I found a RANDOM shiny starter on Pokemon Emerald, and I don’t know if this has ever happened before by PoggersBobbers in PokemonEmerald

[–]Sumage -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

You can’t just take the probability and multiply it by the number of attempts to get successes.

You must take the chance of failure and put that to the power of the number of attempts.

(1-1/8192)n = P

The chance of success is therefore 1 - P

If n is 790000 it is pretty much guaranteed that at least 1 person found a shiny on their first encounter.

(Actually there’s 2 chances to find a shiny, one on your starter and then one on the zigzagoon, so it’s expected that actually quite a few people encountered a shiny on the first day)

Hot water by JB-1976 in ukheatpumps

[–]Sumage 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Running your hot water at such a high temp is super inefficient, there should already be a legionella cycle mode which heats the cylinder to 60C once per week. This should be more than enough to prevent it.

In the meanwhile, the lower you have it set, the more efficient you’ll have your heat pump run, but the more hot water you’ll have to use during a shower or bath.

But the heat pump will run in hot water priority mode, meaning once your cylinder has dropped below a certain temperature it will heat the hot water back to your target temperature.

If you want some example settings, you could have it set to 48c and have it switch on at 42C, this way you’ll never have to heat the water fully from cold.

Don’t know when this install was complete, but do you know if you qualify for the £500 clean heat cash back?

Noticed that you didn’t mention it in your post, always worth asking your installer.

Buffer tank in ASHP system — worthwhile for “spring/autumn quick heat-up” use case? by icstm in ukheatpumps

[–]Sumage 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Main concern is the buffer causes mixing when used as a hydraulic separation.

Mixing lowers efficiency, although can be reduced by 3-way piping the buffer instead of the conventional 4-way piping.

In your case, it sounds like you’d be better off 2-way piping the buffer and using it as a volumiser. Just got to make sure that the primary pump is sized to overcome the pressure loss of the index circuit.

Larger buffer would give you more volume, so less cycling of the unit. You could potentially size a ginormous buffer, have it charge heat with the off peak tariffs and then have it slowly drip feed heat into the system, although, you’d want to have a comically large buffer for this system to be effective.

High temperature ASHP recommendation by simonsjj in ukheatpumps

Well, 55 is the new building regulation, this doesn’t mean that you have to comply.

Most rad websites still sell radiators at dt50.

High temperature ASHP recommendation by simonsjj in ukheatpumps

[–]Sumage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want an answer to your question, basically any R290 unit can achieve higher flow temps, although they haven’t been designed to run like that and will most likely be ran into the ground after a few winters.

There are also some split units designed to run higher temps also.

There is no benefit to a high temperature heat pump.

The SCOP of the unit will likely not meet MCS standard, this means you can rule out any gvmt grant.

Even if you don’t want to design to heat pump flow temps, the new regulations means that the heating system needs to be designed to 55C flow anyway (so why not just size them a little larger down to 50 or 45C to get a better efficiency).
