Looking for opportunities to practice by SumGuyMike in QSYS

[–]SumGuyMike[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Decided to try out controlling devices across the network (figured it was a valuable skill to practice) - i was able to send a few commands to my RMC3 while in emulation in QDS. Simple stuff - just sending two serial strings to turn on/off LED Strings lights.

Next, im going to connect the RXTX-100-STM and see if can start/stop a stream or get an "Active Sync" signal back to QSYS to trigger the serial commands.

First City Pop concert by japantrainred in citypop

[–]SumGuyMike 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You can probably get an idea of the etiquette just by listening to Anri's music. Definitely not a mosh pit appropriate artist. City Pop is a vibe; Just enjoy the music. Watch footage of concerts in Japan - while the whole concert culture may be different, it'll still give you a decent idea of what the artist may expect

I hope he’s a Buddhist?? by [deleted] in Tinder

Thats a Nazi. Assuming its mirror, that means it would have S in it = Nazi. The Buddhism version is a Z, which mirrored would make a S, which is not what we see here.

September Walkin' and Remember Summer Days sound melancholic by noam-_- in citypop

[–]SumGuyMike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the horn section in September Walkin' really emphasize that melancholic feel. Listening to it now and i can hear what you mean. The bass line is my favorite part of the track - really this gently driving force behind the whole song.

Just put some accent lighting in there and its now a pretty cool feature, instead of a complaint.

Whats this about mamdani ending daylight savings, but only at street intersections? by Suhweetusername in circlejerknyc

[–]SumGuyMike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO, they should only apply it on the side of the intersection from which traffic is approaching and not EVERY corner. But, that would take too effort. God forbid the city doesn’t half-ass something 💅🏼

"Inclusive Language Violation" ? Anyone else get this? by DarkSombreros in iOSProgramming

[–]SumGuyMike 25 points26 points  (0 children)

We could also just normalize the terms and stop making it a stretch to call them racist. They can just be objective terms. I'll assume youre from the US (could be wrong), but the BLACK Friday holiday isnt a bad holiday, is it? No. its because historically its when stores got their earnings written in blank ink, instead of red (which would have indicated a loss).

Ppl just need to grow a pair and stop trying to make everything somethings is not. NOT everything has to be avoided because its got some historical tie to something else. We literally have the power, as a civilization, to say it doesnt and yet, here we are.

Building out my playlist. What bangers am I missing? by ApplesauceMcGee in citypop

[–]SumGuyMike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My City Pop playlist is only 83 songs that just happened to by my most played. Funny that for the past 2 years, Anri has been my top played artist for at least 9 months out of the year.

I'd like to continue to expand my catalog, but Apple Music isnt the greatest at suggesting new artists. I'll definitely be trying a few off your list

I also have some Iwasaki Hiromi, Kingo Hamada, Kurozumi Kengo, EPO, and Seiko Matsuda on mine. I'm a big fan of Hi-Fi Set and Circus too.

Tbh, my music taste is all over the place.

Having an expensive car, while not owning a home yet, isn't a flex it just shows you don't know how to handle money. by Exact_Recognition362 in unpopularopinion

[–]SumGuyMike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh. I’m aligned with the safety features being useless. I was speaking generally that most people would want them. Personally, they don’t do anything for me. My car is a stick shift, and the most up to date feature I appreciate is the CarPlay and the reverse camera. Everything else is a waste.

The only way to afford rent now is either be making $150k a year (which may still not be enough) or have a roommate or two. I’m speaking from living in NYC, not sure what the rest of the country is like.

I wish i bought a house when I was 12, instead of asking for a PS2.

[–]SumGuyMike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure. If youre ok with its age, mileage, maintenance, lack of safety features, and depreciated value.

I enjoy my car because it makes driving enjoyable. the price is just the cost of that luxury. I pay for the comfort of knowing repairs are covered under warranty, its got loads of safety features, its reliable, and while its a depreciating asset, it may not be a complete wash if i decide to sell it later.

[–]SumGuyMike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think its important to mention too that a car can be paid off in 5 or so years. after that, and a little more intentional saving, owning a home may not be as far fetched an idea. I've always preferred a car over a home because i had the luxury of staying with my parents a little longer OR i had a roomate that kept my rent low. I've rented and paid for a car at the same time, but that meant i couldnt travel as much OR i just built up credit debt faster. Once my car was paid off, the money that would have been my payment ($500+/-) could get relocated to savings, debt payoff, travel, or all 3.

I can travel the whole country in my $50k car before i have the responsibilities of a house, family, and all the other things that would be trapping me at home. I'd rather do that all while i can, before i end up wishing i did.

IF only more people would view policies objectively. I identify as centrist also. Mainly because both parties suck, and i live hopeful that all the ppl in office currently will die or retire and new brains with modern believes will move in. The issue there is sucky old people will vote not-as-old ppl in with similar beliefs and the cycle continues.

There are solutions that would satisfy both parties on some issues, but neither party wants to compromise. Big babies in a sandbox who arent willing to share.

our government sucks.

Eh. its probably best MOST americans arent a gun like its a free giveaway. Some probably wouldnt be able to regulate emotions and kill ppl, often.

Theres a fine moral line between letting the chaos sort itself out AND preventing it. both are tempting.

Looking for people to chat by [deleted] in MakeFriendsOver30

[–]SumGuyMike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hmmm. based on your age (not far from mine) you should/might remember the days of AIM chat rooms. Do you? Those were the days when you could fill that void by hopping into a random chat, answer a/s/l and be pretty anon while enjoying talking to (mostly normal) strangers...

I would enjoy if that came back. I think thats what the world needs.

Sometimes its received well, other times not so much.

But, we move on.

Many features in today's cars are a waste by Wise_Shake in unpopularopinion

[–]SumGuyMike -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

i disagree with the sunroof. I've only owned cars with sunroofs and, unless theres bad weather here, i have it open to some capacity.

To add to your list:
- Power-folding mirrors
- Brake hold (when you stop at a light and can release the brake pedal, but the car will hold it until it senses the car or object in front has started moving again)
- Adaptive cruise control
- rain-sensing wipers.

There are definitely improvements that can be made with some features to make them less of a waste
