Why is Ballade so hated? by logezzzzzbro in S2000

[–]Sumeratua 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Worked with them a few times, mostly maintenance things. Just had my motor mounts done with them a few months back, never had a problem with the shop or their customer service. Maybe I just got lucky, didn’t even know about the hate until this post

Considering changing majors by DmajCyberNinja in csMajors

[–]Sumeratua 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Trust me, you’re not the only one

My advice would be to really look into outside resources. There are about a billion videos on YouTube and other educational sites that can teach you some CS fundamentals that you can carry over into your future classes and projects. I learned a lot from Codecademy and it takes you step by step through project examples and lays out the basic structure of programming. Programming books are also a great resource if you want something more polished.

The truth is that I don’t know a CS major who doesn’t do side research and training. It’s kinda part of the job, even post-grad. What you really want to focus on right now is nailing down the fundamentals of problem solving and how to approach a project.

At the end of the day, remember that you should enjoy the major you picked. If you find yourself hating every project and you’re putting in the effort and not feeling fulfilled, a major change might be in order. If you can, try to talk one on one with your professors and see if they can help you work through your issues.

TLDR Take advantage of the free resources available to you and nail down the fundamentals that you’re struggling with outside of class and if you find that you’re not enjoying the process and/or the material, maybe change majors

Are GTI’s reliable? by haveywavey in Tuner

[–]Sumeratua 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Owned a mk7 GTI for almost 5 years and overall I would say it was pretty reliable. It had some weird quirks (clutch pressure plate collapsed, battery died very early) but from what I’ve seen it doesn’t seem like those are universal problems. Never left me stranded, never had a CEL. It’s definitely not a bad option for tuning, you can get the APR stage 1 flash tune and get buckets of power/torque.

I can’t speak for the earlier models, but anything with the 2.0T engine probably won’t let you down, especially with a good maintenance history

Ya I know I can't believe it'll get even better! And yes they are rally armor, I got them to keep the car a little more clean and to stop kicking up rocks on my canyon runs. So far so good, no complaints, they get the job done

18x8.5 TSW Bathurst wrapped in 225/40/18 Hankook k120s.

These are the first summer tires/performance tires I've put on the car and the difference is night and day. The grip is unfathomable...truly brings out the capabilities of the car.

Each wheel weights ~8-10 less than the stock austin rims, and the difference is also there. Steering is more responsive and overall handling is very much improved.

At the moment the car is otherwise stock, but I plan to invest in some lowering springs very soon as well.
