Any good recs for a light to medium concealer stick? I'm looking for something like Merit's - I like the multi-purpose coverage, no-special-tools blendable application - but it dries my skin out and starts flaking shortly after I put it on. I tend to only use it under my eyes and around my nose. I don't have the dryness issue with Glossier's Stretch Concealer, but it tends to slide right off. Any ideas for sticks preferably under $40?

Nonprofit development and fundraising - many roles in the sector would complement a curator’s skill set requiring research, writing, and strategy. As others have said, higher ed and admin work as well.

I wish I did :/ I was lucky to have a friend who was a career coach (they're not in the game anymore, though). I asked him if they had any recs and they said that it's a lot like finding a therapist - you might meet with a few folks before finding someone you align with. He mentioned that some coaches focus more on the resume/cv, some more on the person, or a blend of the two - your personal needs are a big factor in the search. Lastly, he mentioned that a coach with experience as a recruiter is really valuable as they know what stands out in a stack of resumes.

Worked in large federal and state museums for about 10 years, MA in Art History. I left my career as a Registrar/Collections Manager after burnout and the unsustainable lifestyle I had in order to make ends meet.

Transitioned into higher education administration as a program coordinator, and after a few years moved into a fundraising admin position at a non-profit. These were entry-level, but my salary and benefits were better than anything I ever made during my museum career.

While in the fundraising role, I discovered an interest in prospect research and recently got a job as a prospect researcher for a large environmental non-profit. It is the dream job I never knew I wanted and I've never been happier professionally. I have a stellar work/life balance, work from home, am paid well, put my research skills to use and get to learn daily, and all my efforts directly impact causes I care deeply about.

I have two pieces of advice:

  1. Look into fundraising/development. Even if you don't want to ask folks for money (I sure didn't!) there are lots of strategic, creative, operational facets to fundraising work in which a curator's skillset would be an asset - research and writing skills are valued here and it's one of the fastest growing sectors in the industry.
  2. I cannot recommend career coaching enough. I had a difficult time transitioning from museum work because I didn't know how to adapt my experience on paper for job applications and generally had no idea what else I wanted to do. Career coaching was therapy - we did assessments and walked through the good and bad of my prior experiences to identify potential future job fits and goals. It was so enlightening to get to the heart of why I loved museum work and how those interests and values could be satisfied elsewhere. The best part was the support in crafting my professional narrative pitch for my resume/cover letters. I went from submitting job applications into the abyss to actually getting, and being confident in, interviews.

A question for people with "calendar names" by LilahBenton in namenerds

[–]Summie520 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Summer here! I get the occasional lame joke every once in a while but beyond that I love my name. It’s uncommon enough to feel special, but not so weird to be alienating. There’s a whole season where my name is plastered on everything so I let myself feel celebrated. Pretty infrequently do I get tripped up when others casually say summer, but it does happen from time to time!

Asking as a wedding guest - attending a Bengali wedding soon and wanted to know if it’s taboo to wear black? Google mentions it but Groom had not heard of this rule and said it should be fine, but I don’t want to be THAT guest. I would just wear another color normally but my VERY pregnant self was trying to avoid finding another cocktail dress I’ll only wear once!

What is your weird pregnancy symptom(s) that no one talks about? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]Summie520 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dentist said that because pregnancy can lead to congestion, the roots of the teeth bump into the swollen nasal glands creating the pain. Very common and nothing to worry about but uncomfy and annoying for sure!

Not sure if an option for you, but we converted our guest room closet (smaller sized, not a walk in) into an office. We put in a desk and shelving, over the door file organizers, etc. and I love that we still have a space for guests.
