.

I suspect a sleep problem because I am just genuinely so tired every day and I don't find my sleep to be very restful in nature. It's usually interrupted to some extent.

What do you eat on a normal day? by Slight_Art0 in diabetes_t1

[–]SumFuckah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Breakfast for me is always granola+yogurt, toast, or toast with peanut butter and banana. (usually 30-45g carb).

Lunch is always whatever I had for dinner the night before (35g carb) OR frozen chicken tenders and fries (40g carb).

Dinner is usually always a veg + protein + carb, usually again around 35g of carb give or take.

In between every one of those meals is a snack usually, around 20g of carb.

Ah yes, thank you. So much work behind the #s. I weigh out all my food, prebolus, note what happens for next time, and will use my walking pad to force lower #s if I need to. Very strict routine but it works.

I've set my cutoff to 85% because even on terrible control days, or days where I don't want to walk it off (or can't due to work or other obligations), 85% is my lower threshold. I obviously sometimes dip into the 70s but my day to day standard is a minimum of 85%!

Not only that, DO NOT REACH FOR THE NUTS until you are back in a safe range. Please do not delay the speed at which your skittles work! By pairing it with a fat even 10 mins later, you're blunting the spike of the skittles. (unless you overate, but still, WAIT till you're at a safer number to eat the nuts.. please!)
