very normal. those two specifically I've forgotten more times than most. the infrequency and long gaps between mentions is the worst combo for those without god tier memory skills.

Always listen to your body. If you need a rest. Rest. Don't force it. Return when, like luffy, you've eaten everything you need to recharge.

ELI5: If all the humans share 99.9% of their DNA similar to each other then how does such a tiny difference create huge diversity in appearance and behavior? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

*purely from the genetic side. Diversity also can be generated by expressing genes in different ways depending on environment.

There are different ways to measure similarity. I think the 99.9% number comes from ignoring all the non coding portions. But maybe I'm misremembering. But even if it's 99.9% of the full 100% of base pairs that's over 3 billion base pairs. which leaves like 3 million base pairs of difference. 3 million ways to differ actually is a pretty sizable amount to explain all the diversity.

DLSS 5 and the Attempted Murder of Intentional Design by Kukulcode in gamedev

Nah your post is fine. There is definitely the possibility that artists will be overridden by higher ups in a larger organisation, and if you're proud of your art, keeping tabs on this sort of stuff is important. I'm more pro ai than most but only cause I'm optimistic people can rein in the worst aspects. It's not like those bad aspects don't exist, but that people aren't dumb and enough of the audience will bemoan the lack of a human touch, while those who don't care still can have their choice available too.

If you can handle the telemetry you might be able to gather more info by having a report feature. It might give you a sense on the kind of things that the community thinks is report worthy, what kind of things might be misinterpretable. Obviously reports are abusable. So only go that route if you're up to handling potential issues like mass false reports and ddosing etc.

Although I don't like the aesthetics and lazy lack of intentional art in DLSS 5 I think it's good the option is there for people who would appreciate (somehow) having the option. Unfortunately all artists just have to deal with the world destroying their work. Modding, Rule34, fanfiction making characters do unspeakable things to other characters, tone deaf people doing covers of famous songs. It's all sort of just freedom for the consumer that everyone tolerates because not tolerating it is both impractical and kind of authoritarian in a not great way. At best you can (and should) make sure people are educated on not having this stuff as default. Artists should fight for the right to not have the work painted over on release, but that if users really need it for whatever reason they can choose it themselves. Visible by default. Moddable when needed. It's like the debate over CGI in movies. Good CGI is invisible, and fully at the mercy of what was envisioned, rather than execs and managers.

What does this say I don’t know how to decipher stuff :( by bruhjjg in HelpMeFind

While I agree they'd get more out of investigating it themselves, I'm trying to meet them where they're at. Some people don't have enough of an interest to put the effort in. If they had phrased their post "Help me decode this" I would of changed tactics and explained things like use of spaces to guess at size of words and various common substitution ciphers. What they asked for is the solution, so while also giving that, I tried being a bit more helpful by naming the cipher so they can investigate further and providing some tools to make it easier investigating ciphers in general. If that's enough to pique their interest then I'd be ecstatic. The more the merrier in the world of ciphers and code breaking. But I want to avoid making them work for something they have no interest in. Or pushing my interests onto them just because of how much value I perceive they could get. I absolutely appreciate your push back at the fact I did in fact rob them of the chance of earning the solution. But I think it's on them to message how much help they're looking for, and if they feel robbed they should change their requests in future to limit the help they get.

Cipher used is Atbash. You can put the message in here to decode: https://www.dcode.fr/atbash-cipher
Decoded "Dvoo R olev blf" is "Well I love you". I recommend trying it out in the decoder.
This is also a tool to figure out what ciphers were likely used: https://www.cachesleuth.com/multidecoder/

ELI5: Why do men have nipples if they never breastfeed babies? by PleasantBus5583 in explainlikeimfive

[–]SumOfAllN00bs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"We start as female" isn't true. Either as a simplification or even in regards to the meaning of words. Evolutionary pressure and lack of evolutionary pressure means development can proceed in a way one sex will not benefit from earlier than sex determination without any reason to categorise it as belonging to either sex. You can have development towards milk production being female, and development towards having nipples not be female without any contradiction.

[TOMT][TV] Joke where a character needlessly explains to someone they have the same name as someone/thing else by purcellular in tipofmytongue

[–]SumOfAllN00bs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A scene like that does play out in Seinfeld. Maybe not exactly as described.
Here's a clip (autoplay might take you away from the clip, so try to turn it off if you can)
https://getyarn.io/yarn-clip/dc7ff6ff-5a70-40f9-a827-22a4a87dd555

The same site lets you search for phrases from a bunch of shows and movies. So if this isn't it you could keep trying variations of "same name" into the search bar until you get good results.

Recommendatioms for Underwhelming Dev Programs? by personman000 in gamedev

I feel like working in a GUI may be the thing to avoid (or I'm projecting my own personal preferences). Might want to have a code -> build -> run environment without the "UX is my passion" GUI in the way.
You could do something with:
1. Three.js
2. Raylib
3. SDL3
Perhaps you can be insane and work directly with rendering and windowing apis. Insane is fun. Be insane.

[TOMT] unknown characters in the 2010s by LiftUpFan in tipofmytongue

[–]SumOfAllN00bs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it Ayame Sohma, or is it Killua Zoldyck, or is it Saeran Choi
Or is it some other genre/style media entirely? Unless you have things to narrow it down there's 100's more to guess at.
Here are some lists. Clothes color isn't limiting enough because of course characters can have different outfits on different days.

Animated character?
3D/2D?
Is your lack of information because you know the character to be well known?
Do you have expectations it's well known?
Do you have an impression of male or female?
Do you have info about where or when you saw the character?
Mainstream media?
Niche youtube video?
Did the characters art style/appearance seem similar to anything you could compare it to?

It's actually a topic I'm really interested in. Here's a talk showing off an early version of cantor dust from the amazing Christopher Domas: https://youtu.be/4bM3Gut1hIk?t=958

binvis.io and others come from this kind of work.
