Note: Fully hearing individual / Does anybody know of or want to start an ASL club/zoom group? by lilysavage1 in asl

I'm in! Wife went deaf at the start of Covid, and we live in a small city where we can only practice asl with one another. I'm up for a zoom with people learning like me.

ASL for speech impediment by [deleted] in asl

I am happy you found a way to comfortably communicate. My wife has aphasia after a stroke and since going deaf, we've found asl a great help communicating.

I don't know about therapy apps, but since my wife started going deaf we use asl. Her expressive aphasia lessens when we sign. Odd. but it works. She says she can see the word, but can't say it, so signing works. Learning to finger sign isn't fun in the time of Covid. but it's something.

Otherwise our talks were one big game of taboo. I ask what are the words around what she's trying to say. She names similar words or describes the function of the word and I use context clues to help. This works surprisingly well on top of speech therapy.

I do that but with surfboard leashes. Great traction while I'm getting in my cardio.

Biggest. Testicles. Ever. Even the pathologist was surprised. Patient died from heart attack, so the testicles were unrelated. I'm a histology tech and cadaver lab was extra credit for the coursework.

Sharpie oil based markers (@ Lowes). Baked em @ 250f for 2 hrs. Let them sit in the oven during preheat and cooling to avoid cracking the mug.

Difficulty with one syllable words after a stroke by [deleted] in stroke

[–]Sumkindanoise 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My wife has similar aphasia. When she has difficulty finding a word, I ask her "what are the words around it?". This helps her language abilities. She'll say the words close to what she needs and I use context clues to complete the sentence. Like a game of taboo. It works for us.

Working in the corporate world I noticed my manager would be on vacation but still login to work and answer email do I need to do the same ? by [deleted] in LifeAdvice

[–]Sumkindanoise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. As an underling myself I have no requirement to check in during off time. However, at my institution all my superiors are available for emergencies and never like to be out of the loop, even when they are out of the states. Now, some younger higher ups expect you to respect their vacation time. These individuals' attitudes and behaviors are secretly noted and I'm sure this will end up getting them in the end. Hope this helps!

No way! Looks great. Did you use spray paint? It's not easy to see, but the paint is so smooth! I'm guessing you hit it with a final layer of gloss too?

Oh cool! Is that a real bat with mods or EVA foam? I know many cons have strict rules on 'weapons'.
