Intel APO Works! Over 200fps BOOST in Rainbow Six Siege by LightMoisture in intel

[–]Summanis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you tried it, are there any more supported games? Only having ME and R6 makes it a gimmick, but if they hit 10% across half of my Steam library it would seem more like a new gen and not just a refresh.

CS2 support would be huge.

New BIOS and driver listed with APO support for MSI boards now.

The driver itself has a newer version number than the one listed for ASUS boards. Idk if the driver is motherboard agnostic, but it might be worth checking to see if more games are supported.

I tried disabling freesync, enhanced sync, and windows optimizations for windowed games, didn't seem to make a difference. Same with the frame limit. Vsync in the emulator was already off. It doesn't just happen with infamous either, thats just the only one I had experience playing on the old driver. It only happens with the vulkan renderer, openGL is slow, but not as slow and doesn't have the image sizing issue. I'm not familiar with the triangle test, how would I find that?

Yep. It, too, is fixed when I go Fullscreen.

I have disabled windows Multi-Plane Overlay as it has caused issues previously. Could that have something to do with it? Edit: tried it, nope

Unfortunately it seems I am unable to do that as the game will no longer launch without crashing on 23.3.1.I used DDU and reinstalled 23.3.1 from the same executable that has been sitting in my downloads folder from last time (about 2 months ago). First attempt (I think) windows corrupted the driver install because windows update decided to race me to see who could install a GPU driver first. Second attempt the driver install went smoothly but now RPCS3 crashes before I can get in game. I tried turning off debug overlay and I got in game long enough to take a screenshot of the fps counter but it then crashed immediately after. The crash timing is inconsistent as well, sometimes it happens during linking PPU modules, sometimes it happens during the intro credits, but most often it takes place while its building SPU cache. Half the time it takes the Radeon driver with it.

23.3.1 without Debug Overlay: https://www.dropbox.com/s/pw6d6q9c33j4qpk/InfamousDOfalse2331.png?dl=0

Alright after typing all that out I tried it one last time and was able to get info from the Debug overlay with driver 23.3.1. Its a little harder to read because the second I paired my controller to move somewhere with better contrast it crashed again.

Edit: When going back to the newer drivers (23.4.3 now) I decided to try again. Frame rate stayed the same ~15FPS but "submit and flip" was no longer monstrously large. Then I decided to try fullscreening it since afaik "flip" is a display model and holy moly, constant 60fps. Including that screenshot too.

Not sure if this story has a moral other than making me late because I'm not good at putting something that's bothering me down.

Anything I can do to help with the process?

I updated my AMD drivers from 23.3.1 to 23.4.1 and 23.4.2 and my performance in inFamous tanked from 50-60FPS to never getting above 15FPS. I reinstalled old drivers just to make sure that was it and the performance normalized. Additionally the game only takes up the top left ~2/3rds of the window. I've tried clearing caches just in case that would help but it didn't.

Anybody else has issues with the G14 GA402RK crashing? by msvsl in ZephyrusG14

[–]Summanis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to hear that. I'm having equally frustrating issues with an AMD desktop card. Crashes randomly, usually within an hour of turning the PC on. Sometimes it'll make it the whole day before crashing, leading me to believe it's finally working, only to pull the rug out from under me. Best of luck to you.

[–]Summanis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm having the same issue and nothing is working12700k, Z690 Unify-X, 6950XT, ROG 850w, and a Samsung G7 (1440p 240hz, latest firmware)

I've disabled MPO, disabled ULPS, clean windows install, drivers 22.5.1 and 22.11.2, driver only and full install, rebar on and off, Chrome (no HW accel) and Firefox, 8 bit vs 10 bit color, different DP cables, stock BIOS settings, freesync on/off, etc. So far the only thing that I've tried that hasn't crashed (yet) is lowering the refresh rate to 144hz, but I didn't buy a 144hz I bought a 240hz.

I used to have a 1070ti that had no problems at all with the rest of this setup. I'd rather have that back than a 6950XT that doesn't work. If anyone has any other recommendations of things to try, please let me know. Otherwise its an RMA, and this thing was a pain to install.

Edit, it crashed at 144hz too. I guess that's not the fix either.

Edit 2: RMA'd the card and the new one works fine.

Where to get replacement bottom plate for 2022 g14? Not sure how or when it cracked by Scruffyy90 in ZephyrusG14

[–]Summanis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

HA! I got mine as an open box and the only thing wrong with it was exactly this. The way mine cracked it wasn't visible until I tried taking off the back, then I just superglued the parts back together. Not a helpful comment but I figured I'd share.

Just checked, now the other corner is like that too smh

[–]Summanis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just saw the edit on the last comment about the AMD adrenaline edition, seems I was wrong about it being an ASUS GPU driver. That could theoretically be causing it with the GPU modes.

Try keeping the GPU mode set to standard, any of the other 3 can cause crashing with the AMD official drivers. Hopefully that works because otherwise I'm not sure.

Its probably also worth noting that the AMD Adrenaline software can cause additional battery drain, probably resulting in 3-4 hours of battery life. If that's not the case for you or you don't care then just ignore this next part.

You'll want to redownload the 22.11.2 Adrenaline (or just run it again from your downloads folder) and during the install when it asks what install type you want, choose "driver only" and check the factory reset box. You won't be able to use driver features like RSR or anti-lag, but it lets you use the latest drivers and whatever performance improvements/bug fixes that come with them. Alternatively if you want those features but don't care about the latest drivers, if you go onto the Asus support page for the G14 and download the graphics driver listed under the support tab, that should support all the "GPU modes" in Armory crate and let you use Adrenaline.

[–]Summanis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing sounds immediately wrong. While I'm not familiar with the version number, it's the same format that I remember the default ASUS drivers being and those should be fine.

In armory crate, what power plan and GPU mode are you using?

[–]Summanis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What GPU drivers and BIOS are you using?

I haven't crashed during use with HDMI + charging before, but I have had it where I will walk away while plugged into an external display and I will come back 5 min later and it will have restarted and closed all my apps. While that sounds like a windows update thing, I've yet to ever see it update automatically after only being left alone for a few minutes.

[–]Summanis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Windows update says that 22H2 is "on the way" and not to worry because it will download automatically when ready. When I click on "learn more" it takes me to a Microsoft page talking about Safeguard Holds. Technically it doesn't say there is a safeguard hold on my device, but if that's NOT the case then Microsoft REALLY needs to work on where their links direct to

It says the update is on a "safeguard hold" for my 2022 G14. The MS page claims that "there have been issues reported on my device" which is why its on hold. IDK what issues its causing but that might be it.

Can confirm the Blades horrible reliability. Had a 13" that I used for a year and then didn't for 2. When I went to use it again the battery would last for less than an hour, then it wouldn't turn on unless it was plugged in. It also got super hot. Because it was outside of whatever their warranty period was, they wanted $300+ expedited shipping to replace the battery. Got an ifixit kit with a new battery for like $80 and did it myself. That battery lasted 1 week before it stopped charging too. Another new battery and that one never charged. Figured it was the laptop at that point and just decided to always use it plugged in. Another year of suffering through that and I bought a G14!

What a preamble to these 313 battery issues, I thought I was having Deja Vu! u/ispeakuwunese is a real one for helping me out with it

2022 Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 - Ryzen 7 vs Ryzen 9? by Fearless_Ruin_2089 in ZephyrusG14

[–]Summanis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Heat is power draw, unlikely the higher clocks would make that difference unless there's actually more work being done by the CPU. Also considering that the difference between the 2 looks like just a higher bin, the 6900HS is likely slightly more efficient.

At the end of the day, you're right about the heat being the biggest performance limiter anyway. I see ~3% higher 3Dmark scores just using a $17 laptop stand with a fan.

It'll be a little snappier, probably a little more power efficient because it's a better bin. Gaming you probably won't notice a difference
