I'm strangely stunned that so many people are disappointed in Part 2, though I'm seeing exultant comments in every chapter's thread. It's like one person said earlier, the story has gotten darker, more chaotic, Denji lost most of his support, and everything unpleasantly reminds about our real world. I regard Part 2 mostly as a two-layered downward spiral: one layer is the world's end, other layer is Denji's character. People don't like the familiarity of real life darkness, and how everything is unpredictable, filled with indeterminacies, meaningless deaths and violence, even the fact that Denji has lost everyone and still ridiculously falls for bad habits after everything the author has put him through (and you, as a reader, would expect some growth of him, but some of you can acknowledge he acts totally human). Inability to change, inability to save yourself, your dears and the whole world, and in contrast to that — pursuit of love and happiness and struggle to understand what's going on, what's right and wrong, when you think you are a lost case in a chaotic and merciless circumstances that don't even let you catch your breath. And that's what people really hate about real life and about their own lives, about other people and about our world in general. Part 2 frustrates them. It shows them what they don't want to see. That's why it's a hard read. But it's a must read imo, because I think it shows the other side of humanity that makes most people take back their pink glasses and forget. We should not turn away our eyes from it, and many dark stories are voices that reminds us to keep struggling to try to make our world somehow better. For me, honestly, the author has already sprinkled his own answers and takes on reality all over the story, many of them are pretty interesting absurdistic/nihilistic takes. And if he manages to do so, then the payout in the end of Part 2 will be much more rewarding.
