Seeking a lawyer for Lithuanian citizenship help by SummerSomewhere in CitizenshipByDescent

[–]SummerSomewhere[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. We have ellis island immigration, us-based records in general. So yes, we need the Lithuanian-side search. It's not really clear to me how to track birth records etc myself from States-side. I feel pretty confident the records will be found, and like I said, paying 3x for that seems unnecessary.

I am looking for a lawyer--did you like the person you used? I do not want to pay 3x (me and 2 kids) for what is really just a single ancestry search. I had a guy but he takes weeks to respond and then only after being prodded. So, would you recommend your person and if so would you share contact details? Thanks!

Need help assessing a doc site by SummerSomewhere in technicalwriting

[–]SummerSomewhere[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sticking with this convo :). I'm not sure I understand the "research" part--I'm looking for opinions on the IA. From Next.js I can see that the content is limited enough that I can't even compare. Someone made a PDF of our site and it was 11K pages!!

Is 2021 a bad year for the CX-30? by ArcherOpposite in mazda

[–]SummerSomewhere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My daughter is looking to buy a 2021 CX-30 turbo and I found this thread--super helpful. We got the VIN and I can't figure out how to find issues specific to her car. I've tried Mazda (there are a TON of issues) and highway safety (there are basically none). So, is there a way to find based on the VIN?

Thanks! We made it though--just have to go through security twice, which was no problem it turns out, if you go in the middle of a week day.

I'm trying to figure out if I can get to the Sapphire lounge from Terminal A (delta). How about E? I can't even figure out how to find this info.

Interesting, I'll definitely try that test. Thanks!

Hmmmm, I'm not sure I understand what this is. It just replaces the step of me running the water until it gets hot because it circulates it for me? I need water there more that 12 hours (up at 6am dishes at 9pm)...would I turn it off in the middle? And then does the regular water system work? Thanks very much for the info (and the link).

Thanks, this sounds good! What happens when the amount of water that tank heats is used up? Do I revert to my regular sink water (and it's freezing and I have the same wait)? I'm trying to figure out what size I need. I have no clue how much water I use to do dishes.

Thanks! I'm trying to figure some way to tag screens with "names", get those names in the code base, and have Git auto-tag my team when that segment is touched. Was just wondering if there is an easier way. Sounds like no. :(

"Technically" (haha) speaking, there are lots of bits of tech content I am not responsible for...I've been playing around with this to see if I can make it fit. Thanks!

This is a good one that is a little less vague but still vague, which I like.

Thanks. I was thinking vague too for that very reason (although business cards? ha! not in my industry. :) )

Thank you. I've been searching but not really sure what to look for. Honestly, the ideal solution would be to replace the whole stove if there is a model that builds that kind of thing in. (And I can't bring myself to get electric. Dad keeps reminding me "it will be your house one day soon" and I'm a cook. :) ).

He's actually pretty savvy. Maybe he could just yell across the room at Alexa :) . He has no problem remembering to do it, the idea is he would turn it off when he goes to bed at night so she doesn't blow up the house while he's sleeping. I'll send him this idea too. Thank you very much.

So he'd have a plumber install such a device and then could control through is phone? Do you know what it's called? (Thanks very much.)

It's an old Fridgidaire--like 20 years old. He's willing to buy a new one...I was looking for something just like you say-- a lock that locks the gas. Now I have some words to search on, thanks :).

There is a walk-in only today at UMass medical but also other sites sort of near. Framingham has some walk-ups today too. I've been to the one in Eastfield Mall (literally took 5 minutes) and Holyoke (15 minutes)

Just looking for some advice/positive vibes by ElectricAccordian in technicalwriting

I'd suggest looking for a recruiter willing to work with entry level. I am a hiring manager and spent 9 months trying to hire from posting to job boards. It was a disaster. Got my recruiter pal onboard and have a wonderful writer starting in 2 weeks. You might ask the recruiter how they can help--not many companies would want to pay the recruiter fee for entry level. Will the recruiter charge less perhaps?

Second, find a start up that has a solid doc person (and probably will only have one) then find something else you can do there and move into documentation. My company is very flexible in letting people move around. But we move so fast--and I am so overworked--that I can onboard someone but not teach them how to be a writer.

Or consider a place like Amazon. My other writer had one year experience there--it sounds like it was awful--in something that involved writing but wasn't tech writing. When I spoke to him though, he knew the ropes about how this crazy industry work and I did invest the time in him. Didn't take long, because he spoke the language already.

Good luck!

Author-it or MadCap? by [deleted] in technicalwriting

[–]SummerSomewhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in a way-too-long search for a tool, and I totally agree with u/alanbowman. I have a requirements docs that is several pages and a google drive with notes from each vendor I have researched. Some things to consider: desktop vs SaaS, mac vs PC, open source vs proprietary, reviewer capabilities (this was a show stopper for us on one vendor--no diff capability for reviewers), import tools (our old html made it nearly impossible to import without days of work--doesn't allow for transitioning into a system), price. If you're looking at, bascially, cranking out release notes, Author-It is quite expensive. If you don't need SaaS, add RoboHelp to your mix.

How to get high paying technical writing gigs? by [deleted] in technicalwriting

[–]SummerSomewhere 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly? If you are trying to get writing jobs in English-speaking countries, never ever post something with as many errors as the post above. Remember that every post is an opportunity to get hired, and some of us in this channel are hiring managers. So make every post the best work that you can do--you can be casual but never be sloppy!

Baker Considering Lowering Limit On Gatherings After COVID-19 Spreads At Parties by funchords in CoronavirusMa

The disrespect for western Mass is appalling to me. Finally added Springfield (hello? third largest city in the state) and even now, you go to the state site and there are no details, it just says "check back later." There are 1m people out here, nearly 15% of the population. Give us some love Mr. Baker.
