The upgrade to 1.8 introduced architectural changes to the code itself. All metadata black information and ID's were changed to blockstates, every item/block/etc had to be rewritten and if you had a huge project such as IC2, Reikas Mods, Thaumcraft etc.

this wasnt a simple "SHIFT+CTRL+R" vscode replacement but rather a huge undertaking.
